tonight's a good night for digging up bones... first time I heard this song was in the car with my pop 20 years ago, I was driving my 88 Chevy Caprice with my father... when I said it sounded like "sappy sorry crap" he said to me, "Son, you have to live for a while before you really understand what this song is about." I thought he was just being an old man... I already knew all the answers. And 20 years later... here I sit at midnight, and this song is about me.
I was once in a drunkin' state( texas I beleive) I played this song 23 times, I know it was 23 because each time I played it I drank a beer, I started with a case, and had one beer left when I stopped, it was dawn, the tape was worn out and so was I!!! Man that is a hard and bitter sweet memory.
Randy certainly was the heir to the "old time" George Jones' style of singing (which I love!), but he unaccountably seemed to only have a short run of popularity. I doubt that the fact that he is gay had much to do with it, but it might have (he "married" his much-older female business manager in an attempt to cover-up this fact).
Is that Emilio Estevez on drums?
