The Bear could easily kill the cougar. it just didn't feel like fighting. it wanted food not a fight but a cougar is no match at all for a Grizzly bear. Maybe the smaller much smaller black bear but never a full grown grizzly against a full grown cougar. Not enought a fare fight. Try bringing a Tiger or a African lion to that fight not a small cougar

In an actual fight situations, like the animal fighting pits they used to have in California, Bears almost always win, not only against cougars, but also against imported adult male lions from Africa, often in a single swipe of the paws.
