@Rimpianto this isn't meant to be expressive, hes just testing the guitar, the way it feels and plays. guess this is the first time you saw a video of him, or you would now how expressive he could be
@alstartheman - Actually I know his music quite well, it's just that his style doesn't reach me. He's really good, that's clear, but it's not what I like or what transmits emotions to me.
Hey can someone help me out? I don't know how to fix my tremelo lock on my ebmmjp
I use 11 gauge strings and i want to play in d# standard and when i tune to it my action raises hugely (action low when in low tuning) I dont want to add springs to the back cause i want to use my whammy bar with ease and i dont want to lower the action on each string cause that will probably create fret buzz. My tremelo lock is acting outnon an angle now.. Is there an easier way to fix it? Thanks
send it for a set up, ask for the strings allowed for your guitar and probably use 9gauges strings. 11 gauges r often too strong and "bend" the guitars 6 months delay.. :)
What you could do is adjust the screws holding the thing the springs are attached to, tighten 'em up and it will be similar to adding another string but without adding tension. I think.
Well, he is playing a new guitar that was probably never set up for his standards, its going to feel quite different. He's human whether we think so or not :)
Yeah well I played it in the store before I traded for it. They had the axis with the locking floyd but I dont like the liscensed floyd trems because they are cheaply made. The craftsmanship is solid and its a very well built guitar, but the sound is just not there. I have a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL halfstack. So I dont think its the amp. I just cant get the tone I want. Basswood sucks in my opinion. I was just asking a question about basswood.
The Gotoh Floyds are not cheaply made. It has come to the point where they are the only trem EB and Suhr both don't have any problems with, and when John Suhr says they're the best made, and everyone I can think of has the same experience, I think people need to stop buying into marketing hype. As for basswood being muddy... I've NEVER had that problem. My Ibanez JPM is brighter than my BFR JP6. They both sound wonderful but very different. Altough, the Ibanez does have more bass.
Respect. I just noticed how much better made my friends ESP eclipse Gotoh bridge and tail piece is made than my American made sg special. My SG tailpiece has lines on the bottom I suppose where it was glued together. The Gotoh though made in Japan, was one soild piece. The bridge was also superior in having no loose saddles or as on my sg bridge some sort of metal wire running across it. The gotoh seems to be far better made and way more solid.
To continue I made the comment on my Petrucci some time ago and have sense then changed the pickups to a steves special in the bridge and an evolution in the neck. I also set it up and now it sounds so much better. I now feel that the muddy sound was coming from my JCM 2000. after plugging my Petrucci into a 6505+ head ran through a 4x12 Mesa standard rec cab it was clearer. My petrucci has the basswood as where yours has the alder with mahogany tone block and maple top? I may be wrong.
I pretty much dont like Ibanez guitars, for some reason I never did. But I love my brothers blazer bass because its such a tank. Go figure huh? No offense. I guess my Petrucci is the plainest of all the models becuase its just a single three way toggle and no piezo or anything. But when I had the pickups changed the guy showed me the toggle acutally had some sort of circuit board looking thing that could be wired for pretty much anything. Again no offense.
Basswood is necessarily a "muddy" sounding wood, it just has a very prominent mid range. The highs and lows are very weak sounding. Obviously overdriven or with high gain, the difference is negligible, but with a clean sound you can easily hear the differences(sort of lifeless). And your JPM should sound brighter, basswood is between mahogany and alder. Meaning it is supposed to have a brighter sound than mahogany.
No tubes=digital sound. no fun finding tube tone in the digital sound realm. I wouldnt be caught dead using digital stuff. Its just not what I like my guitars to sound like. No offense but digital never sounded narural to me.
I think you both have great arguments. 90% of listeners can't tell the difference between a tube emulation and real tube tone. Not only that, but tubes don't have their clipping characteristics until they are overloaded, that's what makes the difference.
Why do basswood bodys sound so muddy? I own one the older musicman guitars and it really dosent sound very good ernie ball should offer me something else because shorly after the jp mms came out they were already woking on new one with bigger bodies. But why does basswood sound muddy?
The only thing I like with JP EBMM is the curvature that was made specifically for his arm to rest on. other than that, the guitars just don't fly to me.
ok BRO.... he's a great guy, awesome. All I meant is that he's not a beer-gargling barbarian like zakk wylde or dimebag who really make us laugh hard. He's the best 'picker' of all time on the shred guitar and he rules, ok. are we cool now can you stop hating?

i dont think so, im afraid you're gonna have to add another spring, i don't think that it will effect you tremolo hugely
vbdude006 2 years ago
i have a guitar tuned to C which required 12 gauge strings. i added a 3rd spring and it works perfectly. the trem isnt affected atall.

how many springs do you have on the back already?
