Randy Rhoads will NEVER have the legendary status of Eddie Van halen/Jimi Hendrix/Jimmy page/Eric Clapton/Brian May and a few others. Rhoads doesnt deserve it for one thing. I know when i think of guitars legends its the ones mentioned not Randy Rhoads.
When guitar legends are talk about its always Eddie van halen and jimi hendrix and Eric Clapton and jimmy page. never does any one mention Randy Rhoads in the company of these legends mentioned because hes not worthy at all to be with these legends.
Guitar player international some years back named Eddie Van halen and Jimi Hendrix the two most important and influental guitarist of all time. And you most certainly can not argue that one at all. Because they are hands down.
Randy Rhoads over the Master,Genuis Eddie Van halen. Not even close to the truth. Eddie VH is the total master and genius of Electric guitar. Rhoads was good but no weres good enough.Eddie van halen = total genuis!
Well As Good As Randy is Eddie Does It More He Was inspired By Eddie Plus Since He Died People Love Him More But If It Was Eddie Who Died Then It Would BE The Other Way Around
@THEFLYINGREDNECK Ya He Died Hes Dead Thats Why Everyone Likes Him Cause Hes Dead When They Die There Legends If It Was Eddie Who Died Every One Would Like Him More But No Cause Hes Not Dead only Randy
@Ram777Ment just so you know, i dont like randy more because hes DEAD! i think EVH is better than hendrix but hendrix is dead. eric clapton is better than dimebag but dime is dead
@LOMAZ5150 Nice argument. So what if Randy took some influence from Eddie. Randy's main influences were Michael Schenker, Gary Moore, and Leslie West. Randy admired Eddie but that doesn't mean that without Eddie, there would be no Randy. The only EVH influence in Rhoads' playing is his live spotlight solo.
How can people try to compare both of the most influentional musicians of all time?? Both genious, both great!! Love them both, very different styles, both simply magical!!
both great amazing players randy died young cause god wanted lessons he could have chosen eddie but randy was already a teacher lol
Randy is better cause he did more than eddie he taught people how to play do you know how much patience that takes to teach people to play and randy knew every chord note and harmonic before he even thought of playing it.where eddie just picks the guitar up and plays and for not being taught hes amazing but randy is a student of the game and that takes more skills
@ozzyrrv420 I agree but Eddie didn't "just pick the guitar up and play it." He practiced. I think Eddie could do the same and teach people how to play the guitar if he wanted to. I just dont understand how you think teaching people how to play guitar makes Randy any better. Thats like saying any other regular guitar instructor is better then EVH just because they teach how to play it -__-
@hyperflash2 No your just underestimating the power of teaching, no ordinary teacher is better than EVH just because they teach. Randy kept improving and trying to find out new things about the guitar and music in general. Randy used methods based on actual musical theory and stuff while EVH just played great.
@hyperflash2 first of all what do i expect from a video that cant spell randys name right and i studied both guitarist and they are both amazing and no you cant just up and decide to teach people how to play it takes great patience and randy did it and he had not even half the time on this earth than eddie did and randy studied music his whole life look if you dont know how to play i cant explain it to you but randy is a better musician
@Schusnap Ya but what master pieces did randy make with ozzy. Blizzard of Ozz with Crazy Train which is one of the most popular songs of all time and I Dont Know and Mr. Crowly. Diary of a Madman with Flying High Again, Over The Mountain, and You Cant Kill Rock N Roll. I love EVH but you have to give it 2 Randy. EVH fingertaps all the time. EVH never took lessons. Randy wrote and taught guitar and learned from his family. Randy is more of a musician. Plus Ozzy was more popular anyways.
Eddie is great but I personally prefer Randy. Eddie was revolutionary but alot of times I hear more noise out of him than music. However Randy although very technical still played his solos with melody and musicianship, rather than just trying to show off technique which I feel Eddie does quite alot. Both amazing though.
@BlackLabelForLife NO, THUMBS DOWN!!!!!! THIS NEEDS ALL CAPS TO SHOW HOW WRONG YOU ARE!!!!!!! EVEN 6 YEARS AFTER RANDY DIED HE WAS STILL NUMBER ONE!!!!!!!! LISTEN TO THE SOLO ON "SUICIDE SOLUTION" ON THE LIVE TRIBUTE ALBUM!!!!!!!!! MAKES EDDIE SOUND LIKE A SNAIL!!!!!!!
@TANNERGRN dude dude calm down look i just wanted to see who the general public think is better i did a thumbs up! comment for randy and eddie. Chill. Be cool. Peace.
The fact that this conversation is even taking place with Randy only having 2 albums before he died compared to Eddie's decades of work shows how excellent Rhoads was. I love Edward, but Randy is just, well...Randy.
well eddie is just a guitar player and randy rhoads is a musician randy is better come on i love them both but randy is still on his own level of being not just a guitar player but musician that to this day theres no one thats ever been on his level of guitar skills hes the best
@StratBanez101 Randy was making music with Quiet Riot when EVH became popular. Ozzy called him up because he thought he was good. Randy Rhoads is WAY BETTER. Love them both though.
You really need to listen to Eddie playing if you think all he did was tapping. He invented tapping but he's very underrated when it comes to his achievement and talent as rhythm guitarist. He came up with the most innovative, memorable riffs with groove that put him as the top among 80's rock guitarists. Randy is great and his solos just gives me a chill. They are two of the most influential rock guitarists but many will put Eddie slightly higher.
But I think this comparison is bit unfair(not to mention very difficult) since Randy died so soon and there aren't any more materials of him. He just had two albums with Ozzy and his work with Quiet Riot was when they didn't even had any major label while Eddie was around for decades. They are both great but I will put Eddie slightly more higher even though Randy's work in "Blizzard of Oz" just blow the fuck out of me.
Would you pepole please get the hell of the Randy Band wagon. Yes Randy was a great guitarist, but the best? come on? Everybody act's like Randy was the only one who was doing anything at that time? like Eddie was a nobody or somthing. Was I the only one who listened to Van Halen album with "eruption" ? HELLO!
Eddie, yall are you kidding me. Fucking Eddie made the guitar sound no other way and changed the way it sounded, Rhoads may have been technically better. But Eddie Van Halen helped to truly innovate the way guitar is today.
While I absolutely love Randy, I would say Van Halen redefined the instrument, even to the point of creating new ways to play (tapping), new hybrid instruments he built himself, and hot-rodded amps. In terms of tone, I'd say it's Van Halen hands down. Never really cared for Randy's tone until 'Tribute'. Whereas Randy would triple track to get a sound, VH would throw an SM57 in front of a cabinet and create tone that still boggles the mind today. Love, love Randy...but VH was revolutionary.
Randy had a much wider vocabulary. He could play millions of different scales and had a clear sound than Eddie. Randy's solos were all unique in relation to one another. Eddie's solos all sounded the same. That Paul Gilbert is just an outright fool.
IT RHOADS, NOT RHODES DAMMIT! EVH could tap fast, but RWR could play the same riff without tapping, and even faster. EVH plans all his riffs on stage, Randy makes 75% of his on the spot.... SO RWR wins.. derr.,...
Rhandy roads!!!not only himself, but his jackson guitars were way better too.Him and his guitar even inspired one of the best guitarists we have today,Alehi Laiho.
@dragonheart6crush he didn't create his guitar. and the design on the guitars was the buddy guy one. Check out evh wolfgang - way better than his fucking jackson. but both great guitarists, and in my opinion, about equal
HERES WHY RANDY RHOADS IS BETTER THAN EDDIE VAN TAPPINGBURGER. BECAUSE EDDIE HAD TO RELY ON TAPPING, RANDY DIDNT HAVE TO RELY ON ANYTHING. RANDY WAS JUST SO FUCKING GOOD! PLUS EDDIE WAS DRUNK.
@1959GibsonLesPaul1 he said that all eddie did was tap! and there was not bit of tapping in the solo but I didnt say anything about randy tapping! both great guitarist but eddie was better
@wankerpuss true true haha i personaly like rhoads better...there styles are a bit different but yea i couldnt beat either of them so there ya go hahahaha xD
Why in the hell would u even compare anybody to Randy Rhoads? Thats like comparing dried up white dog shit in the summer to a god, thats not right. R.I.P Randy
The descriptions right therye some of the two most talented guitarists ever I personally prefer Randy bit Eddie is fucking amazingg I can't imagine a album for both of them dam
Rhoads by a long shot for me. There's so much more thought, substance, melody, and composition in his playing that in Eddie's. Eddie's playing is just a bunch of tricks.
@deadenddude Well they both utilize "tricks" and your statement about Eddie having less melody and substance is subjective because I feel that way about Randy and its an OPINION not a fact.
@bbutters2 Nope, it's a fact to anyone with good ears and knowledge of music. Eddie employs less harmonic diversity and his solos aren't very developed structurally. Only someone with very little knowledge of music would think that Eddie's solos are more complex, more developed, and more melodic.
@bbutters2 I didn't say it was a fact that he was better. I said it's a fact that he displays more harmonic diversity and more developed melodic themes.
No truly it isnt, I have heard every single VH track many times and it is not repettive! Randy Rhoads is pretty much just as much about soloing as Eddie is so I dont know what your talking about there. hes still good just not even close to the status of EVH"In My Opinion"...Opinion! To each his own
Both amazing guitarists... Rhoads really was fluent... In my years playing guitar I can hear some licks that Kirk Hammett lifted from some of Randys playing.
Better in what aspect?
When Eddie was on a good night, he was pretty much untouchable, in terms of playing in the pocket and with charisma, things that JUST SOUNDED GOOD...(LWAN solo section)
As much as I love EVH (I have every album)... and while I have next to no Randy Rhoads, I would say as has been said, technically Randy easily.
@mememememe1980s Are you saying that Randy was technically easy? I'm a guitarrits that plays like for 1 year, but i belive that to play solos like MR.Crowley you need more than to play EVH solos
@bbutters2 started the style that Randy uses...so Eddie was the first to play the pentatonic scale? Please, if anyone influenced Randy, it was Ritchie Blackmore. Eddie popularized tapping. Randy popularized neoclassical style playing in hard rock. Randy easily beats Eddie in pretty much any aspect, besides repetitivity I guess
@goodygoody23 Neoclassical schmassical, I think your opinion is right to you and my opinion is just right, seriously though Eddie wins hands down because he was around longer to have a huge library of amizing guitar work....AMAZING> Defend Rhoads all you want you arent gonna win. Eddie is a God and Randy is much further down the ladder...FACT
@bbutters2 very ignorant statement. The great solos in Crazy Train, Mr. Crowley, Diary of a Madman, Flying High Again, etc. explore various scales, styles, and feels while Eddie seems to tap, speedpick, and basically play the same solo over and over. Randy produced a total of 4 albums in his short life and has easily reached and surpassed the greatness of Eddie. Being repetitive (EVH) doesn't make you great. Randy was more diverse, accurate, influential, while Eddie really only tapped
@goodygoody23 Im not gonna tell you this again, its an opinion but Eddie produced 10 albums and he isnt "repetitive like you say. still its all opinion and my opinion is that Eddie is a God repeat God and Randy is not at a God status and he never will be either. In my opinion. I like Randy but he has not reached the utter greatness that Eddie has. you have your opinion and I have mine.
@bbutters2 no it truly is kind of repeative and all van halen has is his solos he has no diary of a mad man song he just plays the same thing which isnt technically a bad thing but is repeative
@goodygoody23 Thanks for agreeing that it is all opinion, they are both great, I prefer Eddie for the reasons I stated and you prefer Randy for the reasons you stated, neither one of us is wrong in our minds, imagine if Randy was still alive and Eddie and Randy did a collaboration of some sort, that would be sickkkkkkkkk, Sorry if I came across harshly. Have a great day!
@bbutters2 exactly, I'd rather we enjoy their music simultaneosly than try to make fact out of opinion. Woulda been great if they had toured together...one can only imagine
I love em both--- both are sick, sloppy, shredding-- they both did things with the Axe that the rest of us just dream of... me I "prefer" Randy, but thats just my ears. Sounds like he shreds faster and can mix it up between being incredibly clean and tight, to down and dirty---fuzz back heavy. Maybe we'd cherish EVH if he was cut short like RR but in reality I cherished RR the first time my ears bleed to his shredding. Both are worthy, but I prefer RR. Enjoy...
i gtta go randy! i hes my fAV guitarist! n hes classicly trained! in he actually nos wat hes doin wen he plays kuz he nos da keys n all dat stuff! n even do eddie is really gud but he jux shredds!!! im 12 n i no wat im takn bout dawg! R.I.P Randy!!
@MrBloodyToast I don't need to be trained to I know what I'm talking about when I say your a freaking idio, learn to spell, no one cares if your 12 and I'm pretty sure "he nos da keys n all dat stuff!" doesnt apply, two of the beatles don't know how to read music, and they're certainly more famous and successful then you.
If Eddie would have died after their second album "Van Halen 2" People would be saying he's the greatest ever, but then again they were saying that anyway,I had a supscription to Hit parader magazine back in the 80's and it seemed that Eddie won best guitar player every year in their contest where fans voted,I love and admire both guitar players its a tie!!lol, they're both so different and gave us so much
i dont know about you guys but really when you think about it and only non randy fans will ever see the truth but when you think about it randy for what hes actually done in his life span hes OVERATED! while a really great no greater then great guitarist he actually is overated
Randy. He is superior in every facet of playing. EVH was innovative and had a nice bag of tricks and was a great rhythm player. When you compare whta he brought to the table against Randy, there isnt really a comparison. Randy was close to a perfect player for his time. Even todays elite players have a tough time matching his total skill set.
randy was better technically and theory wise etc, but i think influential wise and style wise it goes to eddie, he crated a whole style and sound that took it to the next level and influenced everyone!
Eddie Van Halen's playing was more blues based, and he had an amazing bag of fingerboard "tricks". His playing was innovative and uniquely "Van Halen". His playing was like a magic show, in that you never knew what he was going to do next. Randy Rhoads was a pure musician. His playing was more theoretical/classically based, and he knew every note he played. He was the thinking man's guitarist. He was extremely inovative and his technique was fast, presice, and virtually flawless. Died 2 young!

two of my most favorite and influencial guitarists of all time, how does one decide on this...i gonna have to go edward, his technicality, creativity and skill is just fucking insane.only if randy had more time, who knows what other masterpieces he would have created.
its funny how everybody who thinks randy is better doesnt realize that eddie influenced him. and eddie has more speed and better sound. EVH is clearly better!
@Rockerx7 WRONG! randy wasn't influenced by him 1 bit! interviews from randy say it all! randy looked at eddies tapping and maid it better! examples flying high again and crazy train! so randy ass rapes eddie! hands down!
@Rockerx7 ok so ur gonna say a person who taps so god damn much and dus nothing else is better who basic maid classical music in heavy metal! i like eddie trust me im a fan but randy takes the reward 4 best guitarist
@Rockerx7 kinda find it hard to believe actually i mean they did come out around the same time and rhoades influences lie more with classical composers an deep purple.. do you care to explain the influence especially since you know rhoades guitar was already on a record in 1977 , while halens first album came out in 1978? shouldnt an influence usually be around at least a couples years before the artist that is being influenced?
Randy owns every guitarist in the world for origanlity because he never had a stero therfore he never learned anybodys licks but his own he prettty much came up with everything he played

RANDY RHOADS

Randy had a much wider vocabulary. He could play millions of different scales and had a clear sound than Eddie. Randy's solos were all unique in relation to one another. Eddie's solos all sounded the same. That Paul Gilbert is just an outright fool.
VeryHugeAss 11 months ago
IT RHOADS, NOT RHODES DAMMIT! EVH could tap fast, but RWR could play the same riff without tapping, and even faster. EVH plans all his riffs on stage, Randy makes 75% of his on the spot.... SO RWR wins.. derr.,...

PLUS EDDIE WAS DRUNK.

will you spell rhoads right god dammit
YourNameHere136 1 year ago 17
Rhoads by a long shot for me. There's so much more thought, substance, melody, and composition in his playing that in Eddie's. Eddie's playing is just a bunch of tricks.
deadenddude 1 year ago
@deadenddude Well they both utilize "tricks" and your statement about Eddie having less melody and substance is subjective because I feel that way about Randy and its an OPINION not a fact.
bbutters2 1 year ago
@bbutters2 Nope, it's a fact to anyone with good ears and knowledge of music. Eddie employs less harmonic diversity and his solos aren't very developed structurally. Only someone with very little knowledge of music would think that Eddie's solos are more complex, more developed, and more melodic.
deadenddude 1 year ago
@deadenddude, Bullshit, get off Randy's nuts, it isn't a "fact" Eddie is way better than Randy.
bbutters2 1 year ago
@bbutters2 I didn't say it was a fact that he was better. I said it's a fact that he displays more harmonic diversity and more developed melodic themes.

randy rhoads its better no doubt

No truly it isnt, I have heard every single VH track many times and it is not repettive! Randy Rhoads is pretty much just as much about soloing as Eddie is so I dont know what your talking about there. hes still good just not even close to the status of EVH"In My Opinion"...Opinion! To each his own

Secondly, where do people get all these awesome bootlegs.
mememememe1980s 1 year ago
Both amazing guitarists... Rhoads really was fluent... In my years playing guitar I can hear some licks that Kirk Hammett lifted from some of Randys playing.
Better in what aspect?
When Eddie was on a good night, he was pretty much untouchable, in terms of playing in the pocket and with charisma, things that JUST SOUNDED GOOD...(LWAN solo section)
As much as I love EVH (I have every album)... and while I have next to no Randy Rhoads, I would say as has been said, technically Randy easily.
mememememe1980s 1 year ago
@mememememe1980s Are you saying that Randy was technically easy? I'm a guitarrits that plays like for 1 year, but i belive that to play solos like MR.Crowley you need more than to play EVH solos

@bbutters2 started the style that Randy uses...so Eddie was the first to play the pentatonic scale? Please, if anyone influenced Randy, it was Ritchie Blackmore. Eddie popularized tapping. Randy popularized neoclassical style playing in hard rock. Randy easily beats Eddie in pretty much any aspect, besides repetitivity I guess
goodygoody23 1 year ago
@goodygoody23 Neoclassical schmassical, I think your opinion is right to you and my opinion is just right, seriously though Eddie wins hands down because he was around longer to have a huge library of amizing guitar work....AMAZING> Defend Rhoads all you want you arent gonna win. Eddie is a God and Randy is much further down the ladder...FACT
bbutters2 1 year ago
@bbutters2 very ignorant statement. The great solos in Crazy Train, Mr. Crowley, Diary of a Madman, Flying High Again, etc. explore various scales, styles, and feels while Eddie seems to tap, speedpick, and basically play the same solo over and over. Randy produced a total of 4 albums in his short life and has easily reached and surpassed the greatness of Eddie. Being repetitive (EVH) doesn't make you great. Randy was more diverse, accurate, influential, while Eddie really only tapped
goodygoody23 1 year ago
@goodygoody23 Im not gonna tell you this again, its an opinion but Eddie produced 10 albums and he isnt "repetitive like you say. still its all opinion and my opinion is that Eddie is a God repeat God and Randy is not at a God status and he never will be either. In my opinion. I like Randy but he has not reached the utter greatness that Eddie has. you have your opinion and I have mine.
bbutters2 1 year ago

@bbutters2 maybe randy would have had more albums if he didnt die u asshole
YourNameHere136 1 year ago
I love em both--- both are sick, sloppy, shredding-- they both did things with the Axe that the rest of us just dream of... me I "prefer" Randy, but thats just my ears. Sounds like he shreds faster and can mix it up between being incredibly clean and tight, to down and dirty---fuzz back heavy. Maybe we'd cherish EVH if he was cut short like RR but in reality I cherished RR the first time my ears bleed to his shredding. Both are worthy, but I prefer RR. Enjoy...

MARTlANxMADNESS 1 year ago
Randy. He is superior in every facet of playing. EVH was innovative and had a nice bag of tricks and was a great rhythm player. When you compare whta he brought to the table against Randy, there isnt really a comparison. Randy was close to a perfect player for his time. Even todays elite players have a tough time matching his total skill set.
stygian1967 1 year ago
randy was better technically and theory wise etc, but i think influential wise and style wise it goes to eddie, he crated a whole style and sound that took it to the next level and influenced everyone!

@Rockerx7 but rany is still an amazing guitarist

@Rockerx7 WRONG! randy wasn't influenced by him 1 bit! interviews from randy say it all! randy looked at eddies tapping and maid it better! examples flying high again and crazy train! so randy ass rapes eddie! hands down!

@elvisdustin i gotta say randy is great but i think eddie is better

@Rockerx7 ok so ur gonna say a person who taps so god damn much and dus nothing else is better who basic maid classical music in heavy metal! i like eddie trust me im a fan but randy takes the reward 4 best guitarist
elvisdustin 1 year ago
@Rockerx7 kinda find it hard to believe actually i mean they did come out around the same time and rhoades influences lie more with classical composers an deep purple.. do you care to explain the influence especially since you know rhoades guitar was already on a record in 1977 , while halens first album came out in 1978? shouldnt an influence usually be around at least a couples years before the artist that is being influenced?
