Your guest is right. :-) its a matter of preference. I started with the stir-up (Hula) hoe, but then I bought the winged hoe. I found a real sharp one (maybe that's the difference). It was easier for me to use, less effort.
I hate the Garden Weasel. Give it to a neighbor you don't like. Extend the handle if you must use it - about two more feet. Short handle is a back killer. Hula hoe is excellent. Use in a PULLING motion. Old standby Hoe is outdated and there are better hoes. Chopping motion will hurt your back.
Wing hoe is good. They are using it incorrectly, Use it in a pulling motion.
