My take: ill-conceived premise, and wrong-headed production value.
There is nothing heroic about 5:02 on Fridays anymore. Most people do it, and so what? The reward is light beer?
Does not light beer, no matter how it is packaged, still imply lack of flavor to the viewer? Light Beer is not a reward.
Production value was "too indie".
If the premise here was to emulate an
Evil Kenievel[sic] style event, all of those
were TV specials with high production value.

Maybe you'd enjoy the show more if you worked in or near the advertising industry (like most of the people who enjoy & watch this show, and fund it's production)
