  • This is cuteä). hope you also have a chance to see 1987 Japanese anime series.

You can see the characters by searching the anime by "Eine fröhliche Familie"(A happy family in German) instead of "Little Women".

  • i wish there were an anime version for every historical account in existence

  • Jo isn't blonde and Meg has brown hair i wish they should have taken the book's description well..:))

  • Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this version either on DVD (preferably) or VHS?

  • @Jes19831 Lucky for me my Mother found this show on VHS Tape almost 20 years ago at a local garage sale. It was not until much later in life that I realized it was not an any ordinary Cartoon but actually an Anime. I would always watch that tape over and over again with such a love for it. No wonder I love Anime so much. I'm glad I snatches that VHS Tape before my mother donated it to the Thrift Store.

  • swwwweeeeeeeeeeeetttttt memories

  • I was slightly obsessed with this cartoon version of "Little Women" as a girl. It's so wonderful to watch this again! Thank you so much for posting!

  • I thought they were poor?! And yet; they're living in a massive house, have nice clothes, have a fire going and drink tea!!!

And Laurie is literally wearing a tux!!

  • Jo is supposed to have chestnut hair, and Amy is supposed to have blonde hair!

  • >_<!!!!!!!!!! this was one of my favorite movies when i was a kid... i watched it over and over and absolutely loved it!!!

  • Uggg! Jo has black hair! And Concord is in Massachusets isnt it

  • @ektwicked There's also a Concord New Hampshire, which is the state captial. And we also have a Concord in Califronia.

  • I still have this on VHS and watch it every christmas. I remember watching it since I was born. Love it!!!

  • I simply adore the book ^.^ Even if they are supposed to be for girls around the age of 12/13...

  • @LittleMizzRandom Meg is 16, Jo is 15, Beth is 13, and Amy is 12

  • My love of the book AND anime combined!!

    I love this!!!

  • Hey, this is on some crappy local channel right now! Man, I don't know how long I've waited to see anime on public TV...

  • Isn't Jo supposed to has dark red hair not blonde hair?

  • @Leonknight23 ...Jo was identified by her lustrous black hair...i have read this book when i was a small starry eyed girl willing to write books...now i am a young woman and there is so much of jo in me...i write blogs and being an english literature student i am privileged to have been introduced to books...now i have gifted the same book little women to my sister.

  • wow amazing to see this again ! my sister got this for xmas on video in uk when she was 8! never knew it was anime! by the way the voice artist for meg is a lady called jennifer tilly who now dose work on a show called family guy! small world eh!

  • like it so much!!!

  • Finally! I found it! :D Thank you for posting this, I wanted to see this for ages! :D

  • i remember seeing this when i was 5 or 6 years old

  • I just love the look of late 70's early 80's animation. its so entrancing

  • this show seriously touched my heart

    i loveeeeeeeee this like crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i like this anime more than the movie

  • haha looks like the artists had a soft spot of Jo, they made her the prettiest.

  • Wow, memories...

  • hi can you do Little Women 48 episodes english please

  • Poor Jo. Turned into an obedient little housewife at the very end, so I don't care much for her anyway.:P

  • I remember watching this as a kid!

  • The house is way to luxurious XD. Meg was blonde, Jo was chestnut haired, I think beth was dark haired too, and didn't have curls, so far as the book goes, Amy was quite pretty and the fairest, with thick golden curls. U.U why doesn't anyone get it right? u.u

  • Can anyone tell me how acturate this anime is to the book?

  • @geekgo4 not very...

  • @geekgo4 jo becomes a teacher and well beth did get better but dies when her illness comes back, you should read the book and watch the anime they're both beautiful and sad a times :)

  • Goood one!!

  • i grew up watching this! thank God! this helped me preserve modesty! Hail I have managed to live even just at the edge of the good, modest times.

  • Does anyone know what the piece of music in the opening credits is called? I really love it!

  • I loved this movie as a girl. But I'm also looking for the "The Dancin Red Shoes" or "The Red Shoes" cartoon as well. It appeared the same time as this one. I've been searching on the internet but I have no luck find it. Does anyone seen it. It was a anime one and it was really sad.

  • Why'd they have to make Beth the prettiest one of them all?

  • Jo isn't blonde!

  • @DittoJessie meg is beautiful because i like meg

  • lodrigo?

    Ohhh.. RODERIGO... hahahahahahha!

  • Do you have "Wakakusa Monogatari Yori Wakakusa no Yon Shimai"? I'd like to watch that version. ^__^

  • @SuperTemp100wpm: Well after Seeing Funimation and Toei teamed up and put classic anime like Fist of the North Star, Captain Harlock, and Galxy Express 999 on Hulu and Funimation video portal. There maybe a chance the 26 episode of this anime may show up on Funi's video portal and Hulu. But it'lll have to be subtitled. That's what happen to those classic anime I mention.

  • ah! thank you! i havnt seen this in years <3

  • i think i just saw this on "smile of a child"......

  • I grew up watching this, and loved it but you know what? There's a pretty major mistake in the beginning....Louisa May Alcott, Emerson & Thoreau lived in Concord Massachusetts not Concord New Hampshire!

  • um.... Louisa May Alcott based this story off of her own life. I wasn't really expecting much from this but I find it amazing that the writers of this movie made such a huge mistake in the setting of this story. The March's were from Concord, Massachusetts as was Louisa and her family....as well as a great many other very important writers of her time. RAWR!!!!! other than that i think i like this film a lot. thanks for posting.

  • "the ice sure is slippery..."

    What?! No way!!

  • @iceskater1, you made me laugh XD

  • meg is supposed to have light brown hair, Jo is supposed to have dark brown hair, and Amy ist the blond one.

  • well since its anime do we care and people in japan made it so you wont think they got their facts right they just wanted to do this to show respect or get money that is it

  • wow this cartoon version of ittle women is really close to the 1984 version in realistic people. that version is my favorit out of all of them

  • OMFG!!! I HAVE THIS ON VIDEO AND I LOVED IT!!! and still do ^-^

  • I faintly recall seeing the 1977 version when I was little. though it could also be the 1994 one. Beth always stuck to me, at the least.

their reaction to the boy is funny xD they're like 'omg, MENFLESH!! *W*'

  • does anybody know the name of the piano piece at the beginning? or the composer? its been bugging me for YEARS!

  • i believe it's Choipn, cause it is a piece (fantastie impromtu) by him later in the story when beth plays at the neighbour...

  • wow i was watchin this on tv the other day...

  • thank you pumachen!!

I grew up with this "little women" anime version.

is amazing to be able watch it again!

i love it, i love the movie and i love the novel, but mostly the second part, when they all fgrow up and fall in love!!

    i love laurie!!

  • is it a little inacuret that the begining when they say the south rebeld refusing to abolish slavery when it rebeld because of the north wating to get rid of stte rights other than that i love the show

  • I loved this version, but whenever I see the nameplates, I keep thinking "Are they on a game show or something?"

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!!

  • I love the bold Caps of the name Captions. MEG. JO. BETH. AMY :)

They developed Beth's character in this a little more than in the 1994 movie...

  • I think this used to be called "Young Girls." I never made the connection with "Little Women" the novel until someone helpfully pointed out they're the exact same story.

  • I havent seen this in years! I always wanted to see it again, I liked the story but only can remember parts of it, it wasnt till I was older (around 11 or 12) that I got my first book of Little Woman and read it and fell in love with it.

It is SO good to see this again, it was one of my first animes that I saw but, obviously, at the time, I never knew what anime was so I never thought of it like that. XD

  • I always imagined Laurie had black hair, but he look's good that way!

  • do anyone know where can i find "Little Women 1987"? pls tell me.

  • Ahhh, anime adaptations of classics... they did so many lovely ones in the 1980s. I wonder why they don't do any anymore?

  • Jo as a blonde? What on earth?

  • It should be noted that the Concord in question is in Massachusetts and not New Hampshire as the beginning states.

  • OH MY GOD! *cries* NOSTALGIA! I can't believe i found this! *cries*

  • LOL 4:18-19

    Jo: "Grrrreat!

sounds like a frosted flakes fan to me.

    ;P

  • Thank You So Much Pumachen for posting this beautiful anime!! I've been trying to find the music sheet for the opening theme. Could you please help me if you know anything about it? :)

  • Jo's a blonde?! GAH!

  • YAY!!! I loved this movie as a little girl!!!

  • Beth: I could just die!!!

  • me: uhhh.....

  • I saw the Finnish version of this constantly as a child. This is great! Thank you sooooo much!

  • I bought this videotape 10 years ago in the UK ^^. In Italy they released a DVD version in 2004.

  • Ah, I love Little Women so much. I even it's horrible animated incarnates!(Jo with Blonde Hair... and Amy without blonde hair! I wanna find the creator and complain!)

    Thanks for uploading these!

  • Parts between 0:23 and 1:47 were cut from the Children's Video Library edition distributed in the U.S. .

The part at 3:43 where Jo tries to jump the fence then throws a snowball at the window is an homage to the 1940's movie version of "Little Women". ; )

  • Thats not the one I know.. ?_?, theres 2 anime ka?

  • There are four anime versions:

    - a TV special from 1977

    - this TV special from 1980

    - a 26 episodes TV series from 1981

    - a 48 episodes TV series from 1987

  • @Pumachen Which anime version was the one aired on HBO during the mid/late 1980's? I remember watching it for several episodes and it ended kinda in the middle.

  • VERY GOOD ANIME MOVIE

  • i remember watching this as a child! i loved it so much! its strange being able to watch it now... thanks for uploading xx

  • Why does Jo have blonde hair? It's Amy who has blonde hair! Not that I'm complaining lol. I like what I'm seeing so far. Little Women is one of my favourite stories.

  • If anyone knows the name or composer of that beautiful piano music on this I will love you forever! I have been looking for it for ages and can't find it! Thanks for uploading!

  • Awh!!!!!!!!!!! we had this video when we were younger awh i loved it so much!!! frig i knew it word for word!!!! awh put the rest up!! xxoo

  • In the story, the character from Jo's play is Rodriego, but here it's pronounced in the English dub as 'Lodriego'. I guess because since Asians pronounce words beginning with the letter 'L' with an 'R' instead, so the translators must've thought they were correcting a word they thought originally began with an 'L'. ; )

  • Which distribution was this from, please? Vestron? Harmony Gold? Thanks.

  • It was a tape from the UK (Pickwick Video Ltd. via Northstar Entertainment)

  • For some reason, the Children's Video Library distribution of this film cut out the introductions of the March sisters.

  • I've been looking for this. I haven't seen it in years. Can you download the rest of it?

  • I will try to add the rest later. But it will take about 3-4 weeks before I can work on the file again

  • wauw, just talked about this serie at school and was wondering if I could find something about it and here it is... loved this serie so much, tanx you for putting it on
