i once did 47 on a hill, however, there was a junction at the bottom of that hill and as i slowed for it, i hit some gravel and lost the front end at easily over 30, was wearing a helmet and jeans (im not a pro type cyclist) and believe me it hurt.
Moral of the story, bicycles arnt made for speed, if you wanna go fast get a superbike and a racetrack :)
Highest speed i've reached is 54mph.... now that was fun... and a really crazy thing to do... the front wheel was shaking big time... this was on a steep hill on the A53 buxton to leek road.... I'll have to visit this hill again with my own cycle cam...
I have done 44.3 mph on a mountain bike with road tyres. Still stable as anything. One thing you have to watch out for at that speed is sudden changes in gusts of wind. They are very de-stabilising
My all time highest speed was 43 MPH. My mountain bike gears will not let me go any faster. Road bikes have higher gears than MTB bikes. Where I live, a road bike would not last long, our roads are real bad,
No, I carried on to Fintry on this occasion. I got 48.8m[h coming down Tak Ma Doon. I didn't know about the Ford and hit that at about 40mph. That was a brown lycra moment! :-o
Great video. the uphill one was too painful to watch fully. Part of this video appeared to show some words on the roadway, but you were going too quickly to read them. They reminded me of some old Three Stooges scene where the sign read GOSLOW, and was read by Curly as "gaus - low". Too much fun! Thanks for sharing that.
Aye it was nice. Unfortunately as I am training for the Trossachs ton, and time was limited (had to get back to Glasgow for lunch) I had to keep moving as best I could. It would be nice to take at a more leisurely pace!
Why do you ride on the left side of the road :o?

Well done Maggers. I know what yo mean about that head wind I was there today; oh well at least it made the Tak Ma Doon Road easier.

What sort of bike have you got now?
Your vids are a lot quieter now without the old STI gear changers :)

It's a Kinesis Tk with Ultegra Shifters, Ultegra rear mech, 105 Front Mech and Aksium Race tyres (25mm Gatorskins). There is a picture on my blog.
I love it! :-)
