  • stupid f-king white people!

  • @deuhtsiv Stupid and ignorant comment - whats yer problem - people giving respect and paying homage to a great chieftain in admiration is stupid in your opinion? - what qualifies you to say something like that - is because you feel that because in some way that because people admire they aren't in touch or uninterested in the past or do you feel that you own it? - Do something of note and you will be noticed too - you owe that much to your argument and stop moaning - not very 'brave' is it!

  • a pilgramage to see morris,the hook-nosed jew?

  • this is a really cool video, im glad that there are still people who care for the history of the indians

  • THEY STARTED BLASTING OVER 60YRS. AGO..WHY SO LONG FOR A LEGEND.THIS IS OBSURED..FOR TASUNKA WITKA..

  • @christinecassin because only 10 people are craving this monument, the family of korczak , so there......

  • get those kraut volks out of America

  • did you know that 8 people can fit in his nose ?

  • ginger kids...

  • I think it is awesome that someone would even try to do something like this, makes you realize that people are starting to app. the natives. So Yahoo for the people who is making it happen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My only complaint about this monument is that nobody knows what Crazy Horse looked like, and this monument is being constructed in the image defined by a white European. I do give him credit for having a good intention (he is actually dead now). Still... not everyone is happy with it.

  • That is a gorgeous view from the top! I didn't know South Dakota could be so green.

  • Did you guys know that Crazy Horse is going to be the Biggest Monument in the WORLD when it is done getting built??! South Dakota is really going to be getting a lot of tourist's when it is done.

  • indian nation the real american!!!!!

  • cool memorial ! I bet you guys were tired !

  • crazy hair dude !!!!!!!!!!!

  • its not even done and people are still looking at it

  • woah ... they made a road? the last time i did it we had to hike up the hill on this little path of rocks and shit ... damn

  • I love this song.

  • I walked it about 10 years ago. Very nice.

The 2009 walk is on June 6 and 7. Google [crazy horse walk 2009] for the details.

Get started early in the day to avoid the biggest crowds. They get ten to fifteen thousand walkers over the two days.

  • Ive been there.... its really cool

  • CHALLENGE:

Count how many times host says "here we are"

  • Enjoyed that. Nice one.

  • Unless your full of it, of course. Its the net.

  • Never heard he was half-white, but like the guy says at the beginning of braveheart, history is written by the people who take over, not by some neutral third party.

  • Its amazing that whites and others are coming to see crazy horse after the way he fought to stop them. Now hes an amusement attraction. wish they would get it done. Whats with the Roughriders hat, must be saskatchewan folks!

  • Ya when its done it will be the largest rock sculpture in the world.

I live 3 miles from mount rushmore and 17 from crazy horse

  • crazy horse , sitting bull , geronimo , chief joseph , wolf robe - these people will never be forgotton. fighting terrorism since 1492

  • It is sad to see all the people promoting Islam and hate threaded through the Native American cause that are actually using us to promote their own agenda. In fact it is using the Native American to promote hate of the white man for their own purpose and that they hide behind our cause makes them cunning and worse than the white man we learned to live with.

  • im related to crazy horse as well. im also lakota sioux but too bad im from jersey

  • Hi, my grandma Effie Hill is Full Blood Indian. Crazy Horse Is My 4th Uncle. I Come From The Sioux Tribe. I'm Lakota, And Come From The Black Hills, South Dakota. My Native Name Is Oksheelahaska- for tall boy. I'm Recent Living In Kansas, With My Grandma Where We Do Native Dancong, And Speak Our Native Tongue. Thank You

  • Do you like the mountain memorial?

  • O.K first of all akicita1833, Crazy Horse did not want to be photoed, second of all, its Korzack's Vision, geeze.

  • that memorial is a crock. When I last saw it in the late 90's you could see anything you wanted to from the highway, and yet they want to charge people to go in and see it? Makes no sense. People who pay to go see something they can see from the road aren't very bright.

  • there's a lot to see inside..and you probably didn't learn anything from your trip, did you? there's a story being told there and you were too cheap to listen.

  • again, why would you want to, when you can see it from the road. Paying to get it, just isn't worth it at all.

  • well, you can see mt. rushmore from the road too but people still pay to get in. there's also the extensive indian museum of north america there, and the cultural center where native american's are selling their artwork and such, and there are constant demonstrations of native american dance in the traditional costumes. it's a real chance to learn about the culture and history about them from first hand people. it's not just a mountain carving, and a lot of people don't realize that.

  • ????? You don't pay to see Mt. Rushmore.

  • your a moron. :p

  • oh you're right, i thought the parking fee was like admission. well either way, since the mountain isn't a federal or state project, the funding comes mainly from admissions, as well as gift sales and contributions. so if there wasn't an admission fee then the mountain would be coming along much much slower.

  • @compwhiz2000 You pay to help the family to finish the project. You pay because of what he stood for. You pay because it is NOT about you. You pay because you can learn so much more. You pay to learn of the struggles the family has endured to build this monument. So you can sit on the side of the road slapping this family in the face and save your self a few dollars or you can be a small part of something special. I know where you will be dont I

  • did u stay at horse thief campground or the lodge at custer?

  • This monument does not look like Crazy Horse as he was half white. He had wavy hazel hair and eyes, light skin, was 5'7" or so ,145 lbs,no high cheek bones, long thin nose, that is not what a full blood Lakota looks like. Many contemporary descriptions of him survive to this day. This is not bad to say this,it is just the truth, though in films or monuments like this he will always be portrayed as a full blood, which is a lie and a dishonor to who he really was. There were many many 1000s of mixed blood

  • they should build a casino up there

  • "Here we are..." not said enough!

  • It is well documented Crazy Horse was half white, there are many contemporary descriptions of him. This monument looks like a full blooded Lakota,,,,not Crazy Horse

  • Crazy Horse wasnt half white

  • of course he was if the description of him is true ,there can be no doubt , its where his heart lay that mattered ,and thats for his mothers people

  • Where is this documentation that says Crazy Horse was half white? I would like to know because I am a native american woman who wants proof of that. I have lots of Lakota friends that wouldn't believe that for one second.

  • Ask his relatives today. Of course many modern day Indians are proud to be Indian and can tell you much about what that is like ,but as far as history goes, like most Americans, they generally know very little.

He was described by many people who actually knew him & the descriptions are all the same-

5'7" or so,145 pounds, long wavy auburn colored hair & eyes, light skin, long thin nose, no high cheek bones, this is a half white/half Indian. The truth does not take anything away from who he was

  • most likely his mother was raped by the white man

  • ImNotRacist " most likely his mother was raped by the white man "

NO ,most Indian people at the time period his mother conceived him actually liked most white people and none of the negative aspects of Indian/White relationships had begun as had later happened in the 1860s thru 1870s. Likely truth is his Mother probably sold herself to a white man for trade goods.

  • @ImNotRacistImBias no one has to rape 'anyone it is better to be free '

  • @Amelia424 - Agreed - I am white and not of America - I have looked at the history of Crazy Horse all over the place and for along time - Where is the evidence that Crazy Horse had a white father or mother? - or are too many people watching and believing the discovery channel. There is absolutely no evidence to support that stupid argument at all - of course I say this to the best of my knowledge but if that ere true - nothing could take from the spirit of Crazy Horse no matter what - admiration

  • prmass1, yeah, we probably won't get the land back. we are very proud on being the true conservatives. There are parts of this country we wouldnt want back anyway. Starting with nevada nuclear testing grounds and white sands new mexico. Having a memorial would be a start on a healing process that should of happened along time ago. Things will get better though.

  • Crazy Horse would NOT support this desecration of the He Sapa!!!!

  • You nor anyone else can say what he would think and its quite presumptuous of anyone to think so

  • Below: Mexican! No offense to our brothers but Tasunke Witko did not look Mexican. How do we know...because of family stories handed down.

  • Crazy Horse didn't look like that. Given they called him"curley"as a youth indicated he was likely part Mexican, and if I recall correctly, that is what he was there fore looking more Mexican than your regular Lakota.

  • The man who started the Crazy Horse monument was Polish. Did you know that?

I say it 'cause I'm from Poland too xD

  • He also worked a little bit on nearby Mt. Rushmore.

  • spirit in the sky

  • NAME OF SONG AT 4.00 MINS?

  • Spirit in the Sky

  • I worked at Crazy Horse: I've been on that arm many times. I used to drive people to the arm, let them walk around & take pics. I'm here to tell you what I know: some are ashamed of the mtn, as many believe Tasunka Witko would have been angry that whites (& Ruth in particular) are making money off his likeness. Many support it, yes. But many don't. Just because he said I will come back to you in stone didn't mean a mtn. And I know Natives aren't really welcome, no matter what you've heard.

  • how come natives arent welcome?

  • They are they are let in for free

  • Looks like there Lin you got your self pretty played out,but all in all that really looks like it was worth the long walk.

that just goes to show how people do care.If only every man and women was as thoughtful to others.

  • walking up to crazy horse is soooooo long! But it is really fun. i go there every summer

  • thank you guys!!! i never been there , one of my friend did. its awesome and incredible. thank you , again .!!!

  • Just as the Tribes of the northeren plains have never taken money for the broken treaty of 1868.

    How could they?

The Grass is still growing isn't it?

This land belongs to the people! Given freely by GOD! Not by some ridiculous, dishonorable, Government.

Only fools and criminals believe that they can "Own" something that they did not create.

  • @z8it nicely put

  • @z8it some indians didnt even believe that the land belonged to the people the used the land but it was not theres........

  • @z8it Hey, I 'own' my car and I didn't create it. Does that count?

  • What most non native people don't understand is life is about a process, a journey not a timetable. It will be "done" when it's supposed to BE. No need to go about this with the wrong strength and spirit. I'm proud of the Lakota for turning down the government help. Meanwhile our ancestors are listening and watching...I am forever grateful. Lakota woman

  • crazy horse is my 4th great uncle!!!!!!!!

  • pmk crazy horse is your 4th great uncle your lucky he was the greatest warrior of all , ita a good day to die more courage than ima\ginable

  • @pmkzero5 oglala lakota?

  • @pmkzero5 - What did they go by to make this Memorial of Crazy Horse?I heard that their were no pictures of Crazy Horse. The ones shown are thought to be another Warrior. Also a family who knew Crazy Horse said this photo is not him because for one he said Crazy Horse would never willingly pose for a Photo;because he believed the Spirit would be trapped in the photo. He also said Crazy Horse did not wear the Eagle Feathers;that he only wore a single feather, the feather of a Hawk.

  • @pmkzero5 - You must be proud to be related to such a legend.

  • SEGO thanks for the video,, THIS MONUMENT wont be done in your life time, it will be done for our childrens lifetime, just another ways for us native people to show our children, that native people care for our unborn ..onen ki wahi

  • For the record, the Crazy Horse folks have turned down $10 million twice from the US government to help out. They want to do it on their own.

  • They are too proud. They are never going to get the land back.

  • the goverment do not help the cheap basterds

  • wat up with carrot top

  • It's absolutely ridiculous how slow the pace of this construction is going. I saw this 30 years ago and not much has changed. Ridiculous!

  • ridiculous? really? there are 8 people working on the mountain..and it's larger than an egyptian pyramid..of course it's going a little slow but they do what they can, when they can.

  • @misslibbis Just the family is doing it because they don't want to pay for help, they want it to be privately owned and carved.

  • @SkylerCowley ...That is pretty inaccurate. I know the family. The government has offered them funding multiple times, but they have turned it down because they feel it's wrong to take money from the same government that oppressed the native Americans. Similarly, they do hire experts to work on the mountain alongside the family (whom I have also met).

  • its carrot top!!!!!!!!!

  • That thing will never be done in our life time , and the need to scrap it and change it before its to late . They still have time to change it over to Santa Anna's Moment so when these messicans finish taking over the USA by 2009

  • Don't worry, it will still look like shit when they go to see it! If they don't accept some federal funding, it won't even be close to completion at the end of this century.

  • That monument stands for the spirit if the Lakota and every other Indian. Taking money from the ethnocentric government that stole the sacred Black hills from the Lakota would be completely contradicting. The late Korczak, Ruth Ziolkowski the Oceti Sakowin and everyone else involved are making a very strong point that progress can and is being made without handouts. They have just received a 10 million dollar donation, I'm thinking they'll be fine.

  • I haven't seen Crazy Horse in about 20 years. The Face is coming along nicely, but this thing won't be done for another 60 years at this rate.

  • This looks very cool! I would love to do this some time. When did this happen? I will walk 500 miles great song to go along with this video.

  • could you do a stand video where you just stand infront of the crazy horse man and that's all.

  • that was very interesting. how long was the walk ?

  • The walk was 10 KM or about 6 miles

  • Thanks. Looked like a fun but a somewhat tiring at times walk.

  • @Hrock22 I'll wait for the movie to come out.

  • Crazy Horse really is a remarkable monument...i will never forget it....Mount Rushmore fits on Crazy Horses head...I actually got an autograph from Ruth Korczack, the wife of the mastermind himself

  • Cool video! Went up saw Mt, Rushmore 17 yrs ago they were just out lining the mountain for Crazy Horse, it sure takes a long time to carve that stone!

  • GO Riders GO!!

  • A saskathewan Roughrider fan!

  • That's one GINGA!

  • nice trip..

  • is there a timetable for completion?

  • not really cuz its hard to tell because the guys family who's making it turns down the federal funding but compleatin in about 100-200 years away

  • Very interesting! Thanks for posting. Hard to hear you voice above the music, though. :)
