@jakesaintsrow123 im tellin ya. he bought it brand new from the lot in 85, and it had a 1.6. he was a mechanic and worked on it for years. i dont know shit about cars, but i really dont think it was an 84
1978-1980 Models had the Volkswagen 1.7l engine since the Chrysler 2.2l wasn't Ready for Roll-Out from factory ....but 1981-1990 Models had 2.2l chrysler built engines...1981-1985 Plymouth reliant K/aries K Had the optional 2.2l chrysler engine and 2.6 Mitsubishi engine
@jakesaintsrow123 the 1.6 replaced the 1.7 in 83 but was only available in manual trans. from 87 on, the 2.2 was the only option. he had an 85 1.6 with manual trans.
I think They Had the 1.6l Engines If you Had gotten a Manual Transmission version ...Those 1.6l engines were Out of the Talbot Horizon....2.2l Engines were better....so were 1.7l engines....Say...was his horizon any good? I still got my 78.. 1.7l VW....It runs Great
@jakesaintsrow123 he bought that thing totally stripped. no radio, no power steering, NOTHING. he loved that car. i think he put over 250k on the damn thing. he hated working on it, no room to do shit, and so many little pieces of linkage on the stick. i really liked it too. my sister, uncle, and cousin all had the late model Dodge omni with the 2.2. maybe 87-88. i cant find any for sale anywhere.
Oh yeah...I still Have my 78 Hatchback....LOVE it....144,000 Kms ..No rust...Paid 175$ for it....Interior is all Original To! I still see a few Others around...but there from the late 80s ....My Brother had an omni 87 2.2l auto...His was fully loaded...He beat the shit outta that Thing....And It Never Gave him an Ounce of trouble...It was great....It was Only junked because he was Just done driving it...It still ran....Good Luck on your search my friend....Try EBay as well....
@jakesaintsrow123 Its in fair shape, i think its an 87 or 88. I just saw another one it's an 83 that's light blue for $10 the roof is smashed from a tree!!
@sammyvick123 The 83, Is that in good shape other than the roof? Mine is a 78 and mine is light blue...is the roof on the 83 completely caved in and crushed?
Had one of these cars and loved it. Little pocket rocket with the 2.2L and 5 speed moved fast. Mine was a 1987 most likely the last year this car was worth the money I bought it for in 1991. Then in 1992 while in the Army in Louisiana I got hit from behind by a Cutlass Supreme and that was the end of this car. One of the best cars I have ever owned and the only Dodge car I would buy again.
thanks so much I LOVE THIS CAR AND COMMERCIAL you uploaded i noticed this had the same music and theme as the 1984 Plymouth reliant k commercial anyways thanks this is awsome 5/5 stars
When I was 13 or 14 my neighbors wife had one of these, and when she he needed help transporting cars he would always borrow me to drive the Horizon, I never told my parents. He was always the cool neighbor!!
