There were 3 different series injection pumps and 2 different air filtration systems on the 4520. The 4620 had the intercooler and yet another air filtration system. They were pretty much the same as the 4520 they replaced otherwise. The 4620 used the same setup as the 7020 until the 4630 arrived, then the 7020 used a slightly different hood and completely different air filtrattion system; look at a pic of an early 7020 and a late one from the left side.
to 6030 engine serial no of 4520 is 228456 iwill send you on board ploughing video soonthank you for cmments on the 4520 it came from indiana july 2008 regards jdcornwall 4520
oh hey does your 4520 have that intertnal asperator that used tohook to the muffler? and isnt it hard on the turbo not having a muffler on there hey im all for the big noise but ill save the tractor over pleasing my ears
i have some books and people that will tell you otherwise my books are servicemanuals that show onlate 4520's have intercoolers like 4620's and they got the same injection pump plus i know guys who worked at dealers who had to learn about intercoolers when they came out on the 4520 because they were something new
@6030diesel ....they only made the 4520 for 2 years....1968 and 69. It had no factory-installed intercooler. Some guys had them retrofitted with an AFTERcooler, like came on a 4640 or 4840.
But John Deer didn't introduce the intercooler til 1970 when it came out on the 4620 and 6030.
@MultiBaldEagle nah man. the late model 4520's got the JDC injection pump driven off the timing gears and an in intake intercooler. they were essentially 4620's.
@6030diesel ...by late model, I assume then, you mean a 69. If there was an intercooler (and I'm not doubting you), it had to be somewhere inside the engine or up underneath the hood. It wasn't visible like on the 4620 or 6030.
@MultiBaldEagle it was a certain engine serial number that they all got upgraded. 21MM bosch injectors, roosa master JDC injection pump driven off the timing gears(not the camshaft) and a intake manifold intercooler, the exact same part number as a 4620's and 7020's. i went on JDparts.com this morning and the late 4520 and 4620 intercoolers were the same piece. the hood was widened on the later ones along with that side sheild with the releif bend in it to accept that big intake manifold.

hey nice video whats the engine serial number it must be before 30519 because it doesnt have an intercooler
6030diesel 3 years ago
It is a 4520 so no intercooler. The intercoolere came with the 4620. Some of the 45's were upgraded but none from the factory with them.
