  • finally! a video with something that makes sense!

  • u makes this look easy....

  • Jeff loomis

  • commented on this 6 months ago and im still no where near being able to play this, but every time i watch jeff (and my other idols) play it still has the same effect on me. the desire to master guitar and be able to inspire others.

  • TABS. Now.

  • Ringtone

  • wow fixed bridge? i thought this one came out only with a floyd

  • @Neltheros They make a fixed bridge one too available for purchase. If that's your thing, go for it. Musician's Friend carries them I think.

  • this is y im selling my guitars. hahaha

  • Most of skilled guitarist's thumbs have curve.Mine is straight and speding extra effort for down picking.

  • how is it possible to move the fingers as fast as he is doing ?

  • One thing I find impressive, and totally dig, is that this lick involves no slurs. every note is picked. Harder than using slurs to lighten the load.

  • Jeff's tone is sick

  • @nikooxmaster It's an Engl Powerball with the highs at 1 o'clock the mids at noon and the bass at 3 o'clock.

  • @Goth3m3 Loomis uses an Engl Savage now...

  • Insane guitar player for real, but he could really work on his tone.. dunno what amp he's playing through but the most of a good players tone is within the fingers.

  • @raffefrank Nah, on these Young Guitar demos they always bring the guitarists really shitty amps to use, it seems. I can't remember seeing many where the tone is that great.

  • Synister gates is only good in a studio n Jeff loomis is on a whole nutha level than him

  • He's great at playing the first 1000 notes but he missed the last note every time on this just find a little funny u think that would be easy after all that still think he's great I'm a new fan as far as shredders go would like him to humiliate yingvay 4 fun yngwies ego is soooo huge Paul Gilbert is still untouchable n humble as well

  • My pinky's hurting watching this :-O

  • standard tuning? I know he plays a 7 string.

  • why do people keep on putting synyster gates?? he can't even breathe the same air as loomis.

  • syn sucks ass

  • Synyster Gates!

  • Sinister Gates blows ass.

  • Synyster Gates

  • At 0:22 I was like "yeah I'm keeping up with Jeff Loomis!"... then it got to 0:38

  • Every time i watch something like this, i go and try it, and fail miserably. then about a month later i go back and try again and suddenly it's easier... but still not that good.

  • Synester Gates...... In all fairness, does anybody know how to get that generic shred guitar tone?

  • Sweeping = strumming on speed! :)

  • good player...icky guitar tone

  • @IAmMichaelMyers yeah.. young guitar and stuff always bring down the dudes actual tone. atleast this shows how clean this dude is since the gain is pretty thin. My God he's incredible

  • Too easy... NOT! i wish my sweeps were that clean. practice practice practice, though. That's all it takes... and low action XD

  • L murt ca ten

  • loomis=awesome

    schecter guitars=baseball bat necks=bad

imagine how much faster he'd be on an older ibanez 7 string (rg7620, or older UV). that would be INSANE

  • @deathcore1239 I'm not sure, if you look at his thumb, you can see he grabs the side of the neck. And when you do that, having a Wizard neck is not hte best idea it suits Chris Broderick very well because he grabs the back of the neck.

  • @DarkRattlehead i grab the back as well so it works much better for me

  • watch the right hand - economy of motion - the sign of the master! I get to see him live in two days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • watch the right hand - economy of motion - the sign of the master! I get to see him live in two days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • His guitar looks unusually red in that video.

  • Can anyone tell me the arpeggio's he's using in this? Letter names or something? Thanks.

  • dude, i can play like Synyster Gates in my sleep. it actually takes effort to be half as good as Loomis.

  • i don't mind getting blocked, i enjoy listening to synyster's solo's. Just as I enjoy listening to buckethead or slash or jeff loomis, to each his own.

  • @aboveheaven08 AMEN!

  • how about everyone stop talking crap ingeneral and watch this video for wha its worth? they both have two different styles and no matter what you say theyre doing something right cuz your at home on a computer bickering with each other about it over and over. jeff and syn is good with a guitar. if they werent they wouldnt be here making the money they make. get over it and enjoy the ear treatments. :D

  • Loomis would put Gates to shame!!!

  • I love how half the comments are just "Synyster Gates". You guys are hilarious. See, it's funny because he told you that if you posted about Synyster Gates you'd get blocked, but you're doing it anyway.

  • i see alot of people comment on these super shreder videos that say stuff like "ill never be as good as that" am i the only one whos getting massively inspired to play more.

  • @Spidermanownz I get extremely inspired when I watch a video like this too!

  • @swimmerforlife789 im glad to hear it man, i love being in bands and stuff i just cant find commited members. makes me happy to hear of people dedicated to their instrument.

  • @Spidermanownz I think most people just don't have the dedication in them

  • @Spidermanownz no I'm too

  • @Spidermanownz no man.same here!

  • @Spidermanownz of course you get eager to play. man ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @Spidermanownz Nope, I'm with you.

  • @Spidermanownz I don't get why people say they'll never be good enough to play something.. I practice speed, precision, and scales for about an hour a day, the other hour or so of playing I do each day to learning covers or just messing around, and I'm self-taught, whatever. I guess the point I'm trying to make is if you want to be able to play something on the guitar or any instrument, you will be able to it will just take time and practice.

  • @Spidermanownz Way inspired, and thankful for it. Jeff is one of a kind.

  • @Spidermanownz no, same with me, shows how good i could be

  • @Spidermanownz Dude it doesnt matter how inspired i am. There is no way in hell i will be able to play this good, no matter how much i practice

  • @213114960 Yes there is, just have to be persistent.

  • @Spidermanownz That's why I always watch videos of my idols playing the guitar!

It's a very good idea to watch someone who much better than you.

  • nice bro .

  • @TheFpb2 <3

  • @TheFpb2 again, not hard to figure out. If you're taking the time to watch the video you may as well learn while you're watching.

  • @TheFpb2 it's the same thing over and over on different frets basically no need for tabs

  • Synyster Gates

  • synyster gates

  • @TheFpb2 The vid just showed you the riff in like 15 different angles and at a slow pace... If you need tableture for this, you're probably half-retarded.

  • @TheFpb2 You gotta be fuckin' kidding me...

  • This is actually a relatively easy sweep picking lick because it rolls off the fingers nicely, but the tone and the way he plays it so clean make it sound impressive.

  • I actually hate this guy, for making the rest of us look bad.

  • Great guitarplayer, and I usually like his tone, but it's pretty muddy here.

  • ok evrybody stop sayin shit about syn until you can upload a video of the afterlife solo, nightmare solo, second heartbeat solo, chapter four solo, or the almost easy solo jeff loomis is good but hes not the best and syn isnt the best either but both are pretty great at shredding and sure syns live playing is sloppy but thats because it is LIVE its not like he can play all those 6 string sweeps, arpeggios, triplets and runs perfectly same with jeff but jeff is a little better than syn :)

  • okay. so i started these licks about 5 months ago. i FINNALLY got the fucking thing down OMG IM SO HAPPY

  • gates can suck my balls. loomis rapes him not only because jeff can play better, but jeff has more knowledge in theory and has far more feel in his lead playing.

  • @Ryan07Murphy im pretty sure i could, just sayin. tough guy. hahahaha

  • Synyster Gates

  • @aligatorsandwitch72

    0/10

People make no effort in their trolls anymore

  • Why so much hate for Syn on jeff loomis videos!? They are both good guitarists. why judge their technical guitar playing? it should be about the music they make and i think avnged sevenfold make better music than nevermore but thats just my opinion

  • @amccoll20893 your an ugly human being

  • Synyster Gates

  • Now I hate myself.

  • my buddies dad just showed me who loomis is last night. holy shit. and for all you syn. gates guys, his dad plays better then him with his penis. i shit you not.

  • @monsteraddict908 You watched your buddies' dad play with his penis ??? That's weird 0_O and illegal.

  • Ok Loomis clearly beats syn. But don't rip on gates he's still amazing. I personally love his solo style

  • OMG. If Synyster and Jeff had a guitar battle, Syn would fucking MELT. Seriously, Listen to this epic stuff, and then listen to syn's messy ass sweeps.

  • Next person that mentions Synyster Gates gets blocked. Am I joking? Maybe, find out.

  • @wintershadows synyster gates

  • @wintershadows hate him!

  • @wintershadows Synyster Gates.

  • @wintershadows

    Amen bro

  • @wintershadows All right. Synyster fuckin Gates cant play guitar well. He might be "fast" but very scruffy. And the "fast" things of that gaylord are so easy to play - hes a shame

  • @NevermindXY I know right? Synyster Gay is on the level as youtube guitarists.

  • @MrCatFetish Are you sure bout that? Most Youtube guitarists are even better...

  • @NevermindXY High Five.

  • @wintershadows I hate that fucking faggot synester gates, and for the matter the whole shitty band that accompanies him

  • @wintershadows oh come on! synyster gates is just as good as this guy! Theyre both classically trained and both sweep pick. tell me why jeff loomis is better!

  • @FenderrMann

    1.)better band

    2.) can sweep better

    3.) faster

    4.) more feeling

    5.) A7X is retarded

    6.) Synyster is overrated

  • @dreamtheaterisbetter

    1) thats an opionon

    2) I dont believe that. Prove it, and ill believe you.

    3) Im not sure on that. His "afterlife" solo was just as fast as loomis' stuff

    4) I disagree. It Syns solo of "seize the day had a very emotional solo. better than jeff.

    5) thats an opinion

    6) thats an opinion

  • @FenderrMann

    1.) Spelt "OPINION"

2.) You just watched the video. Now watch Syn's lesson on it. Very sloppy

3.) Yes, the first 10 seconds are. Now look up the solo for "Born" or "Psalm Of Lydia".

4.) One solo with feel does not beat someone who includes feel constantly? comprende?

    5.) Prove me wrong

    6.) Prove me wrong

  • @dreamtheaterisbetter

    1) (i cant believe im taking the time do do this, but I enjoy these.) My bad, typo.

    2) This guy was sloppy too. Hendrix was sloppy. Doesnt make him a bad player.

    3) Ill do that right after this.

    4) Well, the reason he doesnt include feel CONSTANTLY is because hes not an instrumentalist. Hes in a metal band. Which doesnt have a lot of soul to it,

5)I cant because thats an opinion.

    6) I cant because thats an opinion.

  • @FenderrMann

    and here we go again...

    2) this wasnt sloppy. it was right on

    3) okay

    4) Nevermore is a metal band too. and they have feel...just saying

    5) mmkay

    6)mmkay

  • @FenderrMann Soul, is just another way to limit yourself from improving your technique and accuracy. Metal has soul, just a different kind of soul to it, not every guitar player likes to stick within one idea of heart and soul.

  • @FenderrMann

wow your opinion is automatically void from now on. jeff loomis has made an instrumental album you wiener. on top of that, nobody except the player can measure how much emotion a player has. the player and the player alone knows, not the listener.

  • @FenderrMann Syn sucks compared to Jeff Loomis, Muhammed Suicmez, Brent Hinds, Bill Kelliher, Shawn Lane, and even Dallas-Toller Wade 0.0 seriously man, dont compare someone whos mainstreem, does a divebomb almost every solo, and does nothing but the same shapes over and over to a virtuoso, or to any other guitar player. end of story

  • @FenderrMann He's technically better. Cleanless, speed, etc. And make better music but this is an opinion

  • @wintershadows

mentioning synyster gates in a jeff loomis video is like mentioning joey jordison in a tim yueng or george kollias video. seriously people get with it

  • @wintershadows Sy.... umm... EVIL FENCES!! Get it? no? =P

    <3 Jeff Loomis

  • Why are you guys comparing this guy to synyster gates??? your a bunch of idiots. They have two different styles. yea they both play fast but this guy sweeps more and synyster just hits every note and plays fast with alittle sweeping here and there. Compare him to someone with the same style.

  • Just finished tabbing the whole thing out!

  • when he plays it full speed, is he picking every note or is he using hammer ons and pull offs?

  • @cky2k06 both

  • @Lalaldd acually his picking the whole thing all downs and ups

  • @MrSpeedgtrst16 no he is hammering at the start of each pattern and when i goes back he pulls off.

  • @Lalaldd dude trust me i have one of his dvd's he does this lick he explains it.....theres no hammer ons or pull off in any of it

  • @MrSpeedgtrst16 okey perhaps your right, the pattern is not very common so i wouldn't know it excatly. It's just that hammer ons and pull offs are used sweeping often so supposed he did it too,

  • @Lalaldd (half step down) (E-15 B-14 G-12-15 B-14 E-12)...etc

    (E-15 B-13 G-12-15 B-13 E-12)..etc

i hope you could understand that

  • @Lalaldd there aren't any hammer ons or pull offs in this

  • @Lalaldd there is no hammering on at the start of each pattern cause there aren't any 2 consecutive notes on a string. each note is played on a different string at a time

  • mas despacio hijo de la verg

  • Great player but the tone is horrible.

  • @mraggrovator No that tone is awsome

  • i hate that fuckin sweep. my fingers curled up and died after the first couple of attempts

  • @Grim214 get a scalloped fretboard and yngwies dean markley strings

  • it makes his left hand look amazing

  • difficult sweep lesson! love it!

  • Who ever mentioned synister gates while watching this video should go die.

  • He has speed but that vibrato makes my ears bleed.

  • no seas ogt aslo lento cabron para entenderte

  • Hello Jeff...I am a blues rock guitarist cut from influences of Hendrix, Clapton, Allman/Betts and Santana/Schon...

How can I break the blues mode to attack what you are doing? I'd love to try this. You are an excellent musician...thanks.

  • @MarshallAmpMan

    Step 1: Learn this lick

Step 2: Learn another lick by Jeff Loomis

    Step 3: Practice 4 hours a day

    Step 4: Repeat all steps

    lol

  • Once you get into an interesting and comfortable pattern, you can just haul ass.

  • jeff loomis is probably one of the best shredders of all time. i can only think on malmsteen or something thats better than him...

  • just when i thought i got 3 string sweeps down....

  • Painfull!!!

  • (O_O)

  • please tabs!!!

  • @xXxcreepingdethxXx send me your email addy

  • @xXxcreepingdethxXx dont really need tabs man.. the cam is practically in his hand

  • How can you compare Synister Gates And Loomis!? Loomis kills and outshreds the fuck out of him. Gates is okay i guess, im not too big of a fan of him. But loomis is MILLIONS of times better than him!

  • Yep...Ive heard that comparison between Loomis and Gates and in reality Gates is good but Loomis is wayyyy better. Its almost like comparing EVH with Slash.

  • 2 completely different styles mate.

  • @chadgarland I know man, thats why i was surprised to see that in the comments section. Clearly someone brought it up before i did and it caught my attention. Like i said. "How can you compare the two?" But yeah i agree. Two completely different styles.

  • @JamesDeathMetal for FUCKING sure! gates is a good and fast guitarrist, but he has no way half the class and the level of guitar playing, shredding of loomis.

  • Such a good player, but the tone in this video just makes my eye's twich.

  • when you move the sweeps different keys its kink of hard.

  • wtf! i've never even seen some of these sweeps ... OMFG THEY'RE HARD.

  • They are quite common :-P The diminished is overused in playing today... except by Loomis and good shredders :D For me, the diminished shapes up and down the neck sweeping (3-6 string sweeps) are the most difficult.

  • I was an atheist before I heard Jeff Loomis play guitar

  • FUCK YEAH!!! same here..

  • o he had that effect on you to

  • i switched back to atheism after i learned this lick and played it faster than master loomis...

  • @crankycactus sure you did.

  • @dontdissheavymetal ... you are right, i lied.. those diminished arpeggios are too cumbersome for me at that speed... but my atheism stands...

  • @Santaslave666 haha i get it

  • Are these Diminished Sweeps?

  • I hate that they discontinued this model, could have had more tuning options and less hassle.

  • @Whyrendog

    they'll have more in 2010

    according to DrumcityGuitarland

  • Block the trem?

  • scratch that, i mean switch to the 13th fret after the 14th.

  • the first part goes 15,14,12 descending. then 15,14,12 ascending. the second part replaces the 14th fret with the 12th fret on the 2nd string.

  • It replaces the 14th with the 13th.

  • pls can someone give a tab for guitar pro for this pls reply

  • Synister Gates? What's wrong with you all?

  • i hate it when sweeps start on the pinky... i guess that means i should practice until i LOVE it!
