Though we know his stuff is manufactured by Fender according to his own specs, it doesn't say Fender anywhere. It just shows his power in the music industry: one of the most traditional brands doesn't have its name shown on the stuff they make.
Dave does not sound good.Probably my favorite band of all time, great stuff with dave and sammy... That said, not sure if id want to see them at this point in time. Would ruin my fond memories of the shows i saw when they were younger.
Always loved the old live versions of this tune but in this case it seems very disjointed! Alot of the finger in ear biz from Dave seeking inner tone levels! It must be a very frustrating thing to creat a tune 25yrs ago and then not be able to recreate it 25 later!!! But after all that they still blow my freaked my mind!!!!!
i firmly believe this tour dave has sang the best ever. i also believe maybe he was straining himself or losing his voice in this vid, it does sound bad lol. at the cleveland show he sounded great. find any vid from the cleveland show then watch any solo thing hes done in the past 10 years and the difference is as obvious as night and day. this is so much better, but this vid is just a bad example of how hard he worked to put on a great show
Yeah, you're right, the guitar tone should sound a lot better on a camera phone's microphone.....What has the world come to when we expect quality from such low grade shit.
Damn, I really love VH and Roth, but I agree, this was painful to watch. It saddens me, because now I know I'm officially getting old. These guys were so great in their day, but that day has passed.
I experienced no pain. So he couldn't hit the highest notes, but it still sounded more than good enough to make it well worthwhile... BTW, my fav song on the set list.
If I'm out to lunch, you're leaving the tip because you're wrong. The DLR era may have had more fans but it doesn't make them better, nor does it make you right.
I'm the biggest VH fan there is, Eddie is the reason I started playing guitar 20 years ago. I'm sorry but this hurt my ears, Dave should go back to being a lounge singer in Vegas and Eddie needs to patch things up with Sammy because I believe he inspired Eddie to be a better musician and song writer.
dave sound good
remmeber folks its been recorded on a phone.

Man, poor Dave sounds awful...

Dave should get ear monitors so he doesn't have to stick his finger in his ear to hear his singing.

what happened to eddie's mini gibson he always used for this song?

He won't play a Gibson, or anything that looks like one, while his partner is Fender.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Don´t come to europe with this fancy style.
Or don´t come at all. We remember a hell of a band called Van Halen.

I was at the Cleveland show. I agree he sounded like or close to the old Dave. He seems to have to strain to get the high note.
This may post a problem on tour. I think they are pushing their luck on this tour. Too many dates, too old. Nobody get me wrong,VH fuckin' rocks!!!!

What I mean is it was great until the end, when Eds tuning went far south/flat sharp /North.
The back-up vox lack enthusiasm.
Dave is flat on the 'sing to me.'
Ed isnt playing the changes exactly like the disc version.
the end is really ugh .
You know Timber, the more I watch, the more it is bad ...the tunes end .Ugh I cant take it .

yeah, it's a bit rough on youtube, but when you're actually there it sounds a lot better. or maybe you're just more forgiving when you're there.

Don't be an asshole, with your music brains!
We know ed's guitar was out, but the show must go on......Cockface!!!!

Tin ears work well if youre a record executive.
They arent as bad (in my opinion) as you say.
Capared to the version from the Us fest.
His tuning wasnt set for whammy stuff, he used the tremolo and paid the price.
DVincentW 4 years ago
ouch, i hear what you mean. but that's a killer scream roth does at 3:18

So, you think it sounds like VH1?

What a drag...Ed's tone sucks, his guitar is out of tune and Roth can't sing...bummer
