Yes, there are two sets of stairs in Kyoto leading up to Kiyomizu Temple, 2 year stairs (Ninenzaka) and 3 year stairs (Sannenzaka). If you fall on those stairs, you will the amount of time of the name of the stairs. Terminally ill patients do so on purpose.
