@yamahonkawazuki I currently have a pair of free (my friend bought them for £60 on ebay but his wife didn't like them.) vintage old recording studio speakers connected to an Acoustic Solutions SP101 Amplifier cost £60 from Argos. Not ultra high end but sound really good. They are big though. I would post a video but it didn't seem an interesting enough setup. I have a little acoustic solutions subwoofer that I don't use as it's too boomy, but that Bose sub probably beats it.

Bose 301s are way better, and you can get them relatively cheap, the bose higher end systems are expensive but can be worth the money if you enjoy good sound but dont want to fool around with tweaking a thousand different settings to get that good sound

I believe they are Cerwin Vega Re-25's. They have a 10" Woofer, 5.25" mid range, and a one inch tweeter. I run these off of a Kenwood receiver at something like 100 watts a channel and they scream. They get impressively loud.

I paid something like $40 for them at a garage sale haha.

Just my own 2 cents, since I made this video. BOSE is definitely not the end-all surround sound system and their products are usually overpriced for what they are. However, BOSE does offer great full range drivers that sound great in a little package.  I have Bose in my car and also in my house and I am impressed; it just goes to show you what good engineering can do with modest drivers and enclosures.

It also depends on which one you bought.Yamaha like other receiver companies out there have a low end unit that usually falls short. Yamaha,Onkyo,Denon,Marantz and,H.K. are all guilty of this. Although what people are referring to are the Bose home theater systems which is very different. The Bose home theater systems are cheaply made mostly out of paper and plastic and not worth the money that Bose asks for them.

omg...for those who don't know....it doesn't matter how many ports there is....and the enclosure is called a bandpass enclosure....they are very quiet on most notes and have very loud and then gets very loud at around 60hz...im not sure why computer speakers are almost all this way..maybe looks..but it sounds like crap, especially vented

People saying that BOSE Acoustimass systems are bad, are really stupid. Sure they might be a bit pricy. I dont know about this excact system, because I only have experienced an older system. (Similar, but the sub had 2 ports, and was more "older" looking) . Believe it was called Acoustimass 5, series 1..

And that system, had some serious punch in it, for its size..

It all depends on, where people place the subwoofer, in their room.

@yamahonkawazuki i have this set in my pc room. and an old set of bose 901 series 2. in my HT room. those blew a while back and bose replaced them. back when bose sold car audio directly to the consumer, i bought a set for my accord. those blew. ( i didnt break em in properly. i play msotly classical. which will hit a speaker harder than most "hip hop" will. because it runs the full spectrum, not just one or two. is bose hte best? no. but htey cover all bases fairly well

Bose doesn't show the frequency response or impedance of their products. you have to measure them on your own in a clean room, and using RTA and very HQ mics. They spike all over the place because of the acoustics of the room. It is sort of funny that people think that a 6 foot cabinet with 15" woofers and 6 tweeters and 3 midranges like the Cerwins are superior. Size means nothing when it comes to the cabinet.

Well Americanidol guy. I understand what u mean but there are only two drivers in the acoustimass 5. And technically, anything below 400Hz is considered a subwoofer. Now the purpose of this design was to eliminate audible distortion and reproduce a smooth tone to it. Yes I do work at Bose (what a co-insidence) and they're better brands. But Bose isn't all about noise, it's about much quality in a small package.

There are far better t-lines out there, made from decent materials instead of plastic cases and flimsy paper-cone drivers. 400Hz is bass and should not even be close to being reproduced by a subwoofer. A real subwoofer should have to output nothing higher than 100Hz, but you can't really expect that from a "Base Module" which technically couldn't really be called a subwoofer for obvious reasons.

Gotta agree with the... astutely named bosesucks101 here, 400hz isn't subwoofer territory; it's not even bass, it's midrange. Hell, most decent bookshelf speakers go below 70hz.

Also, if Bose is "about much quality," show us a frequency response chart for an Acoustimass system. All Bose does is stuff cheap paper speakers into plastic enclosures and tune so the speakers sound good to people who don't know what they're talking about (I.E. the people who turn their bass and treble all the way up).

I'm not a Bose fanboy, really the opposite, but this ISN'T technically a subwoofer because it is three 5.5" drivers in a bandpass enclosure. I saw a frequency test done by an independent tester and it only went to about 36Hz. Any good sub will hat at least 20
