I know many Arab students here who are sent with their government scholarship but only thing they do is clubbing and eventually getting kicked out of university each semester due to their low CGPA (below 1.5!)

About the books, I have studied Persian history along with Arabic history. And I reached the conclusion that Islam was enforced to Iranians as well as Arabic language. Look up the Gundishapur Accademy on wikipedia. It had the largest library in pre-Islamic Iran. It not only survived the conquest, but was later funded by the Abbasid Caliphs and it's books were translated into Arabic.
It was composed almost exclusively of translations of Greek literature, which is why the later 'Islamic Golden Age' owed so much to the Greeks. Pre-Islamic Iran simply didn't create much.

In addition, that is not the only example of such an act. Under another ruler Gotaibeh ibn Muslim in Khwarezmia, all the historians, writers, and mobeds were massacred and their books burned in fire, so that after one generation, the people became illiterate.
I don't doubt that Qutaibah Ibn Muslim killed a alot of people, as even Arabic sources refered to him as harsh, but any impartial reading of the facts will show that he couldn't have called all literate Khwarezmians as he hired many as scribes in his administrration. The indigenous alphabet of Iran is Pahlavi. The Persian word for "book" is "nameh."

The Abbasid Caliphate made more contributions to human progress in just 200 years than Persian civilisation could manage in over a millenium.

Sa'ad Andolsosi in his book "Classes of People" highly praised the knowledge of Iranians of that period in mathematics and astronomy.

I know many Arab students here who are sent with their government scholarship but only thing they do is clubbing and eventually getting kicked out of university each semester due to their low CGPA (below 1.5!)

About the books, I have studied Persian history along with Arabic history. And I reached the conclusion that Islam was enforced to Iranians as well as Arabic language. Look up the Gundishapur Accademy on wikipedia. It had the largest library in pre-Islamic Iran. It not only survived the conquest, but was later funded by the Abbasid Caliphs and it's books were translated into Arabic.
It was composed almost exclusively of translations of Greek literature, which is why the later 'Islamic Golden Age' owed so much to the Greeks. Pre-Islamic Iran simply didn't create much.

I brought up Gundishapur to illustrate the fact that the burning of a single library cannot account for the near complete lack of Irani literature from this period. A more plausible explanation is that the culture did not put much emphasis on writing, as evidenced by it's lack of an indigenous alphabet and the fact that Farsi has no word for book except the Arabic loanword 'Kitaab'.

In addition, that is not the only example of such an act. Under another ruler Gotaibeh ibn Muslim in Khwarezmia, all the historians, writers, and mobeds were massacred and their books burned in fire, so that after one generation, the people became illiterate.

Although the Achaemenids were well aware of written texts, the Parthians, under Greek influence, were really the first to document their knowledge; most of their work were subsequently destroyed by the Sassanids to legitimize their rule.
The indigenous alphabet of Iran is Pahlavi. The Persian word for "book" is "nameh."

Pahlavi derives from the Aramaic writing system, as does the Arabic script via the Syriac script.

The Abbasid Caliphate would have never been what they were without the knowledge of the Persians in administration; let's not forget the strongest families in the Caliphate, such as the Barkamids, were Persian. I'll say it again. Gundishapur Library, the greatest in pre-Islamic Iran, survived the Arab conquest and was even funded by the Abbasid Caliphs who translated it's books into Arabic. Almost all of them were translations of Greek work. There was almost no original Farsi literature.

I never understood the dichotomy here. Iranians bow down to an Arab God, but at the same time, they (understandably) hate Arabs. Very baffling. Arguably, the worst thing that happen to Iran, was the Islamic theocracy which established itself. That was a big step towards Arabizing Iranians.
