  • Enjoyed every moment of this clip. Kudos to you for having the bravery of taking that starter apart in the woods, getting the brushes back in assembling can be a headache. Hope both these cars are still alive and doing well. I'm on the Eagle Nest forum as well. Well wishes to fellow Eagle owners!

  • @spikedpunk Thanks soo much, (and other fellow nesters)

Both cars are doing very well. Kristen had her's changed quite a bit, and now it sits up like 6 or even 8 inches higher. Pat's SX/4 is still going.

  • @Whuntmore Glad to hear they live on. Hopefully more of these cars will be posted! Mine is lifted roughly 3-inches (5 if you take the tires into consideration). Please if I may ask, what was the recipe to get Kristen's to sit that high? the independent front suspension is usually the snag in lifting these cars too much and keeping steering geometry safe. Hope to have the '80 on the road in a month or so, once all the salt is off the roads.

  • @spikedpunk

Actually, I'm not really sure... She took it down to the USA, and had it lifted and fabbed up by another Nest member. I think there's a topic on that, but I'm not 100% sure. But I can tell you, she's on You Tube here:

    /user/83regaleagle

that's her, and here's her lifted Eagle:

  • @Whuntmore Thank you for the tip, I will check out more of the car, and decide if I'd like to go in that direction with mine.

  • Great video man. Good to see other AMCeagleNesters on YouTube! :)

  • I liked for all the reasons Frankenpickle did. Great video.

  • @isorivolta Thanks (both of you), it's one of those times where most would wish they had a camera to record it, but I was lucky enough to have mine with me. It was worth getting dirty, and having to fix that starter in the forest. I didn't get home till about 1am, but it was a fun day.

  • you ever heard of bump starting with the clutch??

  • @wzrubicon

lmao!, Ever heard of an automatic transmission??

  • You can water proof your starter by taking it back apart and lining the rear round rear support bushing cap with silicone where it meets the fields housing and the same at the starter nose cone and top cap or solenoid.

  • @jfuc24 good to know, thanks for the info!

  • Dummies you NEVER go through some shit like that slow. since its all mud and little sand its going to be bad. Its funny seeing city boys out in the country using there city logic lol it just doesn't work. Main problem you eased into it. That'd been me I'd hit that doing at least 25 and what traction the wheels don't get the momentum of the weight of a car will push it through. done it many times before. Look out the window all you see is this big wave going away from you, its fun as shit.

  • @jfuc24 no, he high centered. and it wasn't all mud.

Speed would have gotten him more damage to the underside. That center hump was still hard (even under the water) because we dug away at it with a shovel. It was pretty hard. there's no way he would have made that even hitting it at allot faster speed.

  • 258/4.2? Very cool vid, thanks for uploading!

  • I can't even BEGIN to tell you how many ways I loved this video! The two arcane AMC vehicles?! (both of which I loved in my youth). The "middle-of-nowhere" repairs?! TOTALLY FRIKKIN' GREAT!

    Thanks for posting!!

  • @Frankenpickle Thanks for the kind words there Frank. We razzed the living hell outta Pat, for going into that mud hole, but it was a fun day.

  • canadians hey but respect due.

  • My fuel pump went on me in my old Chevy while wheeling. I made a gravity feed out of the truck's washer fluid jug. It only held about 1/2 gal. of fuel, so I had to fill it up quite often to get home. Luckily I had an extra fuel can with me.

  • Awesome video! Well first I can't believe you got it out the mud and second I really admire your mechanical ability to fix the starter under those conditions. I was impressed. Now THAT was a fun day that ended well. Congratulations. Freakineagle

  • @freakineagle Thanks for the kind words. It was a pretty fun day.

  • my cherokee never had a problem, and its stock! and rule one of offroading is BRING YOUR TOOLS. I learned that the hard way.

  • @username2022

Ain't that the truth. Always good advice. Good thing Pat had brought his, or we'd have been screwed.

  • i take it you guys dont get off the pavement much?

  • "want me to measure it?" haha usually these incidents happen when the driver says "ehh...nah, we'll be ok."

  • @mcgoo721

LOLOL, yup. I even offered, but he was sure it was fine. He checked it in like one or two spots - The high hump in the center.

  • @mcgoo721 another good one is hold my beer and watch this ;)

  • wow ... this is wierd ... I love drinking and drviing ... an off road park ... what is that? sounds like you had fun anyway!

  • that looked like a blast and a half lol

  • @Whuntmore -Ya, been on the Eagle Nest site since December, 2007 as user KLEBRUN. Own a 1981 4 door sedan that I take out in the snow once in awhile. Lots of fun to drive.

  • @KLEBRUN Awesome!

I have the same user name on the Nest as here also.

  • Wow, glad you got her out of there! Great job on repairing that starter. Had to replace the starter on my Eagle years ago. Trying to hold that thing in place with one hand and threading those long bolts into place with the other while laying on my back was a pain. That starter gets heavy pretty quick. Can't imagine having to do that out in where you were at.

  • @KLEBRUN Thanks for the kind words. It was desperation the whole time. Luckily, with Pat holding from underneath, and me from up top, that did help - And ya, that starter does get pretty heavy fast. It would have sucked with only one person. Awesome you have an eagle. You on the Eagle's Nest site?

  • it wasnt to deep you went to slow in mud an water you need at least 25 mile an hour an that if your geared low 35 in normal gear range

  • screw the nay-sayers. eagles rock and you guys should hang on to them. they used the same suspensions and axels as the jeeps from that era. 4.2 I6 is a beast engine as well. if you had better tires you could handle those ponds no problem. also, with a 4inch suspension lift and some better parts for the motor, you have and ultamate off road machine

  • @WhereEaglesDare312

Exactly! We had fun in a really cool, non typical off-road car. Pat got too brave, but aside from that, we had a great time. Who needs a jeep when I have an eagle? Long live the Eagle's Nest, huh?

  • OMG!! why not use a jeep or a lighted truck instead??

  • why? we like our eagles. Besides everything on a Jeep (yj, cj, etc) will mate up with an eagle anyways.

  • Yall should buy Jeeps lol
