@Starmandala And those brains are helping educate and save the lives (vaccines, mosquito netting, etc.,) of thousands of children in many places around the world. What is your *heart* doing...? :)
@leaghaire The Gates foundation earns a profit from the money Bill Gates gets a tax write-off for(he has investments in vaccine producing companies, etc.). He invests more money hurting people than he does helping anyone other than himself and his rich buddies! Read this article to see how the Gates foundation invests in some of the most polluting companies. @OntarioCrops We actually use more insecticide because of trait technology! Think about it, the EPA classifies Bt crops as "plant-pesticides", Bt crops are supposed to express Cry proteins 100% of the time, there is no farmer that applies pesticides 100% of the time. If there is no pest farmers generally don't apply insecticide, but Bt crops are still producing insecticides whether there is a pest or not!
Whats least screwed up is the health effects of GM foods. But if farming GMO crops (watch Food Inc.) is bankrupting previously well off American farmers, forcing them to foreclose and move to the city? How on earth could it alleviate poverty and starvation in africa? Go Monsanto!!! LETS GET GLOBAL!!!
@OntarioCrops You said, "Farmers want to plant GM seed because it is showing them more economic benefit." That is an artificial economic benefit thanks to government subsidies, but organic farmers generally have more economic benefit once they get through the conversion process. Organic is knowledge based farming and GM farmers don't have to know as much about farming and it's more assembly line, so they sacrifice some economic benefit for an easier farming experience.
@OntarioCrops In the U.S. GM crops do have subsidies and most organic farmers do not, yet even without the subsidies organic farmers generally make more profit(after the conversion). Peer reviewed studies from the 1970's to the present suggest we can feed the world with organic. That same U.S. corn belt isn't really used for food. Most GM corn crops are used for ethanol production, cattle feed and corn oil, corn syrup, etc.
@myndy86 Since the 1970's the worlds population has doubled. In the next 20 years we will see 2 billion more mouths to feed. Will you starve those people because of you anti human organic agenda.
Grain corn directly used for food. whether its meat or corn flakes.
How many organic farmers do you know that raised 110 bu wheat this year.
Fertilizer, Herbicides, Fungicides and Genetic Breeding have allowed us to double yields since the "green revolution".
@OntarioCrops Most varieties of Bt and HT transgenic corn is used for ethanol, NOT food. "even accounting for the energy value of the meat produced, the loss of calories that result from feeding cereals to animals instead of using cereals directly as human food represents the annual calorie need for more than 3.5 billion". srfood.org/index.php/en/component/content/article/1174-report-agroecology-and-the-right-to-food
Stop growing cattle food and you feed billions more people!
@OntarioCrops if thats the case those populations are not sustainable. we shouldn't degrade the quality of our earth and food to sustain unhealthy populations of people. but its not. and theres enough organic food to go around. its just not distributed properly. u really think our farming was unsustainable before 1994, the introduction of GMs into the food supply? if monsanto gave away its profits to help people in africa buy food, maybe they could eat? money is just as big an issue as supply.
When gates moves next to a Nuclear power station and feeds all his family 100% on GM then I might listen. Oh, by the way, there is enough food in the world to feed everyone right now, just look in the Western World at the groaning supermarket shelves and obesity problems, and, 1/3 of it is thrown away... any chance you can get the world to share it Gates?
The whole GMO debate is nothing more than conspiracy Bullshit! Africans are dieing because idiots from Greenpeace are spreading propaganda that GMO's are 'evil.' Despite the mounds of publicly verified scientific evidence that shows no ill effects.

@plzenjoymybigolpenis ive taken a look at several reseaches and i can say that to regard gmo as safe is irresponsible to say the least. But the restrictions they (seed companies) put on independant researchers says enough in terms of reliability. From a natural viewpoint and from a professional view as a dietician: humans/animals are designed to digest and break down things that nature can produce. after all we are formed in this environment as well just as...
@juirtle ....vegetable matter is, etc. so how would we respond if we eat things that nature cannot produce? short term means nothing in this scenario compared to the long term.
@juirtle I've taken a look at several research papers, and I can say that to regard gmo as less safe than "natural" is irresponsible, to say the least. From a logical viewpoint and from a professional view as a biochemist: human intelligence allows us to overcome obstacles and burdens that nature has imposed on us.
@plzenjoymybigolpenis Biochemist? LMAO! Please don't disrespect biochemists by trying to associate yourself with them. Not using the precautionary principle is irresponsible. If you were a biochemist you would already know that just using different fertilizers can alter gene expressions in the food crop and/or the animals consuming them and could cause potential harms, transgenic crops can have dozens of different protein expressions compared to their near isolines.
@myndy86 Wow, myndy! More terribly retarded crap. You should seriously kill yourself soon if you actually care about doing good in the world.
You do know that altering gene expression does not equate to a deleterious effect, right? Clearly, you don't. Better stop taking vitamin D, myndy. Also, you better stop exercising. Also, better stop having sex. Also, better stop talking to other people.
I could on, but it's clear you don't know the first thing about gene expression.
@plzenjoymybigolpenis Are you seriously that retarded that you don't understand basic English? Yes you are! I said "could cause potential harms". I clearly know more about gene expression than you ever will. The only reason you want me to kill myself is so I will stop embarrassing you in these comments. Please, get educated on the subject before you reply, all you are doing is showing "the public" how uneducated you are!
@myndy86 Sorry, myndy, more completely retarded crap. You clearly know nothing about gene expression, nothing about GMO's, nothing about organic food, nothing about science, nothing about logic, and nothing about being a halfway worthwhile human being.
You are the worst sort of human being that could possibly exist. Incredibly stupid, ignorant, dishonest, and selfish.
Again, kill yourself. The world needs to advance beyond lesser-evolved members of the human species such as yourself.
@plzenjoymybigolpenis The truth that you are projecting, I"m glad you admitted it, that's the first step towards getting help for your obvious psychological issues.
@myndy86 As is typical, here, you try to discuss things of which you are absolute clueless, uneducated, and uninformed. More importantly, you try to discuss things that you're not intelligent enough to even begin to understand. You're out of your league, here, myndy, just like in every other aspect of your life. A job at McDonald's flipping burgers would be a bit too intellectually challenging for you to handle, myndy.
myndy, myndy, myndy, you are a hilariously clueless cunt. ;)
@plzenjoymybigolpenis i see your point. but based on what? short term researches still signal the need for long term researches. some researches set up by corporate researchers, which are never too reliable, point out no harm according to THEM. But they forget to mention they dont accurately interpretate the outcomes, modify data and/or using a ridiculously low amount of subjects (n) so there is no sinificant outcome possible. That should say enough. Any independant researcher could tell you this.
Just because we are highly intelligent doesnt take away we are still built to burn the same fuel as thousands of years ago. From evolution pov we hardly change, so we require the same thing thats why you see with refined foods that sicknesses increase as consupmtion increases. The more we screw with foods the more we will see in the future that sicknesses will increase (my prediction). You can redirect a flow of water, but you cant make the water disappear, thats nature.
@juirtle Youtube doesn't allow links in the comments, so the links are missing h t t p : / / w w w . (without spaces) in front of them. You may also have to change the "dot" to a . for some of them as well. The easiest way to find the links is to put the quote from the study (without the quotation marks) in a search engine like Google and the links should come up. I will personal message you the studies I used here with the correct links when I get a chance.
@OhmgrownCron "3 GMOs new side effects linked with GM maize consumption, which were sex- and often dose-dependent. @OhmgrownCron If you dwell into how GE food regulation studies are done, you would already know that human studies are not required, and very few human studies have been done due to biotech company restrictions on research due to patents on transgenes. UN report IAASTD "The use of patents for transgenes introduces additional issues. In developing countries especially, instruments such as patents may drive up costs, restrict experimentation by the individual farmer or public researcher"
@OhmgrownCron "For a decade their user agreements have explicitly forbidden the use of the seeds for any independent research. Under the threat of litigation, scientists cannot test a seed to explore the different conditions under which it thrives or fails. They cannot compare seeds from one company against those from another company. And perhaps most important, they cannot examine whether the genetically modified crops lead to unintended environmental side effects."
@OhmgrownCron "Scientists must ask corporations for permission before publishing independent research on genetically modified crops.""Unfortunately, it is impossible to verify that genetically modified crops perform as advertised. That is because agritech companies have given themselves veto power over the work of independent researchers." scientificamerican"dot"com/article.cfm?id=do-seed-companies-control-gm-crop-research
@OhmgrownCron A few human studies have been done which suggest potential problem in humans eating GE food(although the researchers would not be allowed to publish the study if they stated GE caused adverse affects in humans due to biotech companies restrictions). GM food: tasty DNA?"Trudy Netherwood and colleagues show that microbes in the small intestine of people with a gastrointestinal pathology can acquire and harbour DNA sequences from GM plants." nature.com/nature/view/040226.html
@OhmgrownCron "Our data indicate the possibility that in particular cases the survival time could be so delayed that, as a consequence, some traits of DNA could reach the intestine. In general, this aspect must be considered for vulnerable consumers (people suffering from gastrointestinal diseases related to altered digestive functionality, physiological problems or drug side-effects)" ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17346434
@OhmgrownCron "Pesticides associated to genetically modified foods (PAGMF), are engineered to tolerate herbicides such as glyphosate (GLYP) and gluphosinate (GLUF) or insecticides such as the bacterial toxin bacillus thuringiensis (Bt).""Blood of thirty pregnant women (PW) and thirty-nine nonpregnant women (NPW) were studied. Serum GLYP and GLUF were detected in NPW and not detected in PW. Serum 3-MPPA and CryAb1 toxin were detected in PW, their fetuses and NPW." ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21338670
@OhmgrownCron "In stably transformed HeLa cells, the integration event occurred at the right border of the tumor-inducing plasmid's transferred-DNA (T-DNA), suggesting bona fide T-DNA transfer and lending support to the notion that Agrobacterium transforms human cells by a mechanism similar to that which it uses for transformation of plants cells.""our results suggest that Agrobacterium can transport its T-DNA to human cells and integrate it into their genome." ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11172043
@OhmgrownCron The article you posted suggests that government bodies have decided that GE foods are substantially equivalent to their near-isolines and therefore government regulations do not generally require much additional testing. The article says absolutely nothing that questions the accuracy of the studies I posted. However, there are studies that question substantial equivalence and the limited testing required for GE food regulations.
@OhmgrownCron "Significance of differences for these compounds was proved by analysis of variance, and the variation extent ranged from 20 to 74% for amino acids, from 19 to 38% for fatty acids, from 25 to 57% for vitamins, from 20 to 50% for elements, and 25% for protein""unintended compositional alterations as well as unintended change of physical characteristic in transgenic rice compared with nontransgenic rice might be related to the genetic transformation" ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20050687
@OhmgrownCron Look at what government regulations on GE food are "The most detailed regulatory tests on the GMOs are three-month long feeding trials of laboratory rats, which are biochemically assessed. The tests are not compulsory, and are not independently conducted. The test data and the corresponding results are kept in secret by the companies." ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20941377
In fact organizations have sued biotech companies multiple times to try to force them to make studies public.
@OhmgrownCron No Africans died because of Greenpeace! The World Food Program replaced the GE food with Non-GE food bought locally. Greenpeace didn't cause anyone to starve, in fact Zambia's decision not to accept GE food prevented starvation. 53% of Zambian food exports are to the EU, and the EU would not accept Zambian food if they accepted the GM food, which would have destroyed the Zambian economy and increased famine!
@MassLiberal1 If Bill Gates doesn't need money, then why doesn't he donate every dollar he has to feed the poor, etc. Science says, 400 scientists in the UN report IAASTD "The use of patents for transgenes introduces additional issues. In developing countries especially, instruments such as patents may drive up costs, restrict experimentation by the individual farmer or public researcher while also potentially undermining local practices that enhance food security and economic sustainability."
Anyone in any doubt regarding genetically modified foods should watch videos about monsanto here on youtube. The fact that bill gates is advocating gmo foods shows that money follows money.
Good intentions and cash are not what this world needs. Peace begins in the individual human heart and God is love. Love is the answer.
Jesus knew money was toxic for humanity and upturned the tables of money lenders in the temple.
Christ knows and loves us. The world rejected love but we don't have to.
@SOLROSENBERG2 There will be rallies throughout the U.S. on 10/16/11 to get mandatory labeling of all products containing genetically engineered/modified organisms.

@VantekHG There has been a little over 700 or so health studies on GM food. About 75% of those studies were done by or funded by the biotech companies who manufacture the GMOs, suggesting bias. Of the remaining independent health studies about HALF suggest differences and adverse effects in the GM fed animals. There are so few health studies on humans fed GM food, that anyone that says it is safe for humans is ignorant of this or just plain lying!
@bornbythesea Not to mention the impact GM Bt crops have on honey bees as well. "Our results show that transgenic crops expressing Cry1Ab protein at 5000 ppb may affect food consumption or learning processes and thereby may impact honey bee foraging efficiency." ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18206234
I sometimes see the good intentions of GMOs, especially with their attempts to add in nutritional benefits such as vitamin A, but the fact is that there are companies like Monsanto who wish to turn a good cause like this into their private profit. On top of that, we are still unaware of the full extent of the safety of these organisms. It is a difficult issue indeed.
@mAckPS3 I will translate his answer for you: "Yes I am 100% for GMF, but there is a popular hysterical unfounded fobia towards it, and because of that I have to sugarcoat my answer for the clueless people"

There are more, these are just health studies, I haven't even touched on the environmental or economic impact that GMOs have had.
@myndy86 Codex Alimentarius is a part of the 2nd phase of the Jesuit plan to bring the whole world under the subjection of the Papacy and to restart persecution. This is encapsulated within a 300 year plan to counter the reformation. The 1st phase started in 1965 at the end of the Vatican II council. The 2nd phase started in October 2009. Codex Alimentarius was to pass just 2 months later in December of 2009. Bees are being poisoned by Jesuit Roundup spliced into GMO seeds.
@myndy86 You can produce a tiny amount of evidence for any fringe claim. Matter of fact is, thorough review articles by major scientists in major scientific journals consistently conclude that no convincing evidence exists of any adverse effects to human health, and generally recommend adoption of GMOs, just in a careful manner.
@VantekHG Out of the few human health studies on GM food, the majority of the thorough review articles by major scientists in major scientific journals suggest the potential for adverse effects. @movcrit You must have only read one of my comments, I gave two UN reports that discuss circumstances and peer reviewed studies for all of your comments. I can give you many more studies as well. Add h t t p : / / w w w . in front of the links without spaces to get them to work
Does anyone have any evidence that ALL genetically modified crops are potientially dangerous to humans or do you just like to pick and choose?
Does anyone have any studies that shows accurately that GMC's do not out perform so called organic crops in terms of output.
Does anyone here have alternative solutions to the problems Bill Gates is attempting to solve through his own personal wealth? Tell me right now how you can attempt to finance the food for millions of people through your own money.
@movcrit there's been lots of studies, both in Europe and USA. That's why your GMO poisons are BANNED in most of Europe. Of course in America's corporate slavery, it affects profits of terrorist organizations like Monsanto so that kind of research is attacked. FRANKEN CROPS are POISONS, they cause liver damage, destroy immune systems, and contain a pathetic tiny fraction of the vitamins and amino acids in organic crops. Not only that they destroy the natural balance and evenutally life on earth.
@movcrit The reason for KILLER franken foods is: 1) to destroy pollinators..GMO kills plants that produce pollen and nectar..bees, butterflies start dying out. natural food crops of vegetables, nuts, fruits are then wiped out. terrorist organizations like Monsanto, Syngenta, Bayer, DuPont, Dow destroy all the natural food varieties to enslave populations, starve them & make them dependent.
2) Peddle more and more lethal and killer pesticides and herbicides that sicken and kill all living things

@movcrit The Austrian government has stated that if they switched to GM they would lose 50% of their production due to the extra space needed for refuges and buffer zones required for growing GM crops. The UN states "data based on some years and some GM crops indicate highly variable 10-33% yield gains in some places and yield declines in others." agassessment"dot"org/reports/IAASTD/EN/Agriculture%20at%20a%20Crossroads_Executive%20Summary%20of%20the%20Synthesis%20Report%20(English).pdf
@movcrit As you can see conventional crops can outperform GM crops in several circumstances etc. and organic can outperform conventional in several circumstances etc. The Gates foundation earns a profit from the money Bill Gates gets a tax write-off for. Read this article to see how the Gates foundation invests in some of the most polluting companies. latimes.com/news/la-na-gatesx07jan07,0,2533850.story
@myndy86 What circumstances? Just saying it does again does not make your argument anymore stronger. Please, at least point me to some biased greenpeace article to try to add some credibility to your arguments.
Your la times link does not lead me to any article perhaps it is incorrect. In any case what source is your list of most polluting companies. How do they measure the amount of pollution produced? Mass? Volume? Toxicity? Damage to environment?
@CoopAssembly The rest of your statements are absolutely correct! Human tests are not required for GM food approval. Ecological farming(such as organic) generally outperforms chemical fertilizers in boosting food production in poor countries. Studies suggest GM crops have very little potential to alleviate hunger and poverty etc. The Gates foundation invests in some of the most polluting companies, which cause many of problems they are "supposed" to be trying to help.
@CoopAssembly Human cell studies with Agrobacterium(used to GM plants) and with herbicides(used on herbicide tolerant GM plants) have also suggested potential harms. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11172043 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15929894
@CoopAssembly There were a few human tests with GM foods. You probably didn`t hear about them because they mostly suggested potentially harmful effects, such as potential GM-DNA transfer to human microflora and potentially toxic GM-proteins in the bloodstream of humans. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21338670 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17346434 nature.com/nbt/journal/v22/n2/full/nbt934.html
Gates is such a naive idiot! Hey, Bill, there is no human testing you dope! Farmers die. Wake UP! Stop giving your money to big agri - old agri works better, cheaper, less farmer suicides.
Africa is agriculturally, economically & politically devastated BY DESIGN so that the USA can usurp the natural resources!
food grows perfectly fine without genetic engineering! GMO'S are the antichrist...Bill Gates is another ignorant human about nutrition and how real food and or chemicals interface with human biochemistry...one only needs to look at disease stats to see how the current USA food chain is affecting its population!!!
IMO Bill Gates is nothing more than a COMPUTER GUY w/a grade 10 education. IMO that does NOT qualify him as an expert on genetically modified food research, horticulture, agriculture or much of anything else. He's just a simple guy that dropped out of school and made a fortune by programming computers by being at the right place at the right time.
@grendelee GM uses promoters which increases HGT, so you would have to eat a GM pinecone. "GM food tasty DNA? @LaCerca It`s selfish to grow GM crops outdoors and use them for human or animal food, when thousands of cases of GM contamination have already happened, costing millions in economic losses, herbicide resistant weeds and pesticide resistant insects were caused by GM crops etc. Studies suggest organic reduces poverty, hunger, sickness and malnourishment without the problems of GM.
@LaCerca Studies suggest horizontal gene transfer from of dna from GM foods can occur. That means GM food can potentially alter your dna if you eat it. Most studies suggest organic farming increases nutrients in food. Organic uses conventional breeding which already put nutrient enhanced crops on the market, there are no nutrient enhanced GM crops on the market that I know of.
@myndy86 wow, that is a load of bullshit. So when i eat an apple, i get SOME OF THE APPLES DNA, THUS GAINING ITS POWER! lol Im gonna go eat some pinecones, grow spikes...
People grow this strain and it naturally produces Vitamin A as a consequence of the "modification." In many ways it is extremely similar to simple crop breeding. Millions can be saved from malnutrition and all of you try and stop it because you become uncomfortable with the idea of eating food that "unnatural." It's selfish.
Do all you people realize that eating a "genetically modified food" does not alter your own DNA, nor does it mean you've just consumed some kind of lab monstrosity not meant for Earth. We're taking about doing things like taking the gene that codes for an enzyme that makes Vitamin A in carrots and inserting it into a strain of lentils, which grow easily in harsher climates....
@RazaTheHacker UN/World Bank report International Assessment of Agricultural Science Technology Development by 400 scientists, concluded biotechnology has very little potential to alleviate hunger or poverty. Most studies suggest organic can alleviate hunger and poverty. srfood.org/images/stories/pdf/press_releases/20110308_agroecology-report-pr_en.pdf
Eugenicist Bill Gates has now joined the ranks of the Illuminati world "elites," and they believe the world is over-populated by "useless eaters" (as Henry Kissinger calls us). Bill Gates does NOT care about Africans, or you or I. He cares about fulfilling the prophecies on the Georgia Guide Stones. And if you don't have a clue about the Georgia Guide Stones, then you're not paying attention to these sick bastards global "Agenda 21."
Oh jeez, yeah, like the 2nd richest dude on the planet is being paid off as part of the conspiracy. All you well fed folk in rich developed nation who have never seen poverty, if you have no basic knowledge of genetics, agriculture, or biology in general, if you've never so much as stepped in a lab before, and if all you know about biotechnology comes from Jurassic Park, then kindly shut the hell up, because those of us who do know what we're talking about have real solutions to deadly problems
@Zhavlon The UN and World Bank report,International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development by 400 scientists, concluded that biotech crops have very little potential to alleviate poverty and hunger. Robert Watson, the director of the IAASTD, and chief scientist at the UK DEFRA, responded to a question from the newspaper, The Daily Mail – Are GM crops the simple answer to hunger and poverty? with the words, "I would argue, no."
SOOO DISLIKE! and I even liked Bill Gates via Facebook as one of those ppl who inspire me? I'm removing him now from my list! I wonder if he & Melinda have GMOs on their plates. NO to GMOs!
@mdma4life "A 36-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis died in July, while participating in a gene-therapy clinical trial.""Complications include rejection of DNA carriers, causing an immune response like the one that killed Jesse Gelsinger, who died in 1999 during a trial for a rare metabolic disorder.""a gene-therapy trial for severe combined immune deficiency, or SCID, caused leukemia in three children." wired"dot"com/medtech/genetics/news/2007/08/gene_therapy
@mdma4life The American Academy of Environmental Medicine(AAEM) website states
"There is more than a casual association between GM foods and adverse health effects."
"The strength of association and consistency between GM foods and disease is confirmed in several animal studies."
"Also, because of the mounting data, it is biologically plausible for Genetically Modified Foods to cause adverse health effects in humans." aaemonline"dot"org/gmopost.html
@mdma4life Geneticist David Suzuki on GM foods. "The experiments simply haven`t been done and we now have become the guinea pigs." "Anyone that says,`Oh we know that this is perfectly safe`, I say is either unbelievably stupid or deliberately lying."
Only an ego driven buffoon would think they have to save the world and feed them garbage that puts money into their coffers. Gates lost me years ago. A computer man who thinks he could jump into agriculture and become an expert overnight. Bet big money he's never even grown a single plant in his life. Pathetic and too rich for his own good. He could use some "wealth" in his life....
uh, uh, um, uh, um we're trying to kill off some people so my gang has all the resources to live because um I know um what's best uh for everyone! He's the friggin' tool!
@Vengeance4Me79 Not everything is a huge plan and conspiracy. Why not just live. such a thing isn't gonig to happen. Believe me. He's a billionarie who made money off of Microsoft with stocks in the economy and is just expressing his views. Calm down, take a pill and relax. Oh.. wait, you probably think pills are microchipped by the government so they can track your every movement. -.-'
@CBasie2856 So? Monsanto's made some mistakes. So have you and the government and everything else in life.
Why not just regulate them? I mean really? Is it that fucking hard. Why is it either unregulared or banned? Where's the "grey area." Who cares if they want to GM every animal? Just make it so they have tracking devices and must be captured if they escape? Make it so GM crops are infertile and can't pollute. Did you know Banana's are the result of Genetic Engineering? Science is cool, eh?
Did anyone even watch te video? He funds both transgenic and traditional breeding projects. Also, the transgenic plants are being made for African countries and will have beneficial traits like drought resistance. This would help people whos lives revolve around their ability to simply obtain enough food to survive. It must be great to live somewhere that has a virtually unlimited food supply, but your privilege is showing.
@sparkylovesmangos The UN and World Bank recently completed an unprecedentedly broad scientific assessment of world agriculture, the International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development, which concluded that biotech crops have very little potential to alleviate poverty and hunger.
@sparkylovesmangos UNEP-UNCTAD report "Organic Agriculture and Food Security in Africa ", the study demonstrates that organic agriculture can be equal or better for food security than most conventional systems and is more likely to be sustainable in the longer term, as it builds up levels of natural, human, social, financial and physical capital in farming communities. It also favours the use of low carbon footprint production methods and local resources.
@SniperViper1000 UN report Organic Agriculture and Food Security in Africa which states "Poverty is a major contributory factor to food security, organic farmers benefit from (i) cash savings, as organic farming precludes the need to purchase synthetic pesticides and fertilisers; (ii) extra incomes gained by selling the surplus produce(resulting from the change to organic); (iii) premium prices for certified organic produce, obtained primarily in Africa for export but also for domestic markets;"
@SniperViper1000 UNEP-UNCTAD report "Organic Agriculture and Food Security in Africa "and (iv) added value to organic products through processing activities. These findings are backed up by studies from Asia and Latin America that concluded that organic farming can reduce poverty in an environmentally friendly way."

We actually spray and use less insecticide now because of trait technology.
I never said farming wasn't sustainable before 1994. But don't kid yourself they weren't raising crops organically.
Im not saying I agree with world population but thats the way its going. In 1994 earth was at 5.6 billion --> 2012 7 billion.
We have to think ahead and be realistic.
Supply is for sure an issue in Africa. The cost of transporting and fuel consumption is huge!
OntarioCrops 5 days ago

LETS GET GLOBAL!!!
albobay1 1 week ago
@albobay1 Go and drive out to the country and ask a farmer what they actually think.
You can believe fake movies and propaganda. Food Inc is total bs bud.
Farmers plant the corn varieties that are winning local plots and university trials.
Farmers want to plant GM seed because it is showing them more economic benefit.
OntarioCrops 1 week ago
@OntarioCrops You said, "Farmers want to plant GM seed because it is showing them more economic benefit." That is an artificial economic benefit thanks to government subsidies, but organic farmers generally have more economic benefit once they get through the conversion process. Organic is knowledge based farming and GM farmers don't have to know as much about farming and it's more assembly line, so they sacrifice some economic benefit for an easier farming experience.
myndy86 6 days ago
@myndy86
GM crops have nothing to do with government subsidies. In my province farmer don't have those subsidies.
Production agriculture >>>>>> organic agriculture.
You can't feed the world through organic agriculture. This isn't the 1950's, there are 7 billion people on this planet.
Do you think a city like Mumbai has backyard organic gardens. They have a population density of 20,000 people per km^2.
Farming a 1000 of acres of corn in the US corn belt is not you backyard garden.
OntarioCrops 6 days ago
@OntarioCrops In the U.S. GM crops do have subsidies and most organic farmers do not, yet even without the subsidies organic farmers generally make more profit(after the conversion). Peer reviewed studies from the 1970's to the present suggest we can feed the world with organic. That same U.S. corn belt isn't really used for food. Most GM corn crops are used for ethanol production, cattle feed and corn oil, corn syrup, etc.
myndy86 6 days ago
@myndy86 Since the 1970's the worlds population has doubled. In the next 20 years we will see 2 billion more mouths to feed. Will you starve those people because of you anti human organic agenda.
Grain corn directly used for food. whether its meat or corn flakes.
How many organic farmers do you know that raised 110 bu wheat this year.
Fertilizer, Herbicides, Fungicides and Genetic Breeding have allowed us to double yields since the "green revolution".
Do you farm organically??
OntarioCrops 6 days ago

@OntarioCrops Most varieties of Bt and HT transgenic corn is used for ethanol, NOT food. Stop growing cattle food and you feed billions more people!
myndy86 6 days ago
@OntarioCrops if thats the case those populations are not sustainable. we shouldn't degrade the quality of our earth and food to sustain unhealthy populations of people. but its not. and theres enough organic food to go around. its just not distributed properly. u really think our farming was unsustainable before 1994, the introduction of GMs into the food supply? if monsanto gave away its profits to help people in africa buy food, maybe they could eat? money is just as big an issue as supply.

But the restrictions they (seed companies) put on independant researchers says enough in terms of reliability. juirtle 2 weeks ago
@juirtle ....vegetable matter is, etc. so how would we respond if we eat things that nature cannot produce? short term means nothing in this scenario compared to the long term.
juirtle 2 weeks ago
@juirtle I've taken a look at several research papers, and I can say that to regard gmo as less safe than "natural" is irresponsible, to say the least. From a logical viewpoint and from a professional view as a biochemist: human intelligence allows us to overcome obstacles and burdens that nature has imposed on us.
plzenjoymybigolpenis 2 weeks ago
@plzenjoymybigolpenis Biochemist? LMAO! Please don't disrespect biochemists by trying to associate yourself with them. Not using the precautionary principle is irresponsible. If you were a biochemist you would already know that just using different fertilizers can alter gene expressions in the food crop and/or the animals consuming them and could cause potential harms, transgenic crops can have dozens of different protein expressions compared to their near isolines.

GM food: tasty DNA?"Trudy Netherwood and colleagues show that microbes in the small intestine of people with a gastrointestinal pathology can acquire and harbour DNA sequences from GM plants." nature.com/nature/view/040226.html

There you go, read that, and you should really dwell into how the studies are done before you go around claiming their accuracy lol.
OhmgrownCron 2 months ago
@OhmgrownCron The article you posted suggests that government bodies have decided that GE foods are substantially equivalent to their near-isolines and therefore government regulations do not generally require much additional testing. The article says absolutely nothing that questions the accuracy of the studies I posted. However, there are studies that question substantial equivalence and the limited testing required for GE food regulations.
myndy86 2 months ago
@OhmgrownCron "Significance of differences for these compounds was proved by analysis of variance, and the variation extent ranged from 20 to 74% for amino acids, from 19 to 38% for fatty acids, from 25 to 57% for vitamins, from 20 to 50% for elements, and 25% for protein""unintended compositional alterations as well as unintended change of physical characteristic in transgenic rice compared with nontransgenic rice might be related to the genetic transformation" ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20050687
myndy86 2 months ago

Bill Gates following the money? Like he needs it. He's following the science.

PanzerBlitz43 6 months ago
@movcrit The reason for KILLER franken foods is: 1) to destroy pollinators..GMO kills plants that produce pollen and nectar..bees, butterflies start dying out. natural food crops of vegetables, nuts, fruits are then wiped out. terrorist organizations like Monsanto, Syngenta, Bayer, DuPont, Dow destroy all the natural food varieties to enslave populations, starve them & make them dependent.
2) Peddle more and more lethal and killer pesticides and herbicides that sicken and kill all living things

He's a billionarie who made money off of Microsoft with stocks in the economy and is just expressing his views. Calm down, take a pill and relax. Oh.. wait, you probably think pills are microchipped by the government so they can track your every movement. -.-'

@Nathan21122012
really, and they don't even label them GMO?
CBasie2856 9 months ago
@Nathan21122012
are we getting ANY nutrition from these GMO organisms in the grocery store or are they all being stored as fat in our bodies?
CBasie2856 9 months ago
@CBasie2856 So? Monsanto's made some mistakes. So have you and the government and everything else in life.
Why not just regulate them? I mean really? Is it that fucking hard. Why is it either unregulared or banned? Where's the "grey area." Who cares if they want to GM every animal? Just make it so they have tracking devices and must be captured if they escape? Make it so GM crops are infertile and can't pollute. Did you know Banana's are the result of Genetic Engineering? Science is cool, eh?

@SniperViper1000
lets just hope that when all these new GM foods come out, you don't deplete yourself of nutrients. Let's just hope you don't die in fact.

@myndy86 It also tells 3rd world countries to fuck off and die. Organic farming does nothing of the sorts.
