just to say it --you don;t haveto be monster size to be the best. barry had great build for running back with low center of gravity and tremendous leg strentgh and vision. no one before or since could change direction or speed as well as barry. the best of all time in my book. a shameowner ford wouldn't build a team around him. poor draft picks, cheap trades left barry on his own with just a few good lions around him. barry deserved to be on a superbowl team for sure. best ever!!

No offense to either Jim Brown or Payton, but Barry did not have that much help at all. Jim Brown had THREE Hall of Fame lineman blocking for him people. I doubt many reading this know that. Lou Groza, Gene Hickerson, and Mike McCormack all are in the hall. Not to mention one of the best receivers of that era in Bobby Mitchell who also is in the HOF. Granted, Payton had what Barry had for the first half of his career.. not much. The other half Payton had a great o-line and a dominating defense.

Sanders had a great ability to read down the field and plot his moves ahead WHILE he was running..he also studied Red Grange(The Galloping Ghost..the legend who practiced by cornering his dog in his yard and trying to catch the dog as it escaped from the corner of the fence around him. Barry had a low center of gravity and flexible hips and a Bruce Lee type explosive-zero to 100 type speed. Awesome athelete.

I know Barry Sanders was listed at 5'8 but there's no way he was over 5'5. Absolutelly everyone on the field was taller than him and Scott Mitchell looked a foot taller than him when standing next to each other. That's what makes his speed even more amazing considering his legs are so short, but I also think this was an advantage since having such a low center of gravity he could pretty much out juke anyone.

2:15 this is what made Barry truly unique. He was the greatest pure runningback the game has ever seen but he did it with style. After a crazy touchdown he woulndn't spike the ball or put it in someones face... he'd hand the ball back to the ref and go back to the sideline til' it was time to go in and do it again. No one had more skill or class.
