I know it gets old comparing music from this period to what's out there now but it's almost depressing to see how the quality has gotten so bad. Compare the musicianship of EWF to the sampling and recycled rap beats out there now. Compare the deep lyrics in this song to sone horny adolescent sining about the neighbors knowing his name. There will never be another Earth Wind & Fire and that's sad.
Anybody remember this song and the year 1974(the year this song came out in)and did you also know this song was recorded at the Caribou Ranch in Nederland, Colorado?
I remember the first time I heard this song. It was in Baltimore, Maryland at my Uncle Nick's house. My family drove down from NYC for the day. My older brother pulled it out and said how great it was. I loved it then and now that I am grown and know what it means I love it even more now. My Uncle Nick has since gone to glory and I miss him, but I'll always remember this music in his apartment. R.I.P. Uncle Nick. Your nephew loves you.
Earth wind and fire for my generation is completely unheard of, but luckily I hear it & listen robot all the time great music that can bring a smile to anybody! Love it!
im 17 and i been listen to them all my life and i love it a lot more then today music and always will because this is all he played in the car all the time and now its all i play and hope when i have kids to past it to them because its the best always put me in a good mode

'This is how true music should sound. Soothing and uplifting to the ears, mind, heart and soul.
The lyrics of Earth Wind & Fire will give aid and understanding to anyone who is willing to open their heart and listen.
The rubbish that is nowadays being thrown at us is merely to confuse the already worried minds. Keep up hope and learn to listen to what is true and pure. Earth Wind & Fire helped me through life and with hard times coming worldwide i'd advise more people to listen and learn.
Earth, Wind & Fire are so talented and their music is so gorgeous. I thought I had already heard all the great music in the world until one day I was recommended these guys by my friend seth. I was left speechless for minutes. Amazing.
We would sit on the stoop back in the day and just let this jam for all of us relaxing and smiling about where would life lead us. And now its like 30 some more years past and one of those lyrics rails so loud to me. Open your Heart

@cab12000 nevermind, this is the song that the 90s rapper, "yoyo" got from EWF... i knew i heard it in devotion. her song is called "dont try and play me out" I knew it was on the tip of my tongue. Its funny how i like these songs and later find out that they sampled it from an old song i LOVE.. I think its my old soul that lived in the 70s trying to come out, because this happens all the time lol
Earth Wind & Fire were my sisters favorite band....... we are a hispanic family, but these songs and this band transcend any race & culture! People should listen to EW&F more, and just chill and get the message!
listen up children of today. this is when being proud to be black had a face...a face that was beautiful in the mirror just as it was on the inside...many of us emulated music like this & tried to understand more than just shiny things and material things...looking at ourselves from the inside was actually cool...i remember those times like yesterday....but that was almost 40 years ago (1973). I don't care what your age is, but hearing this makes me glad to be alive today.
@btinsley1 the struggle has changed in 40 years. my generation didn't live through the same as yours and it seems as if that message has been lost in translation. it's your responsibility to get an empowering message to this generation before they crumble. You being the middle-aged generation, you should be the ones in power and positively influencing the generations beneath you, i am black and i am beautiful is not as prominent today as it should be, where are our real leaders?
@zoroisdead: I'm not so sure the theme of the struggle has changed. to have appreciation, respect for oneself, to love, to prosper and do the right thing. it's as same as it ever was. i agree the message has been lost, as it appears to in every generation. in the real world, my influence upon those i perceive to need "the message" would end my life quickly, so your assessment of my needing to be the one to change it is not at all realistic. today's generation should be accountable & learn.
@btinsley1 it just seems that there is no longer direction, though there are many of the same problems. the older white generation is on top of the political game, but thanks to bipartisanship, there is no party that specifically meets the needs of the impoverished, be it black, hispanic, or white. 40 years ago there was a movement led by blacks, and now there isn't, despite many of the same or similar hardships, that's all i'm sayin, it's a shame nobody wants to use the system for real change.
@btinsley1 your statement is true, as well as straight to the point need not add nor take away. Just want to say thank you . I wish I got her kids could read what you have just spoken.
@btinsley1 this is big boobie. this is music right here. my mom god bless her soul use to make troy and i listen to ewf and now its our job to make our kids do the same. music with meaning. listen to the words.
@btinsley1 Im not black and didn't grow up in that time. But I am a Latino that grew up in the ghetto and grew up listening to this type of music and have alot of respect for it. I understand exaclty what your talking about. This is music from the soul.
@btinsley1 C'est une très juste remarque de ces années si vite passer bien qu'on n'y soi encore quel merveilleuse époque cool et si tranquille fallait y être c'est très juste.
@SanDiego "Choosy Lover" by the Isley Brothers was sampled for "Buddah Lovers" By Bone. Bone did sample "Devotion" for "Thug Devotion" on the Mo Thugs album
I'm a baby from the 60's and love all kinds of music. But my heart is in R&B. I have always loved
Earth, Wind & Fire. I don't think I dislike any of their songs. Just makes me happy.

You being the middle-aged generation, you should be the ones in power and positively influencing the generations beneath you, i am black and i am beautiful is not as prominent today as it should be, where are our real leaders?
zoroisdead 1 year ago
