FCX Will never be a professional editing tool, it's designed so any iFool can edit their iJunk on any iToy, thats the way Apple are heading. This program is a joke and no serious editor would consider it. Premiere can do something that this pile of junk can't - import FCP7 projects! I think that says it all. I have edited on FCP7 and on Premiere CS5.5 and I prefer FCP7 but have switched to CS5.5 because it is many times faster, does everything FCP7 does (and more) and is not a dead horse.
Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 is not half the Final Cut 7, and updates for 2012 will make FCPX better to others, for mediocre editors is difficult adjust a new system, but in some years when once again Adobe Premiere decide to copy Final Cut X, they'll be forced to change...
You just don't get it! This is a revolution, those bitching are stuck in the old - (crying) 'no telecine, no EDL, this is the worst thing ever' - all dying processes like the 8 track, tape cassette and no so far away the CD. They are not needed. This is the future, embrace it.
@WCWarehouse I think you're missing my point. I was addressing all the silly "revolution" talk. FCPX may be easier for a novice to edit video but it doesn't automatically make them a great editor. Every person over the age of 13 could be given FCPX for free and it still wouldn't change the fact that only 5-10% of all created content is actually good.
@moviesunrated The title is exactly the same and this account is owned by the guy who edited the video. The video was removed from Vimeo because they are far less lenient than YouTube.
SAWEEEEEET!!! Bro that is SO freakin' awesome!!! You are the bomb...So how many folks will move to Adobe Premiere after this of for heavens sake move back to avid? What about Vegas? Thoughts?
this is not so much about 'video editing' yes, an editor can work with any tool. People are upset because they have entire workflows involving so many other departments, connecting to FCP. No one HAS to switch to FCPX, but in a few years when some new tech or camera system is all the rage, there will be no support for said professionals, the entire system slowly dies, this is why people are freaking out. FCPX is fine, but killing 7 at the same time sends a brutal message to FC pros.
Official word from the Apple folk I've talked to about this:
Go to apple dot com slash feedback and let them know why you feel let down by the withdrawal of the working product from the shelves - and how this has affected you and your work.
It won't do anything.... but at least we can vent in the right direction.
I love change, almost for it's own sake, but betrayal on this level is heartbreaking. And this from a former Apple fanboy. June 21, 2011. The day an industry went bonkers trying to find its bearings. Who can we trust now?
Oh, and this video was so good. It's the single best example of a screencast video I've ever seen. And it found its audience. Yay. But I mourn the reason for its creation.
I loved this film. It expressed the way I feel. The music was choosen pretty well. Makes me feel even more sad about what they did to us, editors. But maybe, when we all complain very hard for the next months, MAC has to do something about this and might answer our prayers and give us, professionals, the FCP Prof.
Thanks for making this and sharing this with us all!!!

All this type of stuff was said when FCP first appeared.
Great movies and shows have been made with FCP in the time since.
Avid cost 100 time less than it did before fcp.
35mm film is gone... tape will be gone soon too..and dvd...the original FCP was a big breakthrough in the industry, that freaked out the gatekeepers this is no different. So everybody keep whining and freaking out it won't change a thing...s
@MarkMontreal 35mm is gone? It's used a lot less, but to say it's "gone" is wrong. Real professionals still use it for commercials, music videos and feature films. I agree tape may be gone soon, but it's not gone now. Upgrading iMovie and killing what had at least become adopted by professionals (FCP up to 7), is just not gonna' be tolerated by professionals. Youtubers? Go for it. Digital agencies with low budgets? Congrats. The pros are done with FCP. Period.
Nice video, capturing a genuine emotional response that I call "Anticipointment". FYI,
I actually like the app, but it took me a few days to figure out the new workflow before I could make sense of how it uses and manages media. I expect the just announced SDK to really help developers access the database, which is a much better solution than traditional XML transfers.
@adamdocker I am not sure what comments you are referencing at the original video site on Vimeo... your description of some comments are overly dramatic...
So what the creator of this video is telling us is that they have more money than sense? Do you rush out and buy software without looking at reviews first? Really? You couldn't have simply reinstalled FCP 7 or just not purchased FCP X without thinking? Did the X not give you any indication that it might be a departure from FCP 7?
@aristotledude The creator did something, what did you ever do? Besides that. Yeah, most of the reviews are biased, I bought FCPX right after watching some promos from apple. Nice, smack in the face, got my money back, I thank apple for that. You're just trolling. This video is awesome!
Great post. I saw that you edited this with Premiere. Nice choice. I have been a FCP user for 10 years. And after Apple made this move, I said goodbye, and made the purchase for Premiere. Loving it so far. Also excited to see it's integration with After Effects, seeing as I used Afx often.
I see a lot of bitching between FCP, Premier, and Avid guys. Well sorry guys, but you basically have to follow the market. You don't decide what you're editing on, your employers do. Unless you're strictly freelance and unassociated with bigger post houses then you have to follow the their lead. And lets face it, editing isn't hard on the technical side of things. It will be confusing at first because the tools have moved, but the process is basically the same.
@rjones6801 First post houses don't like FCPX either. (Google it. You'll find tons of stuff about how bad it is). Second, "You don't decide what you're editing on". Really? I'm an editor for over 20 years. My post house has Avid, FCP7, After Effects a Flame room and other software and indeed I cut on whatever I like. I'M the one who decides what software is right for what job. Not the client. Not the house. Me. The editor. That's what professionals do.
@barneybarnbarnful I wasn't defending FCPX, I was just making a point. I've been editing and doing graphic design for 10 years, so I'm not some dumbass kid. Don't talk down to me. You can't tell me you don't understand the point of that post. If you're a freelance editor, unless you enjoy limiting yourself, you have to know it all. For example, a lot of post houses here in the DC area use FCP, but the big networks (Discovery, National Geographic) use Avid. I can't change that.
@rjones6801 I can assure you no FCP7 vendor or network is going to upgrade to FCPX as long as it cant't open old project files. That's the biggest deal breaker of them all. Even if FCPX was pro-ready, companies wouldn't be upgrading for at least a year if not longer for a variety of reasons, including cost and bugs. You do have a point though, that the NLE choices aren't really dictated by the individual editor, rather the places he works.
The biggest issue with sticking with v7 now is lack of future updates. There will be new formats soon and FCP7 will not support them. No more features will be added or fixed. EOL product is probably good for most storytelling editors for a while. Not so much for folks who finish on FCP.
using Soundhound on my Android powered Samsung Fascinate says the song is by Scala & Kolacny Brothers...Scala is a Belgian girls choir and the Kolacny brothers are a pianist and a conductor, the album "On the Rocks" is a collection of Rock tunes all sung in this manner...pretty cool choice of music if you ask me
When some people want to be fired start doing fool things. Looks like Apple instead make and statment leaving the FCP Project, it just come with this new iMovie kind software and sold us their sofrware retirement for the last time.
FCP isn't the best NLE, but it outsells the competition.
However, Avid Media Composer is, and always has been, the best editing software out there. Hopefully Apple's re-imagining of FCP will get people back over onto Avid.
Apple isn't concerned with making the best product; they're concerned with making the best SELLING product. They'll get way more sales from the kids who want to edit their skateboarding vides than they will professional editors.
The iPhone isn't the best phone, but it outsells the competition-I have one.
Mac computers aren't the most powerful, but they outsell the competition-I have one.
The iPod isn't the best mp3 player, but they outsell the competition-I bought two. (Now use a Sony, though)
@CiPheR0818 The sound is absolutely in sync... maybe you don't have a Mac... that sound is when the user EMPTY the trash, NOT when a file is placed on it. So, I was expecting the right click to empty the trash... and it happened when the video was in black.,... GENIUS!!!!
@Kitsua I agree. I wish Apple would get the picture and resume support for FCP7. I have a friend whose company just invested a bunch of change in the FC servers and now it's worth nothing. Adobe and Avid are now offering discounts to editors who switch.
It's the tags that are the problem (or lack thereof). Title is fine. Also video has nearly 90k if you count the views from before it was pulled off Vimeo.
I'm an editor professionally, and I have never seen a more beautiful video than this. I live my life on the edit system, and this video was like watching the montage of someone's life after they've passed away... I'll miss you FCP. The sound bites were not only a great idea, but executed perfectly. Bravo.
I am saddened by the demise of Final Cut, but rather than go back to AVID, I am really interested in Premiere now. Thank you for making this and sharing with the rest of us! Out of curi
@coluch I'm a video professional and I've been using Premier since I was on a PC. I think you'll enjoy using it. I'm not a pro editor per se, but a producer and former reporter who knows how to edit. We're also planning to produce some tuts on our site. So many pros I know feel betrayed by Apple. I have FCPX, but can't get into it. I'll stick to premier and FCP7. ~Amani
@1995Tristan FCP is not dead... it is just being reborn. Sure, it's premature right now, but it will mature. Remember how painful the switch from OS 9 to OS X was? The OS actually got much better in spite of the pain. Don't pitch a fit, just use the FCP you have. When the time is right you can make the switch.
@kevinbower Actually no, I don't, because Apple KEPT SHIPPING Mac OS 9 while they transitioned to Mac OS X. OS X didn't become the only choice until version 10.2.
@jefferyharrell01 OK, you are absolutely right on that point. Based upon the fact that pro editors have to keep working within the workflows they have established, I agree that the old software needs to be kept available. That is an arrogant oversight by Apple, (do you hear me Uncle Steve?) However, I am looking forward to a fully 64 bit app that will use all 8 cores, and all 16 Gb of memory. The big fuss is over input and output which will be taken care of in subsequent updates.
Professionals that purchased past versions of FCP are having a wake-up call everywhere. They'll no longer be buying decked out Mac Pro$, OS software, tons of ram, apple protection care plans, and all of the other expensive things you can use to beef up your Mac. They'll reach for another option. FCPX mislead their consumers by falsely marketing FCPX. It's iMovie on steriods (which is the majority of YouTubers). Apple needs to fix this.
Professionals FCP users I feel your pain. I left mac in 05 and went to Sony Vegas. I'm surrounded by macs in my building and see the concern on the editors faces. Good luck.
What a joke! Lack of EDL, XML, and ability to import FCP7 projects renders it utterly useless for my needs - how on Earth am I supposed to, for example, get projects to a grading house?! I've been cutting for eight years and started using Premiere Pro last year - found it much more versatile. Never got to grips with Avid.
So sad to see Apple has gotten out of the post production business. Oh well - I switched from Avid to FCP a decade ago, I can switch to another platform again.
I laughed and then I cried. I had such high hopes for X. There's a petition to Apple regarding FCP X. google "petition online final cut pro x is not professional"
There's a petition that's worth checking out to ask Apple to either relegate FCPX to iMovie status or to sell FCP7 software rights to another company to continue it as a professional program:
google "petition online final cut pro x is not professional"
Difference between posting this video on Vimeo to Youtube is like chalk and cheese when it comes to comments. On one, like minded people can have a debate about an issue, whereas on the other it turns into a moronic bloodbath, full of chavs and neanderthals screaming blue murder and cowardly and rudely throwing insults.
@adamdocker bro at least youtube doesnt mess up every other upload you do. vimeo just wants to make money from paid accounts whereas youtube puts the power in the creator, especially for a partner. WANK WANK WANK

using Soundhound on my Android powered Samsung Fascinate says the song is by Scala & Kolacny Brothers...Scala is a Belgian girls choir and the Kolacny brothers are a pianist and a conductor, the album "On the Rocks" is a collection of Rock tunes all sung in this manner...pretty cool choice of music if you ask me

Hopefully Apple's re-imagining of FCP will get people back over onto Avid.
nsitka 8 months ago
Apple isn't concerned with making the best product; they're concerned with making the best SELLING product. They'll get way more sales from the kids who want to edit their skateboarding vides than they will professional editors.
The iPhone isn't the best phone, but it outsells the competition-I have one.
Mac computers aren't the most powerful, but they outsell the competition-I have one.
The iPod isn't the best mp3 player, but they outsell the competition-I bought two. (Now use a Sony, though)

the sound when putting the app into the trash is not in sync with the vid. very funny
CiPheR0818 8 months ago
@CiPheR0818 The sound is absolutely in sync... maybe you don't have a Mac... that sound is when the user EMPTY the trash, NOT when a file is placed on it. So, I was expecting the right click to empty the trash... and it happened when the video was in black.,... GENIUS!!!!

@efuenzalida my bad. i use mac but not most of the time haha

The title should include "Final Cut Pro X" and "FCPX" so that anyone searching those terms gets to see this brilliant vid.
Kitsua 8 months ago 28
@Kitsua The title can stay, what it really needs is relevant tags like those you suggested.
jdfunari 7 months ago 2
@Kitsua It has 55K views and counting. People are finding it. The title is perfect.
webvideochefs 7 months ago
@webvideochefs When I commented it only had a few. Glad people are getting to see it, it's the best commentary on the whole debacle yet.
Kitsua 7 months ago

Out of curi
coluch 8 months ago 59
@coluch Or you can reinstall Final Cut Pro....
Marco007Marco007 7 months ago
@coluch You obviously do not edit professionally if you use Primere over Avid....
MrCraigtheChicken 7 months ago

When the time is right you can make the switch.
kevinbower 8 months ago
@kevinbower Actually no, I don't, because Apple KEPT SHIPPING Mac OS 9 while they transitioned to Mac OS X. OS X didn't become the only choice until version 10.2.
jefferyharrell01 8 months ago
@jefferyharrell01 OK, you are absolutely right on that point. Based upon the fact that pro editors have to keep working within the workflows they have established, I agree that the old software needs to be kept available. That is an arrogant oversight by Apple, (do you hear me Uncle Steve?) However, I am looking forward to a fully 64 bit app that will use all 8 cores, and all 16 Gb of memory. The big fuss is over input and output which will be taken care of in subsequent updates.
kevinbower 8 months ago
Professionals that purchased past versions of FCP are having a wake-up call everywhere. They'll no longer be buying decked out Mac Pro$, OS software, tons of ram, apple protection care plans, and all of the other expensive things you can use to beef up your Mac. They'll reach for another option. FCPX mislead their consumers by falsely marketing FCPX. It's iMovie on steriods (which is the majority of YouTubers). Apple needs to fix this.
krfilms 8 months ago
Professionals FCP users I feel your pain. I left mac in 05 and went to Sony Vegas. I'm surrounded by macs in my building and see the concern on the editors faces. Good luck.
wog222 8 months ago
What a joke! Lack of EDL, XML, and ability to import FCP7 projects renders it utterly useless for my needs - how on Earth am I supposed to, for example, get projects to a grading house?! I've been cutting for eight years and started using Premiere Pro last year - found it much more versatile. Never got to grips with Avid.

Sony Vegas is a well kept secret, mostly by Sony pro marketers cuz it's so inexpensive and runs on just about any newer Windows machine.

Might just get Apple motivated.

There's a petition that's worth checking out to ask Apple to either relegate FCPX to iMovie status or to sell FCP7 software rights to another company to continue it as a professional program:

Difference between posting this video on Vimeo to Youtube is like chalk and cheese when it comes to comments. On one, like minded people can have a debate about an issue, whereas on the other it turns into a moronic bloodbath, full of chavs and neanderthals screaming blue murder and cowardly and rudely throwing insults.
