Just a random question that i hope someone can answer, could black people fight in WW1? i know they where separated from the whites in WW2, but not so sure about WW1
@LuisRC91 There were separate black units with white officers during the war. The most famous of which was the 369th Infantry Division, the Harlem Hellfighters. However, several black regiments, including the 369th were under French command for the war, but they still remained American units.
I just got a 1937 German gm30 gas mask. Is it safe to breathe with the filter on? If not, is it safe to breathe with the filter off? Sorry if the answer is obvious I'm a noob to this kind of stuff haha

That guys right. nobody really used gas masks in WWII... But in one occasion, Easy company of the 506th airborn did. When they discovered a concentration camp near poland, they asked people in the city to bury the bodies. almost all of the US guards on the scene used the m4-10A lightweight service mask. others used there army issue hankerchiefs.
Luckily, all those nice american and european gas masks never had to be used. Gaswas only used by Japan against China, all other incidents including gas have been accidents (mix-ups, hitting gas tanks with conventional weapons and a single unauthorized use, which cost the lives of two germans and wounded a further dozen.
For anyone interested, when he said "flypaper", the type of gas being used was CHLORPICRIN, PS. I got this U.S. World War II booklet titled "DEFENSE AGAINST CHEMICAL AGENTS" dated October 1st, 1942

@McLOVINMike According to several infantry veterans I knew, masks WERE used, when they encountered thick smoke. Also at the concentration camps...
