For all of you trying to figure out what Teddy is holding, its irrelevant. You have to stop thinking like a card player for a second and think like a movie maker. The final scene is a mirror of the Chan/Seidel scene that Mike was fixated on earlier. Mike's play was the same as Chan's at the end. Chan beat Seidel because he knew he always bluffed at the river and waited it out. Mike did the same thing with Teddy. Teddy could have been holding rags. Mike beat Chan and used Chan's play to beat KGB!
never understood waht grandma was so mad it in this seen it was not his money he was just a hired stooge should not have been nothing personal to him but whatever i guess he was mad a worm hell idk
@foolioperez There's no way for you to know that, but let's say he did. Mike checks it all the way down giving Teddy not one but two chances to fill up??
@LakerGold24 Look either its a set or a two pair... Kgb's pot bet on the turn signifies he has strength. Mikes call of kgb's pot size bet gave the notion that mike was on a draw 45 suited. Thats why he jammed on the river when the ace hit assuming that mike possesed a busted straight draw...A10 for kgb
@foolioperez A pot sized bet on the turn signifies strength?? Why would he bet so much if he had a set? Don't you think he would wanna make sure Mike stays in the pot and not scare him away?...... I see bluff the whole way through but oh well, agree to disagree I guess.
If Teddy was playing 10's , he'd want to give McD pot odds to stick around with either an overpair or something like 10 9 suited . Either of which McD could have open raised with for 2xBB. If McD flats, Teddy has a fair read on where he stands because he thinks McD is playing aggressively and would come over the top with an overpair which would allow Teddy to get it all in with the set. If McD is drawing and misses, Teddy has built a decent pot on the turn.
@foolioperez Also why the hell would he shove on the river if Mike missed his staright. You're only gonna get called with an all in on the river if you're beat so what's the sense or advantage?
what i dont get is if mike had 30 g's in the beginning of the movie why he didnt just take that to atlantic city and play with the doctors and lawyers to win even more
This is so weird. Why does grama want KGB to finish Mike off so badly? If Mike gets paid, Gramma gets paid. Oh my God, I just got 15 grand! I'm so mad I'll just flip this chair! And why does KGB act as if the last hand will determine whether Mike lives or dies. Mike's stack is like three times bigger than KGBs. Even if he folds the hand, he would still have enough to pay off Grama.
@tlcambell Grama lost KGB as a partner if Mike pays back his loan. KGB is a big time gangster and grama is a piece of crap low baller. Grama doesnt get to be big time anymore once this loan is resolved. KGM was acting shitty towards Mike to rattle him and to make Mike play worse and with scared money. Physical stack sizes are irrelevant, it is the chip values that matter. Where Mike does have KGB covered I doubt it was by that much.
@NicksVideoDiary Grama wasn't upset after Mike won 10 grand from KGB and was on the verge of paying Grama back. If Grama wasn't upset then, why is he so upset now? The conditions of the KGB/Grama partnership are never clearly explained. All we know is that KGB bankrolled Grama. Since nothing is explained, we're left to fill in the gaps for ourselves. Why are you assuming that KGB will continue his partnership with Grama if Mike loses? If Grama can't deliver, why keep him around?
@tlcambell Worm states in the movie that "kgb has plenty of goons under his flag why would he back you gramma?" grama replys that KGB wanted to because KGB hated worm. this is how we know he was only in with KGB for this deal. I think that grama needed more time to solidify himself in KGB's outfit before the deal could be resolved. That is just me reading between the lines and trying to understand the outburst at the end by grama.
@NicksVideoDiary It makes sense that Grama would be upset if he thought that Mike's loss would allow him to remain with KGB until the debt was paid off. This might give him a chance to show KGB what he can do in this kind of situation. So I agree with that part of your interpretation. However it still doesn't help make sense of what's going on in this scene. It doesn't explain, for example, why Grama wasn't upset when Mike beat KGB in the first round and was on the verge of walking out.
@NicksVideoDiary That makes sense that he was trying to rattle him. You're right, physical stack sizes don't matter. The black and green chips are worth $100, and the light green are worth $25. I'm not exactly sure what the brown chips are worth, so it is POSSIBLE that KGB had more money than Mike. Suppose the brown chips are worth $500 each. Then, from the looks of things, KGB and Mike are about even. The point, however, is that Mike could fold his hand and easily have enough to pay back Grama.
Poker in any given tournament can be won by the worst player..Lets look at the wsop main event winner in the past. Joe Cada- Consider to be the luckiest player EVER. The runner up was this hill billy Darvin Moon, that didn't even understand the game. Darvin Moon survive his A Q VS A K to phil ivey.
How about Jamie Gold-was consider the DONK AND A FISH in tourney and cash game. thus, got a sick runs of good cards in the main event.
@vanthiectu u are wrong Moon didn't survive with that hand.. He was the big stack in his table and ivey pushed all -in he just called it with like.. the 2/12 of his stack
When I first saw this movie in the theater, my first reaction was this movie is AWFUL. Its only good if you don't know much about poker in the real world.
The story line especially and the charactor(mike) is hilarious. He took all his savings, tuition fees, etc. to gamble with the mad mob(teddy KGB)cus he got sooo confident, because he bluff Chan with rags, after sittin and playin tight for hours. Then he let his degenerate, gambling thieve(edward norton)borrow unlimited amount of money under his name
KGB had Ace-ten in this hand, so no, he wasn't bluffing throughout the hand, he had top pair, top kicker. When the ace came on the river, he thinks he has Mike beat because he rivered top-two pair, and he thinks Mike missed his straight draw, and is now pot-committed into the hand. This is why he shoves all-in, because Mike can't possibly call with his missed straight draw, therefore KGB would bring in Mike's committed chips. When Mike flips over the made straight, he catches KGB by surprise.
@GraemeM32 I think the final hand is the mirror reflection of the first hand. Teddy smooth calls a raise with AA flops the nuts, slow plays it and gets Mike to bet a strong hand. Mike's hand improves to the point that he thinks he can get it all in and scoop the pot only to be shown the nuts. This time its the same thing only reversed, showing Mike can play a seasoned pro on a high level. Of course in this movie I'm finding its a mix of poker theory and theatrics.
@lurgertor Yeah, that's a definite possibility as well, there's been a lot of talk about whether KGB had Aces or A-10. Personally I think he had A-10 but Aces is a definite possibility as well. And yes I agree, while this is a good poker movie and does try to keep it to the fundamentals of poker, there is a bit of theatrics that is thrown in because, well, it's a movie. I think if you pause it at JUST the right time when KGB throws his cards, you can see a ten flip over. That's why I think A-10.
@GraemeM32 So if he thinks he's on a busted straight draw why shove instead of checking or value betting if he doesn't think he's getting called. You make no sense you $1 sit and go nerd
@thebigmacross Cose he don't belive Mike. Mike told he's on a straight draw but KGB's expecting 10 7, 10 6, 7 6, 10 A maybe - strong hands but not enough for his trips (4.25-4.26 you can see 10s&10d flying out of the table on Mike's right). He don't think Mike's got AA because of a small preflop raise and he, well, is hoping that it's not 89. In such situation - he's expecting 2 pairs, he can't just check and let Mike see his cards - he continues raising pretending bluff or A 10 hand, i think..
the real sick part is on the riv. if KGB put Hero on a SD. then he would check all SD IP. air cant call a shove. therefore KGB must have been bluffing w/ air to get Hero to fold a T9, T8, 78, 79 type hand. if Hero had those hands. he could hero call.
my theory how Hero ended w/ 60k is at the start Hero told KGB he could reload any time he wanted. therefore KGB always reloded to cover Hero
How does he turn 10 into 60??? Walked in with 10, doubled up to 20, then doubled up to 40. Where does the other 20 come from?????
And by the way, in the real world, that check cashing place would have kept a percentage for themselves, so he wouldn't have 10 to begin with.....I'm just saying.
Grandma the retard doesn't even realize that he doesn't get paid if Mike doesn't win.
