To be true, I know only two versions from Charlie Parker of that tune, made in studio for Norman Granz and Verve. I picked up and arrange by myself. I respect the omnibook and his author, but sincerly, if I had an advice to give to somebody who is found of Bird and others, forget these solos-books, and pickup by yourself. p.s.: I'd be glad to hear live sessions with Parker of "Au privave"
wow. I love this song! It's an audition piece for jazz band this year. I love it soo much (especialy since I know how it goes now). I'm really gonna practice this one.
I have another one to do as well. It's called Ceora. I found something (not the best video), but I still don't really get how that one goes.
really amazing. well, I can play that, but in a sax section, it should be more difficult, I think. but I would like to try, it's sure !! I love to play in a big band or a sax quartet.
I play from the omnibook myself, and whenever I encounter an error, I just correct it (white fluid, black pen). Good exercise too :)
In the end you'll still want to compare yourself with the recording. In my opinion the omnibook is a great way to get your hands and mind around Parker.
I have this on record played by Cannonball Adderly, Wes Montgomery, Victor Feldman, Ray Brown and Louis Hayes. Cannonball Adderly and the Poll Winners is the title. Worth looking for. Wish somebody had a video of this.Cheers!
It is not unisson, but four part harmonised with baritone doubling lead alto (traditional saxes tutti in close voicings). Sure, it takes time to work that music.
I bet that was fun to do.

this type of song shouldn't be played by 5 horns at once
too much articulation is needed that cannot be supported by that much noise

forget "omni book", full of mistakes. Pick up Bird by yourself, you'll play it much better.
