Beautiful car man, that's so cool to see one exactly the way it was back in the day. I have a near identical 81 z28 I'm trying to restore with my pops, and when I'm done it's going to be The same paint and decals as yours. Hopefully if funds are available, I'm going to stroke my 350 to 383 with a comp cam, aluminum heads, holly carb and a few other parts. Good vid, nice job.
That Z-28 would be better off with an LS-6 swap ! 450HP to the rear wheels and around 20 mpg ! 170 hp what the hell was GM thinking, A great looking car with no HP lousy performance & poor fuel economy?
@ruwithlee1970 I would assume it was a desperate attempt by GM to keep a popular car around during an oil crisis that was threatening the Z28 and cars like it. Late 70's through the 80's = not the brightest moment in the American automotive industry's history.
If i had this i would either swap the engine with a new Turbocharged 2.0 if i wanted to get rid of pointless WEIGHT and get around 20mpg more and the same or better performance,or new camaro's 3.6 V6 with Turbo if i wanted great performance and great MPG.
This V8 thing could be great when released in 79 for a 5.7 or whatever but in 2012 we live it's a tired gas hungry 10MPG highly pollutive heavy inefficient 170hp garbage, that might have 280ft lbs torque but still the same as a 30MPG Turbo 2.0.
Beautiful car,i just can not believe how ignorant some people are comparing this car an American heritage to some Japanese and specially Korean products!
I have a 74 dodge dart with a junkyard 318 that screams and dont know why but the 0 to sixty vids on here seem to pale in comparison, idk, its on my channel if anyone would like to comment i would like some input as to why, its not a built engine, just a dodge i reckon!!!!
@LimitPushing Yeah, it's enbetwen about 7.3 seconds and 7.9 seconds... if you don't believe me paste this after the utube in the URL /watch?v=-OwYu5prmz0 :)
@smamsp Neither of those cars can make it to 60 in under 8 seconds. I know for a fact the Odyssey can't because my family has one too. Keep in mind the power to weight ratio of both vehicles you listed.
@LimitPushing Ok, I trust you... But I understand this is a lot more attractive than a van and more expensive... back then :P (And I do think they can do 0-60 in under 8 I saw a 203 Honda Odyssey do it in 7.9 seconds lol, don't know if it was all stock...)
@smamsp 79 camaros really are not that expensive, that year was not very fast because of low power due to pollution laws. and this car was designed over 32 years ago and has 32 years of use on it
@smamsp i own a stock 92 f150 with 198hp if that now cuz of the miles it does it in 6flat cuz the govner cut off and i beat the 06 charger in a 1/4mile
@cobra5405@cobra5405 A stock 92 F-150 has 145-150 HP if it has a the 300, 185 HP for the 302, and 200 HP for the 351W. A 0-60 run will take around 8.5 -10.5 seconds. If you beat an 06 Charger, it must've been the 2.7L model.
@smamsp you can't compare a modern vehicle to a smog restricted 1979 vehicle. my 1995 buick roadmaster is probably faster as well but it has a (relatively) modern Chevy LT1 350 motor.
I own a 81 z-28 with the same color (see my video) and i have so much fun with it, its amazing. I hate it when people compare these cars to todays. First of all, it was a totally different era back then and second their wasnt dozens of different car manufactuers like there is now. Cars are made as fast as possible today cause of the growing population. These beauties will always put a smile on people faces cause it reminds them of their youth. Long live the second gen camaro's and trans am's.
@ahdnaji i dont know wat faggoty ass country you came from but corollas are a piece a crap girls will dig a nicely set up AMERICAN muscle car over jap crap any day
To the idiot talking about how great Japanese cars are. Growing up we had a '79 Honda Civic. That thing was a 53 horsepower embarassment. You obviously don't know what you're talking about. A hole finally rusted out in the bottom of it (when it was only 7 or 8 years old) that became so big you could fall through it. When we got out of that Civic and into a Chevrolet from the same period, it literally felt like we were stepping into a luxury car.
@AlexanderRozhenko Well times have changed. The opposite is true today, the civic from '79 and the civic from today are totally different. While neither one is a real performer as a stock car, I think the Japanese can be commended for their great strides in automotive innovation.
@SteezfulE Sure, they may be slightly more reliable but I have a 2007 Nissan and a 2010 Toyota right now that really aren't any better than the domestics I've owned. Yes, they break down too. Quelle surprise! Bottom line: I've drove lots of cars from lots of companies, and except for minutiae and improvements from generation to generation, they're all pretty much the same. The biggest difference is the hyperbole in branding and marketing and how brainwashed people become by listening to it.
@AlexanderRozhenko Oh no doubt man, everything in this world today in marketing and branding (look at the new tC..). Just saying that imports have come very far is all! But I totally agree with you.

@cbsctomh im pretty sure theres WAY more plastic in a japanese car than this... and as far as being spacious.. its a mother fucking boat... but at the same time fun to drive... the only reason the japanese cars caught on was the smaller engine and better gas mileage...
@cbsctomh Lol are you fucking serious? 79 is about when muscle cars started getting slower, but I'm sure it would still wax the average 4 banger. And plastic? My 86 camaro has almost no plastic. Where almost all japanese cars are probably about 50% plastic. Not to mention the "shoddy worksmanship" comment. There's a reason you still see 79 and older muscle cars on a daily basis, but the import earlier then 86 is almost non existent.
