  • some great inforamtion here thanks

  • Just after 0:36...total Chris Isaak like "bridge" transition...i believe Del was one of Chris' idols along with Elvis and some of the other rockabilly / rock-pop cats

  • Have to find a new post for this. Even with my add-on stereo speakers can't TURN IT UP!!!

  • When I find this song a juke-box, it;s like winning the lottery!!!

  • Just like Bobby Fuller, gone way too soon..........

  • His howling at the end of this song echos through the years to this day. Wonderful.

  • cutt off all trade to Israel

  • I'm 36 always been a fan of Del I miss him so dearly and understand the pain he was in when he passed.I miss you Del ever so much:(

  • That crowd is weak lol. I'd be dancing!

  • best song i ever heard in all of my 67 years

  • I love this song and Del Shannon!

  • I was just a kid when he was popular but I remember him and his music. He was over shadowed by the beatles along with everyone else at the time. I was born in 1958 but I remember!

  • fantastic.

  • strange the beatles had a song Ill Follow the Sun i wonder if this inspired them

  • @carroj9 thats a nice analogy but ill follow the sun was written and released in 1964 not '65

  • Fabulous voice, and great song.

    Rest In Peace Del.

    Thanks,

  • God, This is greatest of all time. I get high and play this a million times. Cant sing, but guitar is note for note----- Thank You Dell! I'll miss you.------Tony!

  • Follow the Sun , yes, this man is greater than The Beatles etc...

  • Oopps, I mean to say to hide IN WAIT.....not die (god forbid)

  • Great song - tour of duty in Vietnam when this came out, which is very apprapoe...searching for a place to die IN WAIT....great song from a great artist.

  • Good song , he was a great talent .

  • Looking at this clip one can't help but notice a resemblence between the late Del Shannon and John Fogerty. Enjoyed the clip!

  • Del Shannon was the man! The way he ends this song with that haunting voice, is just the best. It will always resonate with me. Always. RIP.

  • God. Do I love this song. That's all I have to say. No, wait... it kicks total ass. There!

  • ... awesome! i'm loving it! It's fully loaded with music-quality that lasts about the next few centurys!

  • I grew up on the song back in the 80's

  • Del Shannon was a greatly under-rated song write and recorder,by the unknowing public but he had dozens of great songs he gave to others like Brian Hyland, he felt that pain but never that large fan base he had that loved him and that pain led to his killing himself,so very sad a great artist and he felt as if he was a failure,DEL we love and miss.RIP.

  • Wonder why they missed this off the BBC series sounds of the 60's when 60's TOTP footage is so scarce

  • I miss you so much!!!!!!!I--I play and sing all your songs--Your truly missed! Thanks for ever.--Tony

  • Look at the kids dancing, it was a messed up time, do i dress mod, hippy, greaser ? Girls do i wear a beehive , or short shag ,long shag or iron my hair l, Bell bottoms or straights? I was 15 then and played it safe and wore a button down collered shirt with straight legs and oxblood pennyloafers. Kinda richie cuningham look.

  • THANX DEL !!!

  • Wow, this is the history of white people

  • WOW...!

    Brunni

    (Street Corner Memories Radio Show)

  • I love you man!. You were the greatest. There will never be another like you. You left us way before your time. I hope God is looking after you. RIP Del, you still are the best.

  • great artist needs to be in the rock in roll hall of fame, what a talent...pure classic rock in roll R.I.P. Mr. Shannon.....1949sorful

  • I remember when this song first came out.I still lingers with me after all these years.Never get tired of it.I liked Del Shannon. One of my all time favorites. His songs always bring back fond memories of growing up.When I read of his death,it took something out of me.

  • One of Del Shannon's best hits ever. Del Shannon (1939-1990) was big in the early to mid-1960s.

  • one of the best in his time. I remember the best of the past with his sound.

  • Del Shannon, in this video, was a prisoner!

This is a mind control project, look at the dancers.

Del, never performed again before a British

    audience.

Even back then, 1/3 of all humans were brain

washed. And almost 1/3 were addicted to

    Mr Clean!

  • @fntime Hey man-I still sniff Mr.Clean after all these years.Still gives me a "GREAT" Buzzzz.. along with Pine Sol and ammonia mixed.Don't knock it till you try it!

  • Toda una leyenda

  • pure gold (:

  • 1:25... the face of an angel

  • the girls from that era ( my era) seem sooo beautiful. Why is that? Is it my imagination?

  • @phredhead Because they were!!! and they were naturally gorgeous. They didn't need boob jobs or botox or any of that crap. I wish I grew up in the 60's

  • @switchup81 careful bud... they`re in their mid to late sixties now

  • @phredhead Because they were! They didn't botox have boob jobs or any of that crap, and they had a better style and liked better music, and had different attitudes than the girls now do. I wish I grew up in the 60's.

  • @switchup81 We had strong morals back then. The 50s & early 60s unless you lived through them you could never really imagine how great they were, guess that's Y they're called Fabulous 50s. The British invasion did 2 our great groups & artist what Mexico, China & Japan did 2 our industry, destroyed them. Del was one of the very few that that survived the invasion. If only we kept America American U wouldn't have a need 2 say " I wish I grew up in the 60's" You have great mind my friend keep it!

  • @dowopper51 That is depressing.

  • @phredhead Not your imagination.Believe me.My era also.

  • 1:54 WOW!

  • i remember my sister brought "runaway" and "keep searching" back to vienna from her holiday in england - never to be forgotten, i still play it today.

  • @Ja14111948 No more holidays in the EU ,eh. A British friend of mine called his former country "England" home of the pagan socialists. I'll be in Italy this summer visiting my family hoping for better news.

  • This is such a great song. Del Shannon had a wonderful voice.

  • I had the same music publisher for a time and i saw him sitting in the office waiting for a meeting so i walked up to him and shook his hand and thanked him for all the great songs!!

  • Its guy's like Del Shannon that kept rock in America, hats off to Del!

  • This was my favorite song of his... heard it on the radio tonight and just had to hear it again...

  • @TheLuckylady54 I agree with you both ways.

  • You can tell this was England...the teens don't know how to dance

  • Comment removed

  • Do you know the Swedish cover-version from 1969-1970?

    (still in English language)

  • @fntime - What the hell is a "fuckin shinebox"? I can get a whack of sexy intimate pictures of myself with DEl Shannon. I'm totally unamused by your cutsie comments but sorry I don't buy into the 'lone gunman' theory. What gives you the credential as to pass judgment? From a psychoanalytic viewpoint just because there may be a history of chromic or even manic depression in a family tree doesn't prove by determinism that someone in that family will just pop off.

  • Depression runs in the Westover family line. It goes along with being so driven.

  • Comment removed

  • Dang...teenage then in the mid 1960's..now add 50 years and all of these pictures are in their late 60's and some in their 70's....but I bet they are better then than todays condescending/retarded music of today: rap that glorifies stupidity/gang violence, sexual violence on women and sexual perversion; no wonder why most minorities today have criminal records and STD's. Look at the young women today; dressing up like whores and into drugs/sexual perversion; have sex with as much guys.

  • @pgs5719 To be honest, there was sexual perversion, drugs and STDs back then too. It just wasn't discussed out in the open. The economic realities that force people to sell drugs didn't exist in latin america and other parts of the world. There's a genetic reason why European descendents don't get AIDS as much as minorities in America. The reason why there are more minorities incarcerated is largely cultural and economic.

  • All his songs were great, this came out in Dec.'64 and stayed on the tunelists in Cleveland,Ohio for maybe two month's. I guess 1965 couldn't handle it?

  • what depression leads too </3 sadly he killed himself

  • saw him live at the playroom tallebudgera so many years ago, was great then & still is

  • awesome song

  • "Runaway", "Little Town Flirt", "Keep Searchin'" all timeless pop classics.

Charles Westover (AKA Del Shannon) = LEGEND

  • Saw Del in Manchester at the Apollo with girls from Sale Grammar. Good days.

  • can someone upload conquer??

  • fantastic american song in the middle of the brit invasion

  • hes got good music

  • Super talent!

  • Some people might like to think that Del Shannon killed himself but I know different. His death was one of many others likek himself whoreally had no closure and was only ruled suspicious death for lack of more evidence. Very hard to blow your own head off with a shotgun. That didn't happen that way.

  • @dawnegolden I think, it's the 'Lone Gunman'

    theory!

'Now go home and get your fuckin' shinebox!'

  • Outstanding voice.

  • He has a face u could only see in America What !

  • Like runaway, this song was a very smash hit

  • Del, I remember the day you died. for all your music did to help my friends and I to bond as we listened, you didn't deserve the way your life ended.

  • It's so awesome to see all those good lookin young couples dressed up so nicely, listening to REAL music... :) R.I.P

  • What an absoloute foot-stomping monster but the crowd just DON`T know what to do about it !! Ahead of his time ?

  • Good gosh people....MOVE! You can dance to this ya know!

  • Nos hizo soñar con su musica y aun la admiramos

  • Classic!

  • So this is what you do you tube, when I prove you wrong as i often do, you cut me off. Well to hell with you Jack!"

  • being an ozzie the british invasion still rocks

  • that was a pretty good gig back then....almost all your TV performances were lip synced. It must have been fun to come out on stage, not have to worry about your voice, watch the crowds scream etc

  • Sorry that good man die so fast. What is wrong in sociaty when young man and talent kill himself? Wrong democracy maybe?? Frustration...Del give me strenght and hope and now his gone...sad...Excuse my bad english! I am a simple boy you think. But my Swedish språk är betydligt bättre!

  • Killer song! Sixties forever!

  • im 63 and del shannon was a great favourite of mine, gone but he was a great so he will never be forgotten.

  • @amyleigh02 I'm 58, and groove to all his tunes while working out on my "Tread Mill"

  • 60s standard....thanks for posting

  • I like this video, see young people dance on the Tv Show, was so good.

  • Keep on searching for those great oldies.

  • i i used to listen to his music as a teenager in the 60s still do love his music.

but has anybody noticed, every song he sang was sad, ive got more of his songs not even 1 is a happy one.

  • I`m still searchin....thanks for a great time in my life Majsan!!

  • Still love the Pops in the Sixties..

  • my number one del shannon song

  • this song is my favorite Del shannon song hands down

  • God I love this song. Miss u Del

  • seems like the dancers don't know what to make of it..

    zombies mostly

  • @pheildcorn right

  • Man, those Brits were like sticks in the mud. Here the have a rockin' song and they can't even dance right.

  • Saw him in Manchester, fantastic.

  • SOOOO good this.

This was late '64 though...by '65 the beatcraze has already put an end to this kind of brillant pop.

You learn something every day...I thought this was more early sixties.

This man is a true legend.

  • RIP Charles Westover aka Del Shannon

  • "How many other guys could hit that competently other than maybe Roy Orbison?"

Chris Issak, maybe. I'd like to hear him cover this song.

  • @Str8EdgeMotherFucker

go away back to your ghetto, punk street trash

  • always liked del shannon

  • I met the man. Absolute genius. Should have shot the bullet into someone that deserved it. Miss him the same as the lot. Godbless that man.

  • @Tonycrashed

should have shot someone else? when you crashed did you hit your head, there, Tony?

  • @ThisIsBilbo. What! You don't like Del i take it......

  • I saw him in the Ottawa, Kansas Auditorium a few months before he died. I lucked out and got to talk to him backstage. He told me that he was going to fill the late Roy Orbison's spot in the Traveling Wilburys and he was really excited about it.

  • @RogerReadingRainbow I heard the same thing. He would have been awesome in that band. So sad that he didn't make it.

  • Awesome singer, songwriter talent. I can't believe he committed suicide. Devastating.

  • del shannon was a great artist very very good god bless m8

  • Waldenpunk --> Rancid and metallica aint rock 'n' roll xD theyre just rock, or IDK about rancid.. it might be punk?

  • You can see by the set that even right in the middle of Mersey beat and the Beatles reign there was still a helluva lot of respect for this guy.

  • Yes, although a lot of people are standing with their backs to him. Sulky teens!

  • Rock and roll is still great! The Love Me Nots, The Urges, The Yum Yums, The Preachers, The Dolly Rots, Stupidity, Cheap Trick, Rancid, Metallica, The Chevells and The Maggots are all making amazing rock and roll!

  • metallica.... really? and the chevelles? im sorry but those do not belong in that category. butt rock to the max. and in no way can compare to the likes of others you mentioned.

  • It's ALL rock and roll, baby! punk, metal, power pop, glam, hardcore, death metal, bubblegum...its ALL rock and roll!

  • I meant that I miss a good singer!

  • One of the last year rocknroll still was music. Fucking close to the hippie ship.

    1958-64,65. Great

  • It´s so sad he took his own life!

  • @zaaritha :

it's neither bad, nor good. It was his decision and nothing that others should analyse ; )

  • @zaaritha Agreed! Stupid antidepressants! I wish I could see him perform still. He was so underrated, especially as a singer. Listen to that last note! How many other guys could hit that competently other than maybe Roy Orbison?

  • He was great...sad he's gone but I think that Runaway is the best single ever released

  • so great...he really looks like John Fogerty, also!

  • This is Awesome....So good!!!!

  • Now that is that shiznit.

  • 689321546 Go on thinking that way like i an Del Shannon not like Robert Jackson who promotes RAP & HATE. Well done my new friend. i enjoy your e mail to me. Del Shannon was tops and dont let anyone tell you sny different. But HATE is something even 20 somethings &20 NOTHINGS like RobertJackson should never promote. lets see what his defence is to that after attacking me. TOMKES doo wop/rocknroll historian & with pride 7 credentials

  • robertJackson let me straighten you out but GOOD. 20 SOMETHINGS who love RAP that inspires HATE MURDER DRUGS RAPE ETC are 20 NOTHINGS, If your son is one of those shame on YOU HIM for practicing such EVILs. Now ROBERT try to answer that charge in defence of HATE Del Shannon didn promote hate but LOVe. Now SHUT UP. TOMKES a man who knows his music & who knows a HATER when he sees one

  • long live greaser music , it was the best and still is

  • As the father of one of those 20-somethings, the reason they send you hate mail could be because you call their music crap. It was a easier for me to introduce Del Shannon to my kid and for her to make a connection between the `60s and today by not trashing her music and today's contemporary dress (whether or not I like it). Every generation seems to feel obligated to revere the one they lived in. I lived through the `60s -- and a lot of it wasn't, incuding some of the music, wasn't so good.

  • He was good!

    So sad he killed himself!

  • @zaaritha Hi zaaritha, can you give some info on Del? I know he died, but no idea how. Thanks

  • @paulibeva Hi Paulibeva, He had committed suicide. Sorry to say. He had great songs & style. RIP. bye, George NYC

  • @georplagian Thanks for the info.

  • @zaaritha He couldn't take singing oldies.

  • @zaaritha saw del in stoke..sad loss

  • @zaaritha

Most of my heroes offed themselves, and 9 times out of 10, there was a woman to blame.

  • dude wasn't afraid of the black keys. great stuff.

  • 689321546 bless You for your e mail to me. DEL SHANNON is topd. I been getting unimaginable hATE e mails from 20 somethings who knock me for these old classic sings. God rest your soul DEL , You gave us great music not the crap the junk the HATE i see in songs today. DEL SHANNON on of the TRUE GREATS of ROCKNROLL. LOMG MAY HE REIN. BLESS HIM FOREVER. TOMK rocknroll/doo wop historian

  • i grew up with all these greats (del) and hung out listening to his records , his songs will never die .

  • Give me those time the musci not like today words well I will say one thing for today RUBBISH But song from the 60S well some thing can say, you understood the words? Lets hope the 60 s stay with us for ever and one day the youth of today will understand them too ??? No foul word ect ect ect lol

  • Del Shannon one of the true greats of ROCKNROLL. We miss you man. im a rocknroll /doo wop historian. i lived those years. look at the S... we have today. rest in peace gentle giant. we will always love you. TOMK

  • so true ! these songs were so cool not like the crap we hear today .

  • Check out the way the kids were dressed! Not like today with their pants falling off and some raggedT-shirt.

  • I have to agree, the way the kids dress today is pretty bad. Really sloppy and just don't care about dressing better.

I guess the motto now is - anything goes. At least the kids back in the 60's had some respect for how they looked and dressed. Young women didn't have tattoos as they do now and guys then (in the 60's) didn't have their pants falling down, etc. .

  • As someone born in the late 50's one

thing that is not worse today, and is in

fact way way better, is the clothes and

the style, especially for guys, look at that

garbage we wore in the 70's, stuff people

wear is twenty times better now. Now rock n' roll, it ain't what it used to be though.

  • to tall65dude: yeah.....the decline in neat dressing, manors and good behavior started to die when the Hippy era came in. That blew the lid off everything.

  • These songs from the 60's are the best ever....this crap they play today is such s..t. How can they even compare it o the songs from back then???

  • guitars and keyboards sounded better at that time

  • May he rest in peace. Sad ending of a musical life.

  • Never noticed it before but he resembles John Fogerty quite a bit facially. They have a lot in common. Great rockers both.

  • rocking great song....singer today can learn from Mr Shannon

  • nice lookin gibson

  • Thank you for sharing!!!

  • what a gas of a song, bueatiful and the memories as well, Phew sends shiver,s down your spine, what a time to have endured and enjoyed, just magic every day back then, sure takes you back some to a more fun time on this earth, damm !!!!

  • beautiful song - special memories Ivan cruising the pod !xxx

  • Isn't this meant to be one of the earliest surving 'complete' Top of the Pops' performances? When it was shown in 2005 on TOTP2, they said it hadnt been seen complete for about 40 years.

  • Great video..the memories are priceless.

  • This is great -- thank you!

  • One of the best songs ever.

Del Shannon is an amazing US Rocker.

    Let's all follow the sun..................

  • I loved this song. So sorry to hear of Del Shannons sad death. He made great music and was a handsome man.

  • Another of Michigan's Finests!

  • One of Dels' best! Try hitting those last notes, it'll tear your throat apart!

  • You're not kidding! I'v been trying to hit those notes since that song came out in December of 1964. High school, 11th grade.

  • If as chopwin writes this is an out-take from Top of The Pops it would have been filmed in a BBC studio probably in London.
