  • when will we ever see a talent like bea arthur again!

  • How is it that today, with hundreds of stations available on TV, there isn't anything that comes remotely close to the entertainment value of these wonderful old shows?

  • Well, I couldn't. It was his apartment.....

  • I think that's Darcel Wynn from Solid Gold in the front row of the chorus next to Rock.

  • melba moore is halarious in this.

She was actually considered to play Maleficent in the Disney version of Sleeping Beauty, she reminds me of Maleficent with that robe on!. ( i love the robe! )

  • They call him Brother Roy. Rock's real name is Roy. :)

  • This was hilarious!! I see a few of the Solid Gold Dancers in the choir too!!!

  • B Arthur and Madame... Two of the greatest of all time!

  • I love this skit. Bea Arthur was a great comedian and actress she will be missed R.I.{ Bea

  • This is absolutely hilarious!

Bea Arthur will be truly missed - what a tremendous talent.

  • Bea Arthur was a consumate comedian and Rock Hudson could be a lot of fun too.

  • Yes, Hudson was very funny on an episode of "I Love Lucy," in the season of episodes when "Ricky Ricardo" was making a movie in Hollywood, so Lucy and "The Mertzes" went with him.

Rock, playing himself, told a sad story to Lucy & "Ethel Mertz" (sitting by the pool of a hotel at which they were staying) about a script girl named "Adele Sliff," whose husband would never again whistle.

  • Rock's sad story was part of a scheme by "Ricky & Fred" to put one over on their wives, after the couples feuded over their mates' annoying habits and the girls split for Palm Springs, leaving their husbands behind..

    Lucy: "No more [whistle]?"

    Rock: "NO more [whistle]."

This will all make sense if one watches Episode #123 from Season 4 of "I Love Lucy," with special guest star Rock Hudson.

"I LOVE LUCY" is a DESILU Production.

  • Gymnastix, did you know Desilu was 1 of only 3 studios ever owned, even if in part, by a woman? The others being United Artists and Harpo.

  • I knew Lucy was in partnership, then bought out Desi in 1960, or shortly after their divorce, then sold to Paramount/Gulf-Western about 1968..

I guess with United Artists you are referring to the consortium of Charlie Chaplin & "Pickfair" (Mary Pickford & Douglas Fairbanks)..

And "Harpo" is an anagram of Oprah.

Actually, there may be more, because Donna Reed and her first husband, Tony Owen, followed the Desilu mold and formed "Todon" to produce "The Donna Reed Show."

  • Wasn't there a 4th person along with Chaplin and Pickfair? Who was it?

I had never heard that "Todon" was a studio. Are you sure it wasn't a production company without big facilities?

  • CLASSIC! Melba "anything for a friend!" eyes roll!

  • luv melba so good

  • Bea Arthur is the bomb. This is one of my favorite skits with her. She was such a dry comic. The best in the business

  • Best Madame Lines
