  • @becki9871 Good luck! :)

  • It is so moving to see such a committed, kind and dedicated teacher. I hope to see one of his classes some day. Does he still teach at Chet's?

  • Great vid. :) I'm going there next month for an exchange through my school vcass (music school in Australia) very good.

  • Check out my rendition of Zorro's Theme!

  • Oh god. I'm going to Chetham's tomorrow for a piano festival. :/ xx

  • that's so true what he says round 5:37 lots of people are shy about expression.

  • im a drummer and i love it .

it was said to my u have great feel .

im a metal funk / rock / punk rock guy .

there all very good at playing

  • The girl playing at 18.50 is left handed or not? maybe the camera shot is via a mirror?

I am LH and at my first violin lesson (40 years ago) I picked up the bow in my left hand thinking correctly that the bow arm produces the sound.

You actually play the violin with your bow arm and hold it with the right hand.

Playing lefthanded is more foreign now than playing righthanded was then let alone the construction and restringing of the instrument. I think Paul McCartney plays LH guitar?

  • They panned to a mirror at the section you mention.

  • I know a man with his two sons at Chethams . . . Utter brilliance !

  • I think Maria is really pretty, and her reserved manner makes her prettier.

  • Pedo. Don't worry tho, she'll be about 35 now with saggy boobs and a couple of kids. Ah, biology...

  • DONOTTAWAGUITAR BLUES RIFFS

  • music is the best you can get in the world, I have done studies with music..I love it

  • I keep watching this i wish i could have gone! =(

  • check my guitar riffs out for deinspirationization

  • Very interesting to see a documentary about this school; I'm starting there in September. Gives me more of idea about the expectations. Thanks very much for uploading.

  • i really like the concerto they were playing

  • does anyone know where i could buy this? or where to find parts 2 and 3? thanks =)

  • I feel sorry for the girl who feels like she's been forced etc., the kid with the glasses seemed to speak a lot of sense. It was quite a surprise, considering how good she sounded, that there was talk of her not having a career in music, being nervous on stage etc. I'm lucky to have always had the free will, the downside being I only started at 16, anyway I said some of this in my last comment so I won't waffle! This video really shows the demands of modern professional musicianship, it's scary!

  • Blimey that teacher is demanding! Wish I was good enough to go there, though I've done all my GCSEs etc. anyway :S hehe. Wish I'd started early like these must kids have done, I only started discovering music properly when I started college, it seems too late to make anything proper out of it :( and my violin teacher obviously thinks so :/

  • I feel kind of like that too, like i only started violin at 9 and now i am 16 and i would LOVE to be good enough to go there but i am nowhere close. But it is definately not too late for you to make anything proper out of it. You don't need to be professional level to make anything out of it. As long as you enjoy it it doesn't matter.

  • Hey, thanks for the kind words :) the lucky thing is I've never and will never have the urge to play professionally! I guess it's just the personal goals, and there's so much to playing it right, so much to take in, and now my lessons are only every month or so as well! Haha, don't worry about starting at 9, I'd say that's a great age! 7 years earlier than me, which is a long time, I don't think starting at 6 etc. is essential to being an excellent, excellent player, ay all!

  • I agree that you don't have to start really early to be an excellent player. I am doing some music theory at the mo and i was wondering how a 6 year old could learn it cos it isn't easy at all... Soon i'm gunna start learning the cello, it is something i really want to do. It doesn 't really bother me that i am starting quite late, although i can't find any books for beginners which aren't really childish! So you were 16 when you started violin?

  • Hey that all sounds good, the cello's great! Are you not looking for a teacher for it then? I know what you mean about childish books haha, I start playing when I'm 16 and have to chew through tunes called things like 'The Crunchy Cookies' hahaha! Yeah I did begin then, I'm coming up to 19 now, not even half a decade of plating yet! Hehehe

  • In my opinion, i really don't like this teacher.

  • GOOD SCHOOL OF MUSIC ;-) I finished LITHUANIAN music school ;-) I saw the same i see here ;-) Music schools are only in Great Britain, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, And few other countries... :-) Its strange but true.....

    Very Beautiful !

  • lolll, the brass department are so much better=P its all about cso back row=P

chets is awesomeeeee=] but alot of work

  • I adore this teacher! Wish I was good enough for music school.

  • wow, I am already learning lots by just listening to how the teachers conduct classes and get students to play their best.

  • He seems like an amazing person. Very kindhearted and geuninely caring, not to mention it's apparently that he truly loves teaching.

  • i want to go to chetham's its a great school for music

  • Brilliant, very informative video.

What a hard work it is to be able to play this beautiful instrument!

  • 7 years for begining and continuous work every day ;-) Its like playing basketbal.... miss one training and you are in backwards progress :-)

  • what's the piece that Rakhi played?

  • Rakhi was so cute! One of the most talented young musicians I have ever seen!

  • I've just been to the Summer school for pianists at Chets, and it was fantastic. Great atmostphere, great pianists playing every night, such as Peter Donohoe, Simon Roscoe, Graham Scott, Murray Mclachlan. And of course great teaching. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the pianos were brilliant. I recommend anyone to go there! Russ.
