  • This is defenitely Salsa. If you learn cuban style you learn those steps, because you do those steps, right before turns, most of the time. Its because salsa cubana is in a circle movement.

In north America you like always learn LA, NY or Puerto Rican Style. They are almost the same and have more like a line movement.

  • this is not salsa but ketchup

  • I have never being a successful salsa dancer, but in all my failed attempts to learn, I never saw enything like this. This is not salsa!

  • Text is in the way of seeing the feet

  • This is a freaking cumbia not salsa!!!!! get it straight!!

  • hey dis was cumbia

  • this is cumbia not salsa !

  • me aburres!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ce n'est pas de la cumbia, mais c'est le pas que l'on appelle, le classique en salsa.

  • gringo

  • This is different to what my dance tutor's instruction for Salsa but I have no idea what is a cumbia.

  • @CommanderUTube This is a basic salsa step that is used a lot in Cuban salsa and in South America. In the United States and countries heavily influenced by American salsa such as the UK and Puerto Rico, the basic step is done in a slot or straight line.

Cumbia is a Colombian dance that is actually just two steps, not 1,2,3 pause. However, in Colombia they dance South American salsa to Cumbia music a lot and people have confused that with the actual cumbia dance.

  • Thanks for the insight. Doing it in a slot would be much safer for me as I had recovered from strokes (reasonable mild ones) and I cannot afford a heavy fall

  • You're welcome. Salsa has variations from country to country and people often think that what they see at home or at congresos is "it". The first person to teach me salsa basics was actually Colombian and he did this very step. It is also used or something very similar, in dancing vallenato, another Colombian type of music. He is also the one who showed me genuine cumbia dancing but then said "but this is folkloric dancing and most people just dance salsa to cumbia".

  • Thank you for sharing all the same. You are adding value to the world and make the world a better place. :)

  • eh that was a cumbia

  • that wasn't salsa that was cumbia without the kick!!!

  • This looks more like cumbia

  • neta bailas horrible

  • this is soo hard to learn :(

  • je n'ai pas trouver terrible ,

  • I thought tapping on the first beat (instead sliding heels diagonally) was what differentiated the salsa from the mambo???

    make up ur minds ppl!

  • Geez people!! Stop criticizing her!! She is just teaching some basic moves. The video is labeled for beginners, if you had not noticed. If you want to critique someone, do it on the video for advanced. Which I guess these comments are very old.

  • Actually, she's dancing cumbia, not salsa. There's suppose to be a pause after the 3rd count without traveling the feet. But at least she's trying.

  • I have to say that I'm not impressed with her dancing. She is moving her feet and not her body. Real salsa is danced with your body not your feet. She's good ad describing her method, but she's got a long way to go to get it right.

  • freakin racists!

  • and this chick is an expert? racist stupid b&%)#*. "authentic"?? someone teach her how to dance and tell her what salsa is about.

  • Stop being so racist and ignorant you idiot. Don't you know that SALSA is known and people dance to it worldwide. Educate yourself especially when you write.

  • totally agree with bocachula73, know yor basics before you comment. some people can't count foot steps, so they use words...

you are so good, why don't you put up instructional videos yourself and let's see how good you can be...

  • some people...white people u mean....

  • why do you have to be such a racist...

I said some people to generalise everyone, whites, blacks, asians, latins and others...

  • im not racist. i travel the U S . and every were i go. the count is always the same. ( when u get profecional lessons) 123 567. so i wonder? who thaught them?

  • good

  • she said if I'm a girl. Is this beginning step for girls only?
