I'm running a 3.0Ghz Core 2 Duo and a Radeon 4770. Been looking to upgrade either the CPU/Motherboard or the Video Card in the near future. What's the consensus on which of these is the bottleneck? I like adding lots of post processing things like AA, if that makes any difference.
@spnarticus Well considering Skyrim is a heavy console port, it relies quite heavily on CPU. The reason for that is because consoles tend to have a lot of CPU Power and lack the power of GPU. It's almost the exact opposite on PC's. For Skyrim, your FPS will drop a lot due to CPU, but that doesn't mean that your GPU has nothing to do with it. Honestly, if you want to see a huge performance increase in most to all games, upgrade your video card and just over clock your CPU.
Check out "Serious HD Retexture Landscape Skyrim" on the Nexus, it's awesome. Some of the textures are very photorealistic, and there is no noticeable performance loss from it at all. :)
@RalphCQ Yeah I was checking it out, but before I got it I wanted to figure out how to get my game running at 55-60 FPS average and I did. I'll list the exact settings in the Nvidia control pannel to use in order for amazing performance with little to no graphical change.
I'm getting the Landscape mod now ;) Uploading a new vid tonight probably.
@RalphCQ What CPU are you using? I installed this mod last night and I noticed a pretty big frame drop. I am running an AMD Phenom II 980 overclocked @ 4.3Ghz - I also didn't notice much of a difference in the landscape except for the rocks~
@RalphCQ I tried both - somehow everything went all wonky. I re-installed the game an now it great again! After playing video games for over 25 years, this game is the best thing I have ever played.
@BRIDOGG19666 Also, if you've got 3-4gb or more of RAM, get the 4GB Skyrim fix too. Having 1gb or more of vram on your graphics card(s) is also a must, for all these extra textures.
I also stopped using the "Serious Retexture" pack, overall, it didn't make much difference over just using Skyrim HD.
Playing on easy mode? FTL

@SCWolf Yeah I ended up dropping the "Serious HD" mod... really no noticeable difference over Skyrim HD, which is awesome already.

@BRIDOGG19666 I've only got a Phenom II X4 820, actually. Not overclocked or anything.
I got the 1024 textures, not the 2048.
