put linux on it and im sure it would be great.....i mean i wouldnt pay 400 bucks for a device that only runs one app at a time and only has 4gb storage..oh wait thats the ipad
Okay, guys. About iPad vs other tablets. iPad has bad hardware, but it's so smooth to use. You can't do all the things that pc (or other tablet for that matter) can do, but the things you can do, work REALLY well. Hardware isn't everything. And for the people who want "real" OS, sure, buy this or similar, but they wont be as smooth to use as iPad with its "half-OS". It's of course the ones opinion wether to buy this or iPad, but if I'd buy tablet, it'd be iPad.
It's the question of if the IPAD can run like an OS...IPAD was built for simplicity and finger friendly...I got a Lenovo tablet before I got the IPAD and using WiN7 with your finger is not as easy and enjoyable as the IPAD. With the IPAD lock-In issue is just Steeve Jobs control freak ways. Jailbroken IPAD open windows to more freedom like multitasking and accessing IPAD file systems.
As for what will "beat" the iPad... you're talking about an Apple product.
They may make crappy, sub-par, overpriced hardware, but they're also wildly popular, and getting increasingly more popular because most consumers don't know that Apple technology is inferior... they just know the brand name.
...and, as long as that's the case, nothing is going to beat iPad at the popularity game... but on a technical level, iPad's been beaten 10 times over by devices that were released far before it.
@CoolsPlosed So you're assuming that it was canceled because W7 on a tablet is impractical?
XP has already been proven to be extremely practical as a tablet-based OS, especially with specific touch-operated software... and the only drawback was that multi-touch didn't exist on XP tablets. Now that W7 incorporates this, that's the only thing holding it back.
Your statement is very unsupported, and opposite logic suggests you're wrong.
@CoolsPlosed Dunno... and honestly, the answers would be nothing but moot points to inject since Windows XP has already been confirmed as a very highly practical tablet OS, and W7 does nothing but improve on it.
The only backdraw I see here would be that they used the N270 instead of the N450... either way, it results in something significantly more powerful than the iPad, that also has much more memory, way more storage and is an overall better value than the highest-end model 64GB 3G iPad.
@CoolsPlosed If anything, I'd suspect they canceled because of how M$ likes to screw manufacturers over on forcing W7 Starter so consumers have to throw down an extra few hundred more for Premium/Pro/etc.
Anyone in the know has already seen the reports on how well W7 functions on an optimized Lenovo/Asus EEEPC tablet, and I doubt this would be any different.
@DJTEVAdotCOM Features-wise, the iPad was surpassed ages ago. In fact there were a few running Win98 about 10 years ago- and that's a _FULL_ Desktop OS capable of running a billion and one applications... XP ones have been about for years too. Including a full office suite and no vendor lockin (you can change OS, you can run whatever programs you want- whereas with the iPad you can't).
Style-wise, I'll concede the iPad gave the world of tablets a huge kick up the arse.
looks reallu unresponsinve, when you pinched the picture, it took a second to zoom in, I'm not an aple fan boy, but when I've used a touch or iphone, the multitouch is instant, on PC based tablets, the touch interface is never really very fluid or instant.
Also, the fact that the windows pointer stays on screen when using a touch interface is really off putting.
NEVER let the music play while you talk....it ruins the video. Many people make this mistake

Finally, something with a real OS.
I've been waiting for something that's actually practical, and not just dickin around like the iPad.

@TLRtheory
Windows 7 on a tablet is far from practical, pal.
Why do you think HP cancelled theirs?

So why did they cancel it? And why did they buy palm? and why did HP themselves say that they weren't satisfied with windows 7?

like the touch phones...there's gonna be a load of ipad wannabe's clone before there's one that will surpase the ipad.
