  • THE BAND NAME ON MY 45 IS SPELLED WRONG TOO....

  • I would like to have an oldies station that focuses on hit songs from the mid 50s to the early 70s and for the stations to play at least 10,000 songs randomly instead of just 500 or so songs

  • @Doobie1975-We are lucky to have one here in the Tacoma/Seattle area.KMCQ. The best part is they don't even play commercials.

  • Wish Indianapolis had a oldies station. Ours went away about 2 yrs ago. Now we have only CRAP radio.

  • Thumbs up if Ron Mann's "Grass" brought you here.

  • I had forgotten about this tune until I heard yesterday on the oldies station. Fun song, good memories, Thanks.

  • on the 45 i have, it says wadsworth manison instead of " mansion ". if anyone else has the 45 with that typo let me know lol

  • @mynamehappy Yep, I saw them...what was that all about??

  • great song, how come you never hear this song on the AM/FM stations considering this song was a Top 10 hit?

  • This seems to be a K-Tel re-recording. There was a closer to the 45 version and better stereo recording of "Sweet Mary" on an old Ampex compilation tape of various artists called "Million Sellers." I just like that version better than this one and the 45 version. Most people like the mono 45 version that fades out as it was what was played on radio. The version I mention is a slightly different version because it is in true stereo and has a 'cold" ending and not fade out.

  • Why?

    Mary not sweet?

  • My Dad was the drummer for this band years ago. I enjoy hearing his stories about them. Showed him this on youtube and he almost cried.

  • @cflannery490564 if he was whatever happened to all the members and why does nobody remember this band but me, i am only 52

  • @jswehmeyer69 Idk what happened to them, I dont believe he kept in contact with the guys. He became the drummer a little after this song was released. Im pretty sure they were all meth heads. Hes 63 now.

  • This song is a real time warp for me. Great song, great memories of the music from the mid 60's to very early 70's. After that music turned to crap for the most part.

  • Didn't know it had a Cold ending-on the K-Tel version on "20 Power Hits" it faded out before it ended!

  • Two different versions of this single were released: one in which the song fades out and the other in which it fully ends. The latter is a lot harder to find -- but learly the best. And that's what you hear here! This hit peaked at #7 in January 1971 over a 14 week chart run as Sussex 209.

  • HAHA! First time I ever heard this song was from a tinny AM radio mounted to the right fender of a John Deere 4010 tractor. I actually idled the tractor's engine down so I could hear the music!

    Good times...

  • Brings many happy memories,of my friends and me smoken.

  • Anyone else see the tits that got slipped in there at the end?

  • Sweet Mary & Jesus, too.

  • LOVE the last shot in this vid!

  • LOVE THIS SONG...THANKS FOR POSTING...

  • The romantic in me likes to think that this clip is a mini-DaVinci code set of clues showing the actualy Wadsworth Mansion, then and now, scenes from around the band's stomping grounds in Rhode Island and that the final shot could be the namesake, Sweet Mary, in all her, uh, natural glory.

  • Mary is a boring name. so is Jane. so is Catherine. so is Debra.

  • @cartman52071 lol, ok

  • Ha! What a great song from my 'musical awakening years' 1970-1974. Thank you for posting it. I feel like I'm 11/12 again.

  • @Drewster58 11 or 12, then drink your beer or you'll be put to bed

    without any taco's.

  • Love love love this song, not only because my uncle Steve and mike are in the band but because it's brilliant.

  • @shmoooopy1972 Brilliant and then some! I heard it driving home from work today, and have listened to this clip on Youtube over and over and over and,...

Beyond cool that you are related to people in the band. Did you ever ask em about this song?

Also, tell me how we went from this...to the Jonas Brothers in 40 short years!

  • When it comes to '70s songs with a cowbell in them, this song would still surpass the number of cowbell hits of all of those songs grouped together. Once it gets to "Hop a freight," well, look out! Still, a great song.

  • east providence representtttt! (sort of)

  • It is a staple on the True Oldies Channel.

  • Now this is my kind of music. Sweet Mary I'm Cummin for you

  • What's with the picture at the end? I heard this song on the radio today and loved it!

  • Play the fip sdie- "What's on Tonight"

  • I wish someone would play the flip side of the record, "What's on Tonight?"

  • have always loved this song. thanks for posting...

  • For all you oldies seekers, Jefferson High School in Lafayette, IN, plays ALL oldies ALL the time, no talking, no commercials -- find it on the internet at JEFF92 dot ORG -- they play GOBS of one-hit wonders!

  • I remember when i was in 7th grade and the first time i heard this song i was wow what an interesting tune --with the cow bell and all. 1970 is when i remember it coming out. Very good to hear it again. Thanks for posting

  • fantastic thanks for uploading

  • This is the version with the proper ending. Most versions on compilations fade it out too early!

  • Unfortunately, most of the oldies stations skip the one hit wonders and songs that didn't make it into the top 10.

  • @GaryG660 It reached number 7. But those robot-oldies stations seem to have a bias against one-hit-wonders.

  • @lrd9999 - Radio stations today have a bias against songs that aren't 'familiar' enough! It's really sad that most stations today have a playlist of only about 500 songs; a travesty! There's NO excuse for nay station to have a playlist of less than 1,000 titles, and that's still pathetic IMNSHO!

  • The Song has a Really Nice Ending :)

  • Love the sound of this song! I heard it a few weeks ago on my favorite radio station.(The True Oldies Channel) Maybe they'll play it again soon! :o)

  • I remember one day in like 1970 they played this song like 5 times in a row. It was so popular. I remember the b-side to this 45 record, it was "What's on tonight?"

  • Wop. Wa-doo-ba-de-wop-wop-wop-wah-ah-op. Another one of the great doo-wop "signatures".

  • You know, I got a need......a need for COWBELL!

  • great song, wish it would be a staple on the Oldies stations

  • @Doobie1975 If you like good oldies, google KFXM - stream that for a few minutes. You won't believe all the songs you never hear anymore!

  • sounds alittle bit like the guess who

  • not really.....I has spoken

  • The song has what I call the typical early- to mid- 1970s 'pop-rock' sound.

  • This song topped at number 7 on Feb 27, 1971

  • Wow l haven't heard this in years. Also love the final scene in this video. ; )

Did this song ever hit the charts? lf so, how high?

  • I went to a wedding at the Wadsworth Mansion in CT. Crazy awesome place, crazy awesome song!

  • I live just a few miles away, lol. Were these guys from Middletown?

  • love the last pic, great song

  • What year did this wonderful song come out?

  • 1971...I forget if it was early in the year or near the time summer vacation began. By the final chorus, I feel like swaying and clapping along!
