should i buy a PC that has this processor with 6gb of ram and 1tb hard drive for under 500,main purposes are video rendering from a dazzle and playing fps games.
what a failure of a review... he doesnt even try to overclock to 4ghz.. of course this is MADE for overclocking thats why the voltage is so low!! noone cares about unlocked multi you should use fsb anyway...
Please tell me one more thing...I have an Intel Core Duo processor with 4 GB or RAM...I heard this is the MINIMUM amount of RAM to run the x64 version correctly....If I install it then, will my laptop become slower? Cheers
AMD CPUs have a much higher voltage. The 965, top of the line (currently) has a max voltage of 1.5V while Intel generally has smaller voltages. For AMD, this CPU is a breakthrough.
I have listened to your you tube videos many times. Always enjoyed them. I'm in the process of starting my own you tube videos and have been impressed with your level of professionalism with respect to the introductions and wrap ups. Is there a place online which I could find tutorials on how to produce a similar professional looking you tube presentation? Thanks in advance for your response.
When buying CPUs though there's one good advice you should remember. If you're going for the "big guns" and want max. performance, go with Intel. But in budget CPUs, AMD is better.
Very impressive cpu. Not for hardcore gamers or hardcore rendering, but it seems to be very good for casual gamers and home cinema applications. Judging from those temps you can throw on a nice and quite cooler without having to be affraid that it runs hot. Pricing has always been odd in cpu's, guess the manufacturing costs are not that different between mainstrain and flagship.
Hey PCWizKid i bought my HP desktop about three years ago and i recently found out that my AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ CPU is clocked at 3Ghz and running at around 65-70 degrees celcius but the max temp that AMD gave is about 63. I don't think that it should be clocked at 3Ghz but the motherboard is OEM so i can't underlocked/overclock and when i try upgrading my CPU cooler it does nothing because my motherboard won't let the fan RPM go any higher... Please help.
Those prices don't make sense to me. $10 more buys you a black edition flagship CPU. Or $4 less gets you basically the flagship with a lower stock multiplier (2 seconds in bios to up it.). I like my PII 720 BE and I would say for the money its the best buy. But AMD needs to get it together on the prices. Then again, those are SRP's and I am sure you'll find this CPU on sale soon enough for ~$150 USD.
It achieves this simply by lowering the voltage core. Just lower the frequency to 2.6GHz and V-core on a Phenom II X4 925 or 945 to 1.2 volts and you'll get similar results. If you want to stay at stock speeds while lowering the temps. and efficiency then lower the V-Core to 1.3.
oh well. looking at the purpose of the CPU i'd actually like to see how much power it needs and how well it you can undervolt it (TDP doesn't say anything).
unless you compare it with other CPUs game tests are kind of pointless because results mainly depend on graphics power.
i also want to note that the psu of your test system is incredibly oversized. ;)
@gagagogotralafitti , lets just say that I can confirm it uses 30 to 50 Watts less system power than your other Intel or AMD Quad Cores. The Gfx tests were to show that you can ue it for a gaming rig no problem. Despite the PSU being oversized since its a 80 plus efficient it does not actually utilize more than your 500W PSU in this test system, so no need to worry about that.
@gagagogotralafitti Actually at low resolutions, i.e. 1024x768, the CPU plays a much larger role in determining performance. It can be an effective way to show difference in game performance in CPU constrained situations.
PCWizKid - I have a Acer Aspire 5737Z and I'm running Vista Ultimate. It's the 32bit version but I guess it also supports 64bit versions...If I install the 64bit version, will it perform BETTER? What's the difference? Cheers
@hsavik, it will perform better for your multi-threading CPU operations and for 64bit compatible software if you have any. Otherwise there is not much difference for the average , casual user
