Why is there so much hate for announcers? They do their best at making their announcing different from anyone else. Ray Hudson does it. So does Martin Tyler. So does Ian Darke. And so does Derek Rae. If you don't like their announcing that's one thing, but spewing a bunch of personal hate toward them is another. They're doing what they're paid to do and that why their respective stations hired them and not you.
I can't believe how much hate there is for Tommy Smyth. I love hearing announcers like this with catch phrases like he has. He's like Dick Vitale to me, and I love both of them. You can feel the passion when they speak. There are plenty of analysts and experts who can give you straight facts and maybe do a better job commentating but I will listen to these guys for who they are. They make the whole setting more enjoyable for me. Nobody wants a boring commentator and Tommy is never boring.
