  • The sound of pencil on paper is so calming.

  • Oh love your videos......very helpfull..I draw but there always "something" missing...(that would be the shades) :s

    P.S. I like your hands <_< lol

  • how did you get bumps on the ceiling :S

  • Hello, When ever I try to print the image it is always much smaller than 8x10" and than in the video. I use A4 paper so it should work, but even in print preview it is much smaller. Please help currently drawing from screen. :/

    -Alem

  • I see an eagle that is about to take a flight.

  • the faces on the ceiling thing was cool. I think the Twilight Zone did a show about that once....Way scary, butso cool. I always think of that when I see faces in shapes on the floor or walls.

  • i love your videos!!

  • Hey I wonder do you use a tortillion to blend? Because I've always used my fingers, but then again I use HB pencils to draw, not 2B,3B or 4B,because they easily smudge.

  • so i need to draw that accurately right ? cause i'm drawing it really outta shape , i mean i'm not drawing it accurately -__-

  • i think im in love with u LOL

  • great stuff

  • can u please restore ur website i want to do the exersised!!

  • I did not know it will help to keep the pencil moving. I never tried that. I was to scared of making mistakes. This is soo cool of you to do this for actual people that want to learn these techniques. I agree with those that say you will make a great teacher, unless you already are; nevertheless, you rock.

  • yes, i find what a look at different things, I can see many faces and objects within them.

  • Why didn't I find your tuts sooner?! My dad pays a lot for my private art class and my teacher doesn't explain things to me! She just gives me a few things to draw and criticize my work.

  • are you serious about looking at the ceiling? i have been doing that my whole life, and i thought i was the only one who saw things like that, i see the whole world like that, and its great that i no know that there are others like me!

  • Historians believe that's how the first drawings man ever made came about. They saw shapes in the patterns on the cave walls and basically traced what they saw.

  • @stinky472 , its how i became the cartoonist that i am, its where i get some of my inspiration

  • Me too. Sometimes I just bring a sketchbook and look at a textured floor, wall, table, or clouds and I can copy what I see. Some of my best illustrations come about that way. I see some interesting shapes and patterns and my mind fills in the rest. I always see people or creatures of some sort.

  • Awesome so far, but what is that radioactive paper anyways -,- ...

  • you're awsome man !!

  • ok nvm..got it..a led holder + 4d led..thanks -_-

  • "4B" that is

  • may i know what kind of pencil you are using for rendering :O seems nice

  • dont u love youtube, pay a few thousand dollars to go to art school, when u can just wathc these videos, why rent movies, just search them on youtube, do u have a question about car motors, just search a tutorial on youtube, YOU GOTTA LOVE YOUTUBE

  • i wove youtube : )

  • @BENJAMIN5431 dont give bad ideas to youtube... they may make it payable

  • they would never make it payable, they make more money being free.

  • yeah youtube is best ^^

  • @BENJAMIN5431 it really is a fantastic learning tool, i totally agree.

  • @BENJAMIN5431 my feelings exactly

  • I complete see the upper left corner of a face...

am i just wierd lyk that?? =p

  • dude sounded like he was about freak out in the 0:50 secs lol u altistic i n i cant spell

  • I thought I was crazy, I always see faces and shapes in ceilings and stuff. Well I still might be crazy but still, I'm not alone

  • Haha truly not alone :P

  • @yubbles09 i do the same thing

  • @yubbles09 so do i crazy dude

  • @yubbles09 lol.....im with you

  • @yubbles09 i see that too, sometimes its a little creepy but also it could be a fold in a towel or the curtains.

  • You mentioned that a lot of people have trouble shading when they get the measurements right. I'm the opposite i am able to shade fairly well but my measurements are terrible. Of cause i'm going to watch the rest of your videos but are there and quick tips you can give me on how to fix my measurements?

  • looks like the side of a face to me O.o can see the side of the very edge of eye, and the space between eye and eyebrow,

and the ear and hair lol

  • phew im not the only one who thinks the same :)

  • Funny how so many people think they need exactly the same pencil to do this.

It's just a 4B pencil like any other 4B pencil.

He's doing it, not the pencil... LOL

  • LEAD!!!

  • what kind of led do you use 2B, 2H or HB???

  • its 4B

  • like i learned some thing

  • i was born with the drawing gene 2

  • i know this artist is great, i knew it from the beginning, and wathever he's draws were, i've always loved to watch he's draws him, no metter of my day, he always put smile on my face with his draws ;)

  • Subbed. :S

  • OMG Where did you buy that drawing pencil?? It's PERFECT! I NEED IT!

  • I NEED IT TO!!!

  • I think he explains it in one of his sketching videos. He says it costs about 20 dollars... Expensive if you ask me. :]

  • i think it is in A2

  • Good video on shading and forms

  • your videos are really good, I appriciate them. Im remembering art class in high school been a history lesson so i hated it. you make it intresting

  • interesting method, i'm a natural born artist and have been drawing since i was a kid... the

method i use... is to draw proportional..when

drawing a face i would draw one eye than draw the other eye proportional to the first ..than the nose etc... also i draw one line instead of a series of little lines

after awhile your eye becames trained to judge and draw

see . betty edwards books on drawing on the right side of the brain...i call her books the

    artists bible.

  • the same for me, im born with the artist gene, its pretty natural for me to draw something , and i draw the same exact way than f3xman2284, first one eye, and then make everything else in proportion to it....

so thats what surprise me of you, that you actually seem to see the shadows and light rather than the forms, you start from anywhere, a chin, the ear, or even the outline of the head...

its really an awesome way of drawing...

  • I'm also borrn with one! Although I'm not really paying much attention to it this past few years. But now I'm glad that I made a comebock to my true interest and love! :3

  • As some other people said, you're an awesome teacher and you have a big THANK YOU from me :)

  • What I understand is that the brain interprets an image right away like a bunch of lines and value shapes but if you analize the images with a much deeper perception they turn out to be a bunch of contrast and shadows that make you percive "lines" and "proportion" the proportion comes along with the distance your percive those shapes and lines.

  • This has been an amazing help, your a wonderful teacher. Thanks!

  • hmmmmmmmm

i find your voice very soothing XD

  • Your voice is hypnotic lol.

  • wow man you guys just nailed my situation, values did not know thanks man great insight, opened my eyes men will pratice thanks

  • are those the same excersizes from episode 3

  • I'm definitely going to have to try this. I just told my art professor that my biggest weakness is seeing 3D form or what you describe as "value shapes." Thanks for such great tutorials!!

  • He printed that image by rendering clouds with default colors in photoshop :P Nice tutorial... I have been watching from the first vid and it really seemed to work

  • thanx im learning but can you work on the nose more cause thats what makes the face different

  • "work on the nose more cause thats what makes the face different"

The point is, don't label things like the nose. Just see them as shapes of value and record them just like you did the blobs.

  • I like that shape of an angel in the first minute of the vid^^

  • "jump into it start!" lol love it

    ur my drawing guru

    keep up the good work

  • that is a strange pencil, what is that?

  • lead holder =]!

  • thought it is LED holder but if you say so...

  • you are a nice guys, these lessons could cost a lot in college. Thank you very much.

  • i get the outlie too dark

  • erasers are your best friend XD!

  • Are we allowed to request you to draw something? I would have something I would love to see you draw!

I have tried and am quite proud of what i accomplished after watching these first few lessons.

  • Thank you so much for posting this playlist! i love this

  • I was wondering whether that was a 4b pencil or not. Youcan shade very lightly with that...

  • thnx jason ... m learning

  • i suscribed to your channel! i can't wait for lesson 6 =) .btw thanks for the vids.

  • i don't know about the others but my shading is really good but the things that i need to learn are placing/ position of the parts and how to put what i see onto the paper such as the eyes or the mouth

  • me too, i draw really well, but its always the proportion of eyes that brings down the whole sketch, like i can never get the left eye looking like the right one, everything else is top nosh for the level i want to be at for my art exam but until i sort out the eyes ill never be able to produce a sketch to this quility !! ahhhh, its driving me mad.

  • if yer going mad yer halfway to being an artist.

  • A good tip, (If your working from a photograph) Is to turn the image your working from and working on upside down. This will help you concentrate your positioning without being distracted by where your brain 'thinks' eyes belong etc.

  • tHAT' RIGHT! THAT'S ALSO THE BEST METHOD OF COPYING SIGNATURES!!!!

  • Awesome I was waiting for this, thank you Jason!

  • 5stars mate ;-)

  • thank you..great lesson

  • i see this as a side of a persons face.. like eyebrow and eyes and ears..=___=

  • yup its marylin monroe... and no i havent watched the newest episodes yet... ^-^

  • this is great man

  • Oops did it again deleted a post trying to reply. To the person who said graphite works well for developing value and shading skills...but prefers black and white charcoal on mid tone paper. I agree with you it is much quicker to be able to draw on with black and white on a grey paper. Graphite is probably the slowest way to draw values but it is the easiest to learn and control.

  • I went out and bought EVERYTHING you said to get. It cost $26.00 =o

well actually i didnt buy it, my mom did. lol

but anyway im ready to learn!! i cant wait for ur next vid.. #6.

anyways, thanks again for posting all these =]

  • The best way to learn is to draw on your own and teach yourself. I can give hints and advice but ultimately we teach ourselves with practice.

  • oh...lol well i know how to draw a lil bit..im not a master like u.i. i dunno how to shade...and like in ur vids u said usually ppl dont sketch they try to get it exact..like they erase and draw, and go back and erase till its perfect...thats what i do..if u want u can click my name and find the vid of some of my drawings lol. but anyways. im gonna continue to watch ur vids =]

  • @Cece248

really 26 i got my set for $4 (plus shipping) lol look for 18 piece drawing and sketch set its a really good set filled with good stuff

  • SUB FOR SUB

  • nice vid :D

  • sweet

  • sweet

  • lol i look at the bumpy stuff in the ceiling too

  • Excellent thank you.

  • Thank you for all this videos! I wish someone would make quitar lessons videos and other instruments as well. I don't really like schetching and drawing and stuff but I like to watch your videos.

  • Wow. Everything is so accurate. My drawings have like... three values.

  • You good at 3d modeling too?

  • thanks for this!
