used to take girls there all the time. People would jump out and scream and I'd have the girl in my arms. Was a fishing pier in the 60's Lot of good memories
Just totally awesome Carmen Ricci (owner) knew what he was doing with this one back in the 80's was awesome - brigantine and fast times at ridgemont high!
I was in that Castle in the late 70's. I specifically remember a hallway you walked through where it felt like rats were running past your feet. Was a pretty cool place!
I went there and flirted with one of the vampire girls and she got me in for free a few times. I played around with her in the castle a little bit. Things you do as a kid.
I was there when I was 5 and one of the men working inside who was offering up his partially gutted wife as dinner for "guests" as we walked through offered it to my father saying "Try my wife, it smells like fish but it tastes like chicken". I didn't get it then thank God.
Several of my older cousins and some of their buddies got into a big fight with a bunch of the actors at the exit of the attraction. Apparently the actors weren't allowed to touch visitors, and one of the "ghouls" actually grabbed my cousin by his ankles. Wish I was old enough to have been there at that time.
Funny, Long Islanders say the same thing about people from New Jersey when they come through Jones Beach and Fire Island and they leave our beaches a complete mess.
The Brigantine residents HATED the castle -- All it did was bring bus loads of ignorant NY scum who would leave thier trash on the beach then leave for us to clean up after them.
It was NO ACCIDENT The castle burnt to the ground, trust me.
@timelless my family came back from AC and we wanted to go here. So my dad say yeah the day is still long. We he found out how much it was to get iin. My dad said " I can scare the kids for free." So we never got the chance to go in.
YES, loved the rats on the wall. My cousin came up from Florida for a visit once and screamed and cried......she was so terrified she almost didn't even make it through the entire castle. It was great fun!
Holy shit!!! I can't believe you guys got this shit! That place scared the shit out of me when I went there as a kid man. You see I was a bad kid when I was young. So, this was kind of punishment. They wanted to see if I had balls for real man, and I didn't! If any of you guys and gals wanna share some memories of that place, hit me up! These kids today have no idea what horror is....not unless they been to some shit like this!!!
I went there as a kid too and revisit the commericials every halloween for memories of it, carmen ricci owned it and it scared the livin hell out of me too, the humpback that came down the entrance way ramp on the left side while every one on the right went up by the wall was so scary...it was great....
Sadly, you are so right. I've been doing some extensive research and it seems a lot of the haunted houses now use extensive high-tech animatronics to scare people. As good as they might be, none of them can come close to the scare factor of Castle Brigantine
I grew up in PleasantvilleNJ. I can remember going to the castle on weekends w/ family. I was between the ages of 7 to 11 yearsold. I was never brave enough to get past the ticket booth. Mom & Auntie would take turns standing w/ me inside the video arcade. My attention focused on catching a glimps of the gool chacing people up & down the stair case.
My Aunt lived two blocks from it & my cousins room window faced the castle.10yrs later after the fire, the cast reunited @ the racetrack. I finally had balls to go thru. Still to this day , that Phantom of the Opera music sends a chill up my spin. P.S. I took a rat from the Rat Room.
the music is not from Phantom of the Opera. It's Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor by Bach. It is featured in the first segment of Disney's classic, Fantasia.
WOW, I remember that commercial when I was on vacation Wildwood NJ as a kid..then in about 1984 after I got my drivers license I tracked the place down and drove to Brigantine Castle with my first girlfriend, don't remember much about it but that commercial never left my mind! Great find thanks to whoever posted it!
Those commercials used to scare me as a kid. I never got to visit Brigantine castle. The one we went to often was the Haunted Mansion at Long Branch. Remember that one? It was so cool. That one also burnt down.
I didn't know the Haunted Mansion in Long Branch burned down too. I remember the haunted house in Great Adventure buring down...seems like haunted attractions don't do too well in NJ.
I used to live in Long Branch about 7 months ago. Now I live in an area called Eatontown. I like NJ but I'll be the first to say that people here are way too uptight and basically sticks in the mud. I've been to other states and people are much nicer than the residents here in New Jersey!
YUP!!!! I remember as well...seeing these commercials on channels 17,29 and 48. I heard it was scarey.....the commercials were bad enuff!!! Good memories!! How I miss those days! thnx so much for posting!! And...we may be, eh hem..."old" but...we are STILL COOL!!!!
Back in the late 1970's we came back from AC and we wanted to go to Brigantine Castle. Dad saw the prices and said these words that I will remember for years to come. "HELL NO! You gotta to be kidding."
Awesome! I loved this watching this commerical on Channels 17, 29 and 48 (especially 48)! This was my favorite place to go to when I was a kid, scared the crap out of me though. Too bad it's not around anymore...god I miss that place. Thanks for the memories!
this place was doomed after the deaths at the haunted house at Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ. It was slated for demolition (didn't meet fire code) and burned a week before demolition began (convenient from an insurance standpoint). I went there as a child and saw the vamire in the first room (looked like he was in a large picture frame) bump his head on the ceiling/picture frame when he jumped to scare everyone.
yes, total classic.saturday afternoons.channel 17 'the great entertainer'.i think there was another commercial for the castle also.great classic post. keep it classic. fmartinjr from wilm de.
Yep..also on channel 48...We had a big console television in the cellar. So it made it even spookier when the commercials came on....it was a hundred year old brick victorian I LIVED IN TO BOOT!!!
Great memories.I went to the castle one night in August of 1977.Now,I surf where the castle and pier were. The Rod and Reel bar is still happening.Stop in for a drink sometime.Dave D

Anyone notice that 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force' cartoon's intro with the castle is almost same as the shot of Brigantine
