Jesus Christ, lay off the airhorn! Half the time there was nobody in front of you. That was completely unnecessary. There is a right way and a wrong way to utilize the horn and that wasn't it. If the cars are already out of your way, why blast them? Use the horns when a car is failing to yield or you are going through an intersection. All you gotta do is a few taps to get people's attention. No reason to swing from the chain to the entire call.
@hvjcvhfjv lol, well when you have SPACE cadets driving cars listening to their headfones or ipads on max, oblivious to everything to the extent they run thru red lights- ya NEED the air horn coming up on cross streets and intersections!
Im 16 and this is what ive always wanted to do, love what you men and women do, god bless you all, thank you for you service and keep up the great work
ok..a little pissed at the person in the officers chair.....you have no fucking business doing anything with that air horn cord. that is the drivers responsability. too many times have i seen a truck have serious problems stopping because the guy on the right went ape shit with the air horns , therefore depleting the air pressure to stop the truck. if it had been me driving...you would have been walking. i am a 20 year vet of the fire service and shaking my head at mr. hero in the front seat.
@RepoDennis13 No theyre the same system. Actually there is two air brake systems if I remeber right, ones the service brake and the other is the parking brake. But the horn works off of one of the tanks.
I wish I was the man pulling that chain, He,s having a ball, I was in Iraq on that date, Great video, Thanks for what you all do, May God Bless you all and your familys!
@ColchesterFire Your welcome, Its an honor to serve, Thank you for what you do, I was a volunteer for 9 years including 2 years heavy rescue, May God Bless you all and your familys!
@MrSberube We can be busy, but we run between 600 and 650 calls per year, which is a lot for our area considering we are completely volunteer and also that we do not run any ambulance services (we DO run some first response calls, but there is a separate ambulance service in our town). Glad you enjoyed the video!
"Fortunately, it ended up being a false alarm"? Sorry, but I don't see any fortunate about that. That could have prevented you from responding to a REAL fire...
We agree that malicious alarms are both a nuisance and could potentially hamper our response to a "real" fire. We do everything possible through fire prevention and public education to minimize that type of call (we have actually seen a steady decline in malicious calls over the past several years). The ending statement, "Fortunately, it ended up being a false alarm" was as opposed to encountering a serious threat to life, the environment or property at this call.
We'd love to have another member! All you need to do is move to Colchester, VT and apply! Thanks for the comment-it IS a lot of fun being a firefighter on the CCVFC!
Thanks for keeping my town safe guys. If you see a car pulled over almost unnecessarily too far over so you can get by that's me. I'll accept the temporary deafness I get every time you scream by my car window for what you fine people do everyday!
Thanks for the compliment! We appreciate the support we get from our wonderful community, and we do our best in return to provide the highest level of service to Colchester.
Thanks to some judicious editing, we were able to make it look like he was constantly on the horn and siren. The overall response time was about 7 minutes, so you're seeing the "best of" moments in this video. Including lots of air horn!
Now that guy know's how to work a horn!!!

It certainly IS a Sutphen! Our engine 3 (in video), 4, 5, and Tower 41 are all Sutphens.
