real hair is just more natual and looks better anybody i have ever met w/ a weave or a wig always has a musky smeel coming from there cranium.....natural is awesome bute synthetic is ok if you stay clean/self hygeine
"you're going to get cancer"? someone said that? that's harsh.you're right everyone should be positive and encouraged, but I feel people have a right to like or dislike what they like but they need not disrespect in the process.
Amen! I actually dropped out of several natural hair groups and forums because of this... wigs, weaves and perms are like the forbidden topic. Its aggravating...i always say God made you an individual for a reason...to live your life not live mine for me. Its like a Cult..They found a new reason to further divide African Americans instead of unite...something so major over something so minor. Its Just hair!!!
I like your video. I think the people who go natural, because they realize the dangers of the chemicals they have been using so long, they become very emotional and want to tell everyone the whole world! its alright......but like you said, they need to do it in an educational fashion where people will be informed and want to look into being natural.Nice word have a greater impact than harsh words..................
Thank you for this video. I went natural a year ago with 6 inches or more of natural hair, but I came to the conclusion that I like the IDEA of going natural more than actual practice. I told another natural about how I'm considering going back to relaxed hair and she got all Natural Nazi on me.
I think your hair and style is awesome by the way.
Thanks for posting this video. As a natural I never feel the need to tell someone to stop this or stop that. I remember when I was relaxed if someone natural had said to be natural I would have ignored them and been irritated by it. I wasn't ready to be natural therefore I wasn't ready to hear the advice. The same is true, you can't go around telling ppl what to do with their hair that is just ridiculous. Only on youtube do ppl say such things, i doubt this happens in person. i hope not!
I personally don't believe that anyone should try to convince anyone what to do with their hair/body even if u r being nice about it..unless the person truly doesn't know or WANTS to hear an alternative then all u r doing is pressuring them but in a "nice way".It's like me going up to every natural and describing-in a 'nice way'-all the protein bonds that r compromised when coloring the hair..it's just a subtle way of putting my beliefs of what's "right" or wrong. Let people just do them.
I don't wear make-up, rarely can be bothered with jewelry and I have relaxed hair. From these videos with girls with natural hair your faces tend to be really made up and hair well-styled, big earrings. -_- That will never be me, too much effort but I want to go natural because I don't like going to the hairdressers, don't like the chemicals and hoping it will be cheaper. But I will probably go from looking dis-heaved with relaxed to looking like cave woman with natural hair.
Hair is just hair. It just makes me sad when I hear my little cousins say that they hate being black because their hair isn't straight and their skin isn't light enough. That bothers the heck out of me. So, it doesn't bother me if hair is relaxed or natural cause it's just hair. It just bothers me when others tend to hate themselves or change themselves just because others don't like it. That's when it becomes an issue.
It's nice to know that there are some naturals who actually believe in individual freedom of hair expression. I first got my hair relaxed at 12. Some of my friends older sisters berated me for wanting to have straight hair. I personally was sick of dealing with my thick as hell foot and a half long hair! That was too much for lil old me to deal with. I tried to explain that it being straighter made it easier for me and I liked the look but they didn't want to hear it. Thanks for being cool
Sorry to go off topic, but what do you use for your teeth? They are so white. Anyway, I don't even know why hair is such a big issue among us. I mean let's just let people do whatever with their hair damn. It shows shows how many issues black people still have with our features. We have been too brainwashed.
I've been "natural" for about 6 years, and it make me laugh to see "new" naturals jugging other people so easily, becoming "blacker" than anyone else in town... "Natural" is quite controversial, anyway. My boyfriend hate make up, he prefers "natural beauty", well ME I LOVE foundation, blush, mascara, lipstick and all THE FAKE of it. I looove heating junk and there is nothing "natural" in it! Life is short and hair is just hair! relaxing is for me a trick everyone play with their own EVERYDAY!
So right. I'm natural and I've given my older sister a relaxer several times. I like my natural hair for me and people love it on me. I'd like more people to be natural but I'm not going to go around telling people what to do with their hair.
Women of all colors mess with their hair. I've never seen any movement among white women trying to bully each other into not doing not perming it, dying it, straightening it or do anything with their hair.
Why is it so horrible for black women to want to switch it up and wear their hair in different styles? Yes, we should ALL steer clear of harmful substances, but it seems black women have this pressure wear their hair in styles they're uncomfortable with just to PROVE they aren't self-haters.
Not condoning being mean at all but maybe some naturals are getting revenge for all the years of people saying they have "nigga hair" and calling there hair nappy and many other derogatory names. I really don't care, hair is hair it's good as long as it's taken care of. That was just a thought. Also, you really haven't heard relaxed people going hard on naturals? I'm 16 and I hear "ew your hair is ugly and you need a perm" more than I should. Two wrongs don't make a right. I get your mindset.
nice video, why do black women even care what other black women are doing with their hair, black women's hair i consider it all natural relaxed hair, weave hair wearing natural hair. the weave hair they bought the hair its theirs, perming is just changin da texture its still their hair and wearing it natural its their hair regularly. no other race claims self hatred when they wear afros or cornrows or tanning! blacks need to stop hatin!
All I know is I am transitioning 8 months and seen many a video and I love yours the best. Because your thoughts are beautiful and you speak from a good place.Props girl lol :)
Perfect! I totally agree that the negative attitudes and anonymous comments that degrade others and put them down. We have the opportunity to be loving, kind, and open. When we are ganging up on other, showing division and creating groups to support ego is not doing nothing anything for any of us. Thanks for speaking out but the best thing may be to not to even highlight negative behavior because any attention is still attention and we are living in a time of look at me even if I am acting out.
Ladies wear what they want. Wanting your hair to look ''beautiful' and loving your natural hair are 2 different things. Straight or loosely coiled hair is THE standard of western beauty and that's what's being done. So NO that's not loving your hair it's just loving how your hair turns out when you put in a weave or perm etc. but I'd never bash anyone for doing it. I love the person for what's inside and just let them live their life. I wouldn't want it done to me! And yes, permed ladies do bas
im natural and i agree i tell people the pro's and con's of perming hair and being natural being natural is not all that and either is perming but to each its own and being natural is expensive and time consuming but i love my natural hair i have had processed hair and it was not for me the older i got i needed to find myself so that was inspiration to become natural but i have heard women with perms bash naturals as well but all i have say is CAN WE GET ALONG!!!!
i can admit to being guilty of this!! lol but its not so much with perm but more so with weave. mainly because i HATE weave!! LOL so i do make comments about how black women shouldnt pay so much money to look more european!
i gree with u girl ,im mix and and my natural hair dries up in the sun or if the wind touches i , im thinking to relax my hair to make it easier to handle, still thinking abt.
I've been natural for at least a year, and I'm getting better at making my hair healthy like it was before my mom started relaxing my hair as a kid (which was down the middle of my back before junior high). Anyway, I agree with you MissCinnamonCake. It's really sad to see some naturals on their high horse bashing others for having or even considering relaxed hair. Calm down, people! Hair is hair and people can do whatever they wish with it.
You look good, sexy and interesting. I have never understood why women in US relax their hair. Must have something to do with racial history in your country. Too bad there are not many African or other "black" women here in Finland.
Btw. "Natural hair community" It just cracks me up how there are all kinds on communities in US. I think Im part of "chocolate eating community" and "food eatring community" then.
Wow. I totally agree. This was on my mind as well. One thing we have to realize as "Born Again" Naturals, is that we used to have relaxers and most likely no one was bashing us because we were going with the 'NORM' anyway. I'm always approached by people about natural hair and I will never make those with relaxers feel like crap. We do have to take a kinder approach or our opinion is void. We make a better impact by Educating and not Discriminating. Thanks for the video. UNITY!!!
Thank YOUUUUUUUUUU! I'm relaxed and n I would go bald n wear wigs for my the rest of my life before i go natural. But my bff is natural and i respect her n she looks better natural than relaxed.. my natural hair cost ALOT to manage. Trust me! lol.. I get so annoyed when someone tells me to go natural,( I yell at them with my African accent)..I also hate when they tell me they feel free cause there hair is natural. my hair is an accessory, it doesn't define my beauty, intelligence, or faith.
On the hair boards the ladies who relax are the most kind and pleasant women. The natural hair women are messy and tacky and like to keep up a bunch of mess. Its like after some people choose to have their natural hair that its an invite for them to become a complete bitch.
@Ahdree23 Wow really? I wonder which day I'm going to wake up and be a complete bitch? I went natural a month ago and don't at all feel messy and or tacky, and my mama left this world knowing she raised a young lady to not keep up a bunch of mess. "Hair Boards" where did u get this from? I don't see any women off the basketball wives show or real housewives of Atlanta rock'n the natural hair. And they keep up a lot of mess! Hell that's what make the show full of drama!
So people really do call themselves "naturals"? LMAO!!!! Ok, so we're not human anymore? We stop relaxing our hair and we become something else?? Im not bashing you but I see chicks on the hair boards saying "all naturals click here". I've kept my hair natural for 3 years but I never considered myself as a whole human to say "Im a natural". Lol. Im sorry it sounds silly a little bit and weird. But as far as your points I feel what you're saying. You should see the hair boards.
i have to say that i don't have a problem with anyone "putting pressure" on black women to be natural. 99% of the time, the pressure is the other way around. the flack and ridicule that naturals get far far exceeds whatever relaxed heads get. probably fewer than 5% of bw are natural so why do naturals have to defend their position on anything? i don't throw shade a relaxed girls although i think weaves and the like are sometimes a pretty sad commentary on how blacks perceive themselves.
You're so gorgeous!!! And yes, I completely agree. It's one thing to say "Hey, you can be a bit healthier if you try this..." or "Have you ever tried..." but a completely different, unnecessary thing to degrade someone just because they choose to wear their hair a different way. It's a lifestyle, yes, but it's also just a HAIRSTYLE. I forsee people arguing about hair being worn down or in up-dos next, and that's sad. People should be more mature.
i dont think anyone ever has the right to tell someone to go natural. unlike smoking, chemically treated hair does not harm anyone but the person putting in the chemical. i think so many people are pressuring others about their hair decisions simply because they are not as secure with their own choice, as they think. if a person really is happy with themselves they can be comfortable with anothers personal choice, no matter what it may be, which is something im not seeing.
Yes, you are absolutely correct. Hair is hair, however it's worn. I've been ranting about this myself, not necessarily about natural vs. straight, but that we as a people expend so much energy on hair, when we need to focus on what is really happening in our country and around the world. Come on folks, wake up, if someone wants to wear straight hair, that is THEIR choice and THEIR hair. My dreadlocks are to my waist, but that is MY choice. NO one needs to do what I do. Peace.
Thank you!!!!!!!! Finally someone felt the need to speak some truth...GEEEESH!!!!!! Im sick of too & ppl have definitely gotten outta control! SMH.....
Thank you for putting it out there. I tried to straighten my hair this week, didn't work, but I felt like someone would have something to say about me straightening my hair. I love my natural hair, but I also still think that straight hair is pretty as well. I chose to go natural so that I wouldn't have to deal with relaxers anymore, but that shouldn't mean that I should feel guilty or look down on someone else because their hair is straight. Thanks for saying what you said.
Even though you are trying to put a positive image about being natural and everything, this was still like HighlyFavoredThatsMe said, another form of division. Because on a relaxed channel you shouldn't go on their channel "nicely" saying, "you should try going natural." I feel like people's hair choice is their hair choice and it doesnt matter if you're saying it nicely or not, it's still no one's business to help ppl make decisions about their personal lifestyle. I'm natural btw.
FIRST OFF.. I LOVEEEEEE YOUR HAIR!! SECONDLY, I LOVEEEEE YOUR VIDEO AND I COMPLETELY AGREE!! I also have a little sister who has relaxed hair and she has no desire to go natural and I am completely fine with it! Natural hair isn't for everyone. I am proud to see this natural movement taking force but I agree with you, we have to be careful with how we come across those who aren't natural. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Thanks for the reminder
People need to be able to decide they like their hair a certain way, either way is beautiful. I'd also like to say that although "naturals" and people with relaxed hair are assumed to be black it's not always the case, there are many women like me, white, who have kinky curly 3c-4a hair that has to be treated in that same time consuming loving way. I just hope everyone realises we all need to love eachother and support eachother whether we chose to keep our curls or get a relaxer.
It's kind of interesting, because I see more relaxed people criticizing naturals for their decision, seldomly I see it the other way around. Maybe it depends on the area.
i love your view on this... I was natural for like 3 years, and I ended up moving to a different state, and I got a relaxer, not because I didnt likke my natural hair, but i just wanted to change my hair. i love changing it up. lol. Hair is not big deal to me.
I agree with you, its all in the delivery. I see that women that wear their hair in their natural state have been degraded for so long that it is almost a natural instinct to be defensive, or to persuade others to embrace what was given to them. The issue is also not helped by what some define as beauty, ie light skin v. dark skin, or long straight vs short kinky.
i agree with you.i've seen many videos where relaxed ladies grew their hair very very long and it was healthy. just like naturals have a way for careing for natural hair, their are different ways for careing for relaxed hair. instead of bashing relaxed hair, help them by educating them on hair and if they still choose to stay relaxed then help them grow and maintain length by again educating them.
Relaxed hair texture is still natural hair but the texture has been changed chemically. Pressed hair is natural hair but changed physically. They are all natural hair but different forms of natural hair. None is superior to the other. Different strokes for different folks. If we all wore our hair the same way hairstyles would be boring and they be no need for these videos.
first off let me tell u how much i love and appreciate this video. i do however think you are dead wrong on one aspect. Youd stated that naturals are always the ones drawing the lines between relaxed and naturals in a negative way. I dont think you could be more wrong. why r most young black women hesitant to go natural in the first place? How many naturals do u c on the silver screen or in the music videos? We're practically DISCOURAGED to be natural at every turn. Even in real life. ask any 4c
Right on point. It is not our job as Naturalista's to bash other sista's when they straighten or relax their hair. Their choice is their choice, and our's is our's.
I'm going to be honest and say that I have no clue how I got to this vid and I don't really know anything about what you are talking about because I am a sheltered white girl lol but still I watched the whole thing because you are so awesome and beautiful. Love your earrings too btw. C:
We should start naming names and if those naturals are being mean then we should stop subscribeing to them. I have several favorites I like but I also look at women that are not natural. When you are "Free" you can make choices but when you are enslaved then you start to marginalize yourself and others. Just do you and if you have something people need then tell them in love. Jesus say with love and kindness have I drawn thee. I love you young sister, keep up the wonderful work.
u have beautiful, no..gawjess lips...can't stop looking at them :) haha...i so sound like a perv..but i'm not i swear....just wanted to compliment u..
I'VE BEEN THINKING THE SAME THING FOR MONTHS!!!! IT'S NOT YOUR HEAD??? WHY DO PEOPLE CARE EITHER WAY??? crazy. All I know is...I love my hair, and that is that! I answer any and all questions that people come to me with about my texture, my routine as far as washing and care...etc. But it's not like some days i don't miss my relaxer!!!!! LOL. there are advantages and disadvantages to doing both...and there is a CHOICE. people be trippin...
YOU GO GIRL!! Well said, however, from what I'VE SEEN, it's the other way around. I've heard a lot of people say things like "Dang when is she gone get a perm?" Or "She need to do something with her hair, it sho look dry!" Myself, I'm newly natural this year. Although nobody has ever made a negative comment to me (to my face) I hear them talk about other people. Although I get a lot of support from friends and family, I can't help but get offended when someone says "Girl her hair is so nappy!"
I am in total agreement. Say your piece in love and kindness and move on. It is really all you can do. If a woman decides to stop processing her hair, she will AND she may just come to you for guidance and mentorship. Bash her and you may just love her forever. But no matter what her decision, it is HER decision. Natural or relaxed . . . her choice.
i was natural for 5 years and loved it, now i am permed and i love it too. perm is not bad for your hair and it does not make you less black than any natural that is stupid and childish and if sista's want to divide over something so petty then they were never for the black community in the first place! The only thing that is horrible for our hair is not taking care of it properly.
I am natural and in my immediate family my lil sis who is 1 year younger than me and my mom are relaxed. I b.c.ed about a year ago. I have been on youtube and forums doing research and i don't like when I am on a forum and people are bashing relaxed people saying how stupid they and things like that because they are basically calling me adn my family stupid and being hipocritical because 2,3,5 years ago they had relaxed hair. It gets on my nerves sooo bad.
Dude like she said... Why did u even click on her video to watch it? Just to have sumthin negative to say?? She's right.. And she don't want people thinking that she goes around doing that!! GOASH!!! maybe ur an example of one of the people she talkin about... .___.
Who cares!!! Why are you even wasting your breathe on what the next woman is saying or doing. Your best bet would be to worry about you and your circle. If you want to be natural then so be it. If not then so be it. If we concentrated more on our studies and sticking together then we may get somewhere in this world. By you making this video it shows you're just like the people bashing others. Who are you to judge them? Let them do what they do. Keep making videos to help educate natural women:)
Agreed! I know some naturals think that going natural is part of progressing in our community (and it is), but it's totally counter-intuitive if people are pushing natural hair in a way that is so close-minded and negative. Everybody is not going to wear their hair in its natural state all the time, and there's nothing wrong with that. That's part of the beauty of our hair, anyway - its diversity! Btw your hair looks beautiful, it's grown a lot since the first video I've seen from you!
natural hair sistas is bringing down the black community! Yes she said that! And it have been many on youtube sharing their stories about relaxed women coming at them! One woman her mother n law taught her son that natural women are the type of women that he should stay away from, because they don't know how to take care of themselves and that they are not real women! Come on girl wake up! Its from both sides now! But we both know which side is correct! Like you said there is a right and there
Yes I did! I was young when this happened so yes! I take my experience and I try to help those that need help, because they don't want to go through the same things I did! And if they don't listen then I pray for them that they see the light one day! So that's how I deal with that! Now you said you don't see relax girls doing that to naturals! Sista come on there are many stories where that come from! There is a girl on youtube talks about how a relaxed chick came at her talking about! That the
Ok I agree with you to a certain extent! Yes you are not suppose to bash anyone for doing the wrong thing, but help them with kindness and show that you can support them to go natural! Yes! But relax hair is bad! Sodium hydroxide is the main ingredient that can melt through a coke bottle, what makes you think it can do that for your brain and doctor and nurses will tell you that! Now I am natural myself, I had a perm before, the perm literally put me in the hospital, I had 101 degree high fever!
First of all your make up is gorgeous! I am natural and I enjoy it, but I feel so isolated because we are "few and far between" in my area where I live. I do try and get my other family members to go natural. I have been successful with a couple cousins yay. I just see being natural can be a way that we can unite as one. I do get criticism from ppl who arerelax and its like crazy because the concept of not relaxing seems so foreign to them. We should realize that we don't all have to be the same
I really disagree on the fact that relaxed woman don't bash natural woman. It may not be so much on youtube but in everyday life I have definitely heard it. Black women (especially relaxed ones) love to use those two words that just make me cringe: "Good Hair". "Girl please! You think you have good hair or something?" Ugh. Please give it a break. People can be so ignorant. Anyhow. I totally agree with you in all other aspects of the argument. If someone wants to relax their hair then so what?!
Thank you for this video! i really dislike seeing or hearing naturals demeaning those who temporarily straighten their hair for a style. Its hair, its belongs to you, being natural is what YOU make it. Ladies need to be respectful towards each other.
amen!!! iTS JUST HAIR! i just dont feel its my place to infotm people at every turn that they should go natural··they are grown·· and they have google!
@Creditgirl2020 the comments arent left on their own video's they leave it on the permed video's look at perm hair video's and look at the comments, youll see ppl bragging about their un-permed hair and being mean to others who perm. but one older lady said it best when she mentioned the fact that these new naturals act like this is new ppl been pushing the natural movement before half of them were born and weren't putting down their ppl to do it!
It's just hair. Even if someone is relaxed and you don't like it, they aren't killing themselves and/or others. It's really just hair. I mean, I guess it's a movement, but the movement is just about old cells that grows out of our bodies, so it seems all a bit silly. But I know what you mean. If it was a "let us educate ourselves and stop the continuation of the ghetto" I think I'd be moe behind it.
To be honest I don't think some naturals try to be mean when they say those things they just don't know how to tell someone that what they are doing may not be good for them. That's all. A lot of times relaxing the hair takes away the fullness and bounciness that most black women have when it comes to their hair. It also breaks the hair, which causes it to become short. Relaxed haired girls be talking mess as well. So both need to stop talking mess and try to be more mature about it.
I subscribed to you just cause of this I totally agree with what your saying 100% people need to understand that what good for them, other people just may not feel the same way. I mean most of my family is relaxed and I love their hair but for me personally I hated my hair when it was straight so I made the decision to be natural because I love my curls. I have nothing against people who are relaxed but I would never bash someone for their personal choice that's just wrong and stupid
Woman YES! I have noticed all this negativity too. I am getting so tired of this natural policing that keeps going on. Its annoying. I wish I could put these people on mute.
I agree! I subscribed right after watching this video. I've never chemically straightened but I do flat iron. The last few months i have been wearing my hair curly much more often am experimenting with different styles and products. But reading some comments and seeing some videos it's like they almost make you feel guilty for wearing your hair a certain way, not using all natural products, putting any heat to your hair and so on.Not everyone. there are alot of people like you and those are th
Like this whole thing with being a "whole natural" I can't stand that! You're not a "whole natural" if you color your hair, flat iron it, tex lax it, you have too loose of a texture.... (-_-") ...
Healthy hair is healthy hair no matter how you view it, m'kay?
"IF SOMEONE IS DOING SOMETHING THAT YOU THINK IS HARMFUL TO THEM, AND YOU WANT TO INTERVENE, THEN YOU DO IT IN A KIND AND LOVING WAY." Beautifully said sis, that's what made me just subscribe to your channel. I'm a Christian and I believe that statement is one that Jesus tried to show through his actions. We sometimes get so caught up in "letting people know about themselves" that we end up judging or turning into nazi's. I agree with your sentiments, and I try not to get caught up in the hype.
People like those are natural hair nazis. Instead of inspiring others to go natural, they end up giving off a negative superiority complex vibes. Sad.
@MsTorrie82 You are so well spoken and kind with your approach, I am transitioning to natural hair now, But your video is the most postive that I have come across... Thanks for being a positive inspiration.....
i agree 100%... it happens both ways tho, i get ppl tellin me i look a mess n i needa flat iron or perm or simply weave it up n never show it. but naturals shouldnt behave that way.... its a hott mess!
I just stumbled across your channel, and like your thoughts here. I did a VR to AFRICANEXPORT covering this recently. I've also been natural for life, careless dalliances with pressing combs and blowdryers damaged my hair and springboarded me into the online hair world. Bashing others because they don't do as u do is totally wrong, everyone is entitled to make their own decisions, and if they be mistakes so be it. Great vid.
These Natural Nazis also need to realise that being natural means different things to different people - while for some it's a much deeper, life changing, liberating experience reflecting their pride in being African/or African descent, for some it's purely for aesthetic reasons, or merely an experiment for those who are curious and like to try something different. They may later decide to go back to relaxing if that's what they prefer....and that should be ok too
So true. I love being natural, but do get fed up with the Natural Nazis looking down on relaxed people. It's THEIR choice. Why should anyone be so concerned and make it their business. Even WITHIN the natural hair community, there are those hard-care naturals who look down on you if you;ve used colour in your hair, if if you don;t use all natural hair products. Apparently that' s not authentic/natural enough
I totally agree with you. I only give my opinion/advice when I am asked. So many people stop me @ work, in stores and ask question about products and length . I feel like they have given me the "go ahead" to give info. Otherwise I keep my mouth shut.
I like your message. I am a natural Hair specialist/ loctitian and I work in a salon with stylist who work only with relaxed hair. The issues of relaxed vs. Natural are there. I have some clients that think we (the naturals) are better, and feel as if I'm obligated to back them up because I have locs. I can't stand it! I speak against judgment of those who are different. Things are separated to much as is. This issue needs to be addressed!
@MissCinnamonCake I really <3 this video; We have similar stories I recently went natural (May 2011 ) after transitioning for some months, personally I did it because I love my hair and I want healthy hair.It is all about choice I have been relaxed and loved my weaves and braids (still do- now I know how to use these styles in a protective way) Some people bash me when I wear my weaves or makeup or acrylic tips because I am not being "natural". As beautiful black women we can express ourselves
I agree with LenaShowe. I'm natural, but I find that some naturals in the natural hair community are so defensive and sensitive, yeah I said it! Like every negative comment about natural hair sets them off. To me, if you're supposed to be executing confidence then snide remarks that people make shouldn't set you off. Sometimes I feel like taking a break from forums, blogs, etc. because of all the negativity. I wish people would stop being offended by choices others make with THEIR own hair.
real hair is just more natual and looks better anybody i have ever met w/ a weave or a wig always has a musky smeel coming from there cranium.....natural is awesome bute synthetic is ok if you stay clean/self hygeine

UNITY!!!

On the hair boards the ladies who relax are the most kind and pleasant women. The natural hair women are messy and tacky and like to keep up a bunch of mess. Its like after some people choose to have their natural hair that its an invite for them to become a complete bitch.
Ahdree23 2 months ago

We stop relaxing our hair and we become something else?? i have to say that i don't have a problem with anyone "putting pressure" on black women to be natural. 99% of the time, the pressure is the other way around. the flack and ridicule that naturals get far far exceeds whatever relaxed heads get. probably fewer than 5% of bw are natural so why do naturals have to defend their position on anything? i don't throw shade a relaxed girls although i think weaves and the like are sometimes a pretty sad commentary on how blacks perceive themselves.
iwasborntobefly 2 months ago
You're so gorgeous!!! And yes, I completely agree. It's one thing to say "Hey, you can be a bit healthier if you try this..." or "Have you ever tried..." but a completely different, unnecessary thing to degrade someone just because they choose to wear their hair a different way. It's a lifestyle, yes, but it's also just a HAIRSTYLE. I forsee people arguing about hair being worn down or in up-dos next, and that's sad. People should be more mature.

i dont think anyone ever has the right to tell someone to go natural. unlike smoking, chemically treated hair does not harm anyone but the person putting in the chemical. i think so many people are pressuring others about their hair decisions simply because they are not as secure with their own choice, as they think. if a person really is happy with themselves they can be comfortable with anothers personal choice, no matter what it may be, which is something im not seeing.
torinakins 2 months ago
Yes, you are absolutely correct. Hair is hair, however it's worn. I've been ranting about this myself, not necessarily about natural vs. straight, but that we as a people expend so much energy on hair, when we need to focus on what is really happening in our country and around the world. Come on folks, wake up, if someone wants to wear straight hair, that is THEIR choice and THEIR hair. My dreadlocks are to my waist, but that is MY choice. NO one needs to do what I do. Peace.

I just hope everyone realises we all need to love eachother and support eachother whether we chose to keep our curls or get a relaxer.

mzzyumpop 2 months ago
I agree with you, its all in the delivery. I see that women that wear their hair in their natural state have been degraded for so long that it is almost a natural instinct to be defensive, or to persuade others to embrace what was given to them. The issue is also not helped by what some define as beauty, ie light skin v. dark skin, or long straight vs short kinky.
FRH900 2 months ago 14
i agree with you.i've seen many videos where relaxed ladies grew their hair very very long and it was healthy. just like naturals have a way for careing for natural hair, their are different ways for careing for relaxed hair. instead of bashing relaxed hair, help them by educating them on hair and if they still choose to stay relaxed then help them grow and maintain length by again educating them.
Dyicefulbeauty 2 months ago
Relaxed hair texture is still natural hair but the texture has been changed chemically. Pressed hair is natural hair but changed physically. They are all natural hair but different forms of natural hair. None is superior to the other. Different strokes for different folks. If we all wore our hair the same way hairstyles would be boring and they be no need for these videos.

I am in total agreement. Say your piece in love and kindness and move on. It is really all you can do. If a woman decides to stop processing her hair, she will AND she may just come to you for guidance and mentorship. Bash her and you may just love her forever. But no matter what her decision, it is HER decision. Natural or relaxed . . . her choice.

Sad.

i agree 100%... it happens both ways tho, i get ppl tellin me i look a mess n i needa flat iron or perm or simply weave it up n never show it. but naturals shouldnt behave that way.... its a hott mess!

They may later decide to go back to relaxing if that's what they prefer....and that should be ok too
Zimchick1 6 months ago 2

Otherwise I keep my mouth shut.

it's a personal choice. We can't go around like militants telling people what to do. I agree with you, kindness comes first.

(continuation) in any way we feel without worrying about what others feel about us, because it is all about positivity and celebrating our beauty

Omodada 6 months ago
I agree with LenaShowe. I'm natural, but I find that some naturals in the natural hair community are so defensive and sensitive, yeah I said it! Like every negative comment about natural hair sets them off. To me, if you're supposed to be executing confidence then snide remarks that people make shouldn't set you off. Sometimes I feel like taking a break from forums, blogs, etc. because of all the negativity. I wish people would stop being offended by choices others make with THEIR own hair.
