I miss Talim, Seong Mi-na, and Yun-Seong! Talim was only 32 (and freakin' unique), I'm sure they could tweak Seong Mi-na's moveset like they did a while ago, and Yun-Seong is just gone for no reason! What's up with that Namco?!

They gave Xiba quite a lot of Mi-na's old moves, along with Kilik's and some of his own new stuff. Combining two pretty unique styles into one character. That's not just lazy due to time constraints, that's lazy by choice and design >:( Bring back our Mi-na!
@smugami Xiba has got two moves of Seung Mina. Some other moves he got from Mina were not unique to her alone: she shared them with Kilik. All his other moves are either his own new ones or borrowed from Kilik. Xiba plays NOTHING like Mina played in any Soul Calibur game. It sucks. MINA MUST COME BACK!!
@TooYaaay BB, 3A+B, 1A+B, WC1B, 44AA, pogo (though in a different way), I'm sure there's more and I've traded in SC4 so can't remember if Kilik had them as well but they shared very few moves in 4. I agree though, Mi-na in 4 was about the mid-range game and hitting with the point whereas Xiba has a much better close range game and probably less ranged moves. I made Mi-na is CaS but just not the same :(
If you're doing a follow-up, don't forget about us poor, pissed-off Yun-Seong and Zasalamel players. Of course, I also hate that they cut Talim and Seong Mi-na. I was great as all four of them.
They took any characters who weren't white, Chinese, or Japanese out of the game so there would be 2 arcade mode "routes" of European and Asian characters. Just for that, no blacks, no Koreans, no Filipinos, not even the lone South-African character. Almost sounds racist.

I would say that they aren't win for plot continuity. But a lot of the old characters are still in, most of them without getting old, in a plot where people hack at each other with sharp sticks.
I suffer for caring for the story in fighting games. Really, how many times are Max and Astaroth going to kill each other?

Mitsurugi's story in the new game is that after SCIV he became bored with the peace that followed and became a farmer. After Soul Edge returned he came out of retirement to fight once more. Each character has a story, they just aren't in the game :P

I understand that Talim, Rock, Mi-na, and Yun weren't great in last game (as a result few competitive players used them), but people still like them. On the other hand, Hilde and Algol were pretty much universally hated but used a lot in tournaments (until Hilde got banned lol) - then it was Amy and Kilik, lmao, but those two got their styles removed. Hmm.
So the story is worse than I thought. They could have made characters older, they could have made new characters with the old styles and they all could have been plot relevant. But it seems the dev team got lazy at one point and then gave up.

It's a game built for multiple people, if people want an action game or single player, there are better options out there for that. It's like trying to add a multiplayer aspect to Final Fantasy, it's just not needed..

@SparktehFox How can Mina be the clone if BOTH characters got the moves in the same game? If anything, Kilik should be conisdered the clone, since Mina already existed before him.
And, all of this is a moot point, because at this point in the series both characters are very different from each other. Just like Nightmare and Seigfried, who started out very similar to each other, but have long since become different.
It's a huge argument in the SC community, seeing as Kilik came after but Mina uses moves that only Kilik had, and the fact that she is an unlockable character which normally makes the later the clone. At any rate it has become a moot point not solely upon the fact that the two characters had been tweaked as the series progressed but that Kilik is now the new Edge Master and doesn't have his own style anymore. Also Xiba doesn't play remotely similar to either character.
I wouldn't mind so much if they were replaced by someone with the same or similar style. We've lost more fighting styles than we've gained, so much for "at least the same amount of characters as the last game"...
@CTback No one in a fighting game is a secondary character, because everyone is selectable. This isn't an RPG.
Mitsurugi has done ASBOLUTELY NOTHING in the "main storyline" since Soul Blade, and yet he's still an iconic, "central" character that will never be replaced, ever.
@nutsVSguts And yet Mitsurugi and even Talim have been closer to Soul Edge than Seung Mina ever has. So far in her storyline, she runs away from home, picks fights, gets her butt kicked, and trains with the people that kicked her butt while everyone else gets a little closer to Soul Edge or Soul Calibur. That doesn't sound like someone who's in the main storyline to me.
@CTback - Apparently you missed the part where nutsVSguts points out that storyline relevance does not MATTER in fighting games. Mitsurugi is just one example illustrating the fact.
@CTback In addition, Project Soul outsourced the story development for Soul Calibur V - THEY didn't decide who had what impact on the story, which means they could have EASILY put Talim in. Face it, there is absolutely NO reason for Talim NOT to be in. Or Zasalamel for that matter.

The thing about the age limit is annoying, sooner or later even Nina and Anna will be out of Tekken D: , considering SoulCalibur now.
Seong Mi - Na was unfortunately considered old to be in the cast but Talim and Zasalamel should have been there! WTF?! However there will be some DLC so they might become available.

@SparktehFox How can Mina be the clone if BOTH characters got the moves in the same game? If anything, Kilik should be conisdered the clone, since Mina already existed before him.
And, all of this is a moot point, because at this point in the series both characters are very different from each other. Just like Nightmare and Seigfried, who started out very similar to each other, but have long since become different.

It's a huge argument in the SC community, seeing as Kilik came after but Mina uses moves that only Kilik had, and the fact that she is an unlockable character which normally makes the later the clone. At any rate it has become a moot point not solely upon the fact that the two characters had been tweaked as the series progressed but that Kilik is now the new Edge Master and doesn't have his own style anymore. Also Xiba doesn't play remotely similar to either character.

@CTback No one in a fighting game is a secondary character, because everyone is selectable. This isn't an RPG.
Mitsurugi has done ASBOLUTELY NOTHING in the "main storyline" since Soul Blade, and yet he's still an iconic, "central" character that will never be replaced, ever.

@nutsVSguts And yet Mitsurugi and even Talim have been closer to Soul Edge than Seung Mina ever has. So far in her storyline, she runs away from home, picks fights, gets her butt kicked, and trains with the people that kicked her butt while everyone else gets a little closer to Soul Edge or Soul Calibur. That doesn't sound like someone who's in the main storyline to me.

@CTback In addition, Project Soul outsourced the story development for Soul Calibur V - THEY didn't decide who had what impact on the story, which means they could have EASILY put Talim in. Face it, there is absolutely NO reason for Talim NOT to be in. Or Zasalamel for that matter.
