The world consumes 30 billion barrels of oil a year.
According to "analysts" in this video there are 1 trillion barrels left.
1 trillion divided by 30 billion is 33.3 recurring.
33 and a third years of oil left for the world
If all the other oil he mentioned adds up to 1 trillion barrels (which is a massive overestimation), there is 66.6 recurring years of oil left in the world.
I want to see americans live in their suburbs with happy faces, when their gas price is so high, it takes half of their wages each month. Tar sands will be expensive oil.
If you read some of the original books on peak oil, the theory has debunked its self as it implies that energy production would never surpass the total output of the 1955-1960 period has Hubbert predicted.
Check out energyweapon.blogspot.com for a weekly discussion on the politics and economics of the oil and gas industry
USA oil demand is in decline from 67% imports to now only 49% imports. Most experts think that trend will continue with imports in the future only accounting for 35%. This is due to conventiona Hybrids, soft hybrids, plugin hybrids, Full electric cars, Hydrogen powered buses, Natural gas powered trucks, ethanol, Methanol, Compressed gas forklift trcks and last but just as important advances in aerodynamics, lighter weight cars- composite materials and improvements in the ICE efficency to 75mpg
Tar sands have a terrible energy investment ratio, before you get to things like water usage for processing and the deleterious effects of strip mining vast tracts of land, your better off finding ways to sensibly reduce usage than increase supply via the tar sands.
We are not running out of oil - but we are running out of CHEAP oil. When the oil prices rise, so does the demand. That will lead not to oil running out - but raher its price (and the related prices) escaping from the consumers.
Canadian oilsand cannot be used instantly, and the extraction process itself will eat the most of the oil gained from the oilsand. That means that cost of using that oilsand is HUGE.
Russia is now the world's largest producer eclipsing the Sauds. And, the tar sands recoverable numbers rely too much on gas and fresh water so "recoverable" oil is a bit of BS.

U.S. has 750-800 Billion barrels of recoverable oil in the Green River Formation. Only thing is that it will take about 10 years to get production on a full commercial scale.
@TheStarvingSamurai Its a low grade resource. It takes almost as much energy to pull it out of the ground as you get from pulling it out of the ground, and thats the best quality material in the formation. The deep and poor quality stuff forget about it. The commercial producers are also up the creek if the economy tanks and the price drops because then oil shale is a very good way to loose money.

There is a very simple, easy to understand problem with tar sands. That for every barrel you get out of it, you have to invest a barrel and a half. Thats why without cheap oil its totally unpractical.
Most of the countries he mentions here have peaked. Over half of the Oil producing countries in the world have peaked.
America peaked decades ago, and the idea that they enjoy using so much foreing oil because it brings them profit is total nonsense.

@SSgtParmer The difference is, instead of dealing with a bunch of goat herders, youd be dealing with a much more patriotic population that per capita, owns more firearms then the US.
HEY let's get OIL from The Anwarrs right now/////time to stop the BS and see this as threat to all Security in USA ....TIme to digg baby digg..right SARAH P>?? SHE agree completely
It already is, and has been a part of the oil mix for decades.
There is no distinction between "cheap" oil and "expensive" oil at the pump. We pay the same market price for "cheap" and "expensive" oil. As long as the cost of extraction is less than $10/bbl below market price for oil, "expensive" oil is viable.
in the end brazil will have the last say, i always thought they had no chance no i say theymight be the next world power, cheap labouir, large amount of resources, portuguese galp just discovered 2 big oil reserves and bought them in amazon florest, seems like brazil is sitting on oil sea, bigger then arab one, too bad usa only attacks weak countrys that cant actually defend themselfs, like any bully does
NO DIPSHIT THE CANADIAN OIL WILL BRING SO MUCH ECOLOGICAL DESTRUCTION TO UNDERGROUND WATER AND THERE WILL BE SO MUCH SPENDING OF ENERGY TO GET THE OIL OUT IN THE END YOU WILL SPEND MORE ENERGY TAKING THE OIL THEN THE MONEY FOR IT, NOT SPEAKING ABOUT THE DESTRUCTION OF LARGES PARTS OF CANADIAN FLOREST AND SUBWATER WHAT CANADA WAS IS CALLED SANDCRUDE IS WATER SAND MIXED WITH CRUDE, YOU NEED LARGE AMOUNTS OF ENERGY TO GET IT, OIL IS DEATH ANYWAY SOLAR, ANTI GRAVITY ENERGY IS THE FUTURE NO DOUBT
@SSgtParmer So the USA is prepared to become a global tyrant (a la Nazis) to have their way of life, forsaking all others? What about your founders and your view of "freedom". So Canada cannot be free and democratic, by your decision? A war against an ally to secure oil won't be supported by the American people - ever. Especially for an amount of oil that will only sustain the USA's consumption for 5 years. It could supply Canada for 75 years - and that is why we should be sitting on it
Don't get too excited about tar sands. It takes one barrel of oil imputs to wring two barrels of oil production out of them so you might as well halve the reserves right from the start. As far as oil shale goes has anyone come up with a workable way of extracing the oil from it? And if so how much less efficient than the tar sands process is it?
PLEASE STOP TAKING THE OIL OUT OF THE EARTH ..THE OIL IS THE BLOOD OF THE EARTH ............IF I TAKE THE BLOOD OUT OF YOUR BODY ....WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO YOU??? YOU WILL DIE THE SAME WITH THE EARTH THE EARTH WILL SINK DIE AND WE ALL ARE GOING TO DIE ALONG WITH IT
PLEASE STOP ...ALL OF YOU OIL MAGNATES SHOULD GO TO ELECTRIC AND ATOMIC POWER 100% PLEASE PLEASE STOP STOP !!!LETS GO BACK TO HORSES AND BICYCLES ETC LETS STOP THIS NONSENSE I HOPE THIS MESSAGE IS READ BY THE WHOLE WORLD
@HUGOINGINO stfu u drama fag!..... horses and bicycles? how bout be be the ginea pig and sell you home for some horses and bicycles while everyone drives cars!
@mickeymoo26 Currently it is 87 million barrels a day * 365 = 31.775 billion barrels a year. And we are getting more and more into the deep, thick, hard to get out = more expensive oil now.
Well, how are we going to replace the 3-8 percent annual decline rates of all these mature oil fields that we've been living on? Tar sands and Brazil is a net energy joke...We're only not drilling on 21 billion barrels? 21 billion barrels can't even feed the world for 9 months...
The day the USA goes dry there will be a global powershift where the mighty America will dance on the puppetstrings of other nations. Think about it. Once the USA is 100% importing (in 2040 or 2050), one simple change in international oil policy (such as hoarding your own and maintaining your own societies way of life) will most likely happen. Picture an oil-less USA. That is why the USA is nearly too late in getting this alternative energy thing going - it should have started 15 years ago
thats why america can destroy any army at any time they want, and they will for oil. we went to iraq on a lie think about what we will do over life and death. also theres more oil out there america and canada need each other and once they stop caring about an oil field destroying some pretty mountains we again will rise to the top 4 in oil production. believe me when i say we have plenty of oil for the next 25 years before new techniques may be needed to get the deeper oil in the oceans
So the hallowed America will become a violent global tyrant, throw out its constitution, the Geneva convention, and attack other innocent neighboring allies (like Canada) in order to secure oil ? If so, then WTF is half your nation worried about Obama being the antichrist and "ruining America" boogeyman theories? If the USA came to attacking ALLIES, it would be done as a nation. Tear up everything your forefathers created? BTW, the WORLD ARMY could easily destroy your army - anytime they want.
pat442389: Plenty of oil for the next 25 years without difficult recovery? Sure. Great. But what about the babies born *today*?? What will they be using 70-80 years from now? Nothing - that's what. The oil age will be but a blip on the timeline of human existence - around 200 years. What about the next 1000? You and I will be dead, yeah. But if you plan to live the next 40-50 years, you WILL see the end of oil in your lifetime.
The key point here is "They have for an American Consuption for next 25 generations", I don't believe on it because the USA consuption is huge, and the entire world will need aswell or untill there mabe another fuel could be used instead of Oil (but for plastic products there isn't any substitute yet)...Mabe USA is thinking about "earn" a huge bucket of World Wide money exporting Oil when the other reserves ended..
Oh Americans, swallowing it like a drunk chugging swill... all of these global sources yet you think when times get tough and things are going dry...they're going to be all tankering it to the USA? HELL NO! I am Canadian, and if the tar sands have this alleged future of being so rich, it's OURS REGARDLESS. A day will come where we will hoard it as our own, and sustain our way of life well beyond the USA being bone dry. Other countries will do the same. The USA will go dry first - no question
Both Canada & Saudi reserves can be burned up in 15-20 years, at current rates of consumption. People think trillions of barrels are something huge...uh, no. They obviously don't know rates of consumption today. It's staggering - and growing faster every day/week/month. On a global scale, EVERY WELL WILL BE DRY BY 2060. Actually, most of you reading this right now will live to see the day. Scared yet? Well I am. That is why we had better get into other energies as soon as possible.
hey dip shit canada only has 178 billion RECOVERABLE barrels of oil, so unless you have the secret new technology that's going to unlock the rest of the oil then shut the fuck up. Oh and 178 billion will only be enough for 5 years at the current rate of consumption. a lot of fucking good that does us.
@loverofmudkip , Canada has potentially 100 times what they are extracting. as years and technology changes, Canada will be piss rich in the liquid gold more than they already are. pays to be the 2nd largest country on earth when you only have 35 million mouths to feed.
@stilleavy The USA has trillions of barrells of oil shale that the environmentalists have under control there.....in Canada they are just producing oil at a cost though
Thats right 178 billion RECOVERABLE with todays technology, but the tar sands hold 1.7 Trillion barrels of oil. Canada will just need to use technology to recover this oil, its only a matter of time buddy, we are the greatest assets in the world, and lets not forget we have 25% of the fresh water in the world CHEERS
No the 178 billion can produce for 100 years or more. STFU you dipshit, and yes there is research being done to extract more. There are 2 Trillion Barrels of oil, in ALberta, if it can be recovered. SO STFU we are doing the research.
@CanadianIndian88 The tar sands use an insane amount of energy just to turn it into a very low quality heavy crude. Although there is a vast supply of it, the daily output will never be more than a few million barrels a day. And 2 trillion barrels? They will be lucky to extract 40-50 billion before it's not worth it anymore.
@loverofmudkip its not efficient. how do you think they're getting the oil. They take hours of pure mining for huge machines that run on petroleum. Then they take it to the factory and heat it up to try and seperate the sands and the oil. That takes even more petroleum to do.
@loverofmudkip i do its called water. run a static electric charge through it and produce hydrogen. burn it and produce more water. basic science. oil has been an outmoded technology almost since it's inception. only corruption and politics keep it alive.oh by the way i am canadian. also the experts lead us to believe that oil is a finite resourse, however this may not be true. the term fossil fuel is very misleading. creating false scarcity and demand is nothing new in the marketplace.
You forgot Greece with 50 Billions Barrell...

There is no distinction between "cheap" oil and "expensive" oil at the pump. We pay the same market price for "cheap" and "expensive" oil. As long as the cost of extraction is less than $10/bbl below market price for oil, "expensive" oil is viable.

in the end brazil will have the last say, i always thought they had no chance no i say theymight be the next world power, cheap labouir, large amount of resources, portuguese galp just discovered 2 big oil reserves and bought them in amazon florest, seems like brazil is sitting on oil sea, bigger then arab one, too bad usa only attacks weak countrys that cant actually defend themselfs, like any bully does
badsign1980 1 year ago
NO DIPSHIT THE CANADIAN OIL WILL BRING SO MUCH ECOLOGICAL DESTRUCTION TO UNDERGROUND WATER AND THERE WILL BE SO MUCH SPENDING OF ENERGY TO GET THE OIL OUT IN THE END YOU WILL SPEND MORE ENERGY TAKING THE OIL THEN THE MONEY FOR IT, NOT SPEAKING ABOUT THE DESTRUCTION OF LARGES PARTS OF CANADIAN FLOREST AND SUBWATER WHAT CANADA WAS IS CALLED SANDCRUDE IS WATER SAND MIXED WITH CRUDE, YOU NEED LARGE AMOUNTS OF ENERGY TO GET IT, OIL IS DEATH ANYWAY SOLAR, ANTI GRAVITY ENERGY IS THE FUTURE NO DOUBT
badsign1980 1 year ago
@badsign1980 Anti Gravity energy? And you dont need to use the caps lock, I think we're all adults here.

22 Billion barrels of oil per year for the world
(60 Million a day * 365)
mickeymoo26 1 year ago

That is why the USA is nearly too late in getting this alternative energy thing going - it should have started 15 years ago
kevinwayte 2 years ago
kevin-
that's why the US will invade Canada lol
copperhead46 2 years ago
thats why america can destroy any army at any time they want, and they will for oil. we went to iraq on a lie think about what we will do over life and death. also theres more oil out there america and canada need each other and once they stop caring about an oil field destroying some pretty mountains we again will rise to the top 4 in oil production. believe me when i say we have plenty of oil for the next 25 years before new techniques may be needed to get the deeper oil in the oceans
pat442389 2 years ago
So the hallowed America will become a violent global tyrant, throw out its constitution, the Geneva convention, and attack other innocent neighboring allies (like Canada) in order to secure oil ? If so, then WTF is half your nation worried about Obama being the antichrist and "ruining America" boogeyman theories? If the USA came to attacking ALLIES, it would be done as a nation. Tear up everything your forefathers created? BTW, the WORLD ARMY could easily destroy your army - anytime they want.
kevinwayte 2 years ago
yes you are rite...! im with you
shagedalic69 2 years ago
pat442389: Plenty of oil for the next 25 years without difficult recovery? Sure. Great. But what about the babies born *today*?? What will they be using 70-80 years from now? Nothing - that's what. The oil age will be but a blip on the timeline of human existence - around 200 years. What about the next 1000? You and I will be dead, yeah. But if you plan to live the next 40-50 years, you WILL see the end of oil in your lifetime.
kevinwayte 2 years ago
@kevinwayte
RaruphoElfei 2 years ago
Not if the US goes dry last....
You think maybe the powers that be didn't think of that one half a century ago ;)
Fitzcard 2 years ago
Oh Americans, swallowing it like a drunk chugging swill... all of these global sources yet you think when times get tough and things are going dry...they're going to be all tankering it to the USA? HELL NO! I am Canadian, and if the tar sands have this alleged future of being so rich, it's OURS REGARDLESS. A day will come where we will hoard it as our own, and sustain our way of life well beyond the USA being bone dry. Other countries will do the same. The USA will go dry first - no question

Canada is just under Saudi Arabia at rank #2 in the world for oil reserves with
178,900,000,000 barrels.
iLuvBarRefaeli 2 years ago
Both Canada & Saudi reserves can be burned up in 15-20 years, at current rates of consumption. People think trillions of barrels are something huge...uh, no. They obviously don't know rates of consumption today. It's staggering - and growing faster every day/week/month. On a global scale, EVERY WELL WILL BE DRY BY 2060. Actually, most of you reading this right now will live to see the day. Scared yet? Well I am. That is why we had better get into other energies as soon as possible.
kevinwayte 2 years ago
This guy is wrong. Alberta actually has 5 times more oil than the middle east
leafblower 3 years ago
hey dip shit canada only has 178 billion RECOVERABLE barrels of oil, so unless you have the secret new technology that's going to unlock the rest of the oil then shut the fuck up. Oh and 178 billion will only be enough for 5 years at the current rate of consumption. a lot of fucking good that does us.
loverofmudkip 2 years ago 24
settle down lol
leafblower 2 years ago
@loverofmudkip , Canada has potentially 100 times what they are extracting. as years and technology changes, Canada will be piss rich in the liquid gold more than they already are. pays to be the 2nd largest country on earth when you only have 35 million mouths to feed.
stilleavy 1 year ago
@stilleavy The USA has trillions of barrells of oil shale that the environmentalists have under control there.....in Canada they are just producing oil at a cost though
jmallton 1 year ago
Thats right 178 billion RECOVERABLE with todays technology, but the tar sands hold 1.7 Trillion barrels of oil. Canada will just need to use technology to recover this oil, its only a matter of time buddy, we are the greatest assets in the world, and lets not forget we have 25% of the fresh water in the world CHEERS
Pooga1234 1 year ago
@Pooga1234 Don't forget 2nd largest land mass as well.
ostapslobodian 1 year ago
@loverofmudkip
No the 178 billion can produce for 100 years or more. STFU you dipshit, and yes there is research being done to extract more. There are 2 Trillion Barrels of oil, in ALberta, if it can be recovered. SO STFU we are doing the research.
CanadianIndian88 1 year ago
@CanadianIndian88 The tar sands use an insane amount of energy just to turn it into a very low quality heavy crude. Although there is a vast supply of it, the daily output will never be more than a few million barrels a day. And 2 trillion barrels? They will be lucky to extract 40-50 billion before it's not worth it anymore.
TIKIMAN198 1 year ago
@loverofmudkip its not efficient. how do you think they're getting the oil. They take hours of pure mining for huge machines that run on petroleum. Then they take it to the factory and heat it up to try and seperate the sands and the oil. That takes even more petroleum to do.
Willsturd 9 months ago
@loverofmudkip i do its called water. run a static electric charge through it and produce hydrogen. burn it and produce more water. basic science. oil has been an outmoded technology almost since it's inception. only corruption and politics keep it alive.oh by the way i am canadian. also the experts lead us to believe that oil is a finite resourse, however this may not be true. the term fossil fuel is very misleading. creating false scarcity and demand is nothing new in the marketplace.
