Whitehall is my hometown. You can see the house I grew up in from the view of the Amtrak approaching the Whitehall stop. The Railroad (D&H was king back then) was big in Whitehall in the 70's and 80's. Our High School mascot was the "Railroaders".
YES YES YES! WOW, this video could not have been done any better, I've been itching to get back to D&H rails sooo bad. I guess it's no surprise that Pan Am didn't have a train for you to chase when you were in the Mechanicville area haha. That 253 at Belden was simply magical, I can't believe you nailed all the power that you did. Whenever I've been out on the Sunbury, it's been almost all widecabs beavers, I guess I gotta go up the the Freight Sub to get the goodies! Best upload to date BY FAR.
Thanks! I was only in Mechanicsville for about 25 minutes, I saw the Medium Clear and decided to wait, I was in a hurry to get to the hotel in Binghamton for the outing the next day. A PAS train had been through and was stopped a few miles up the line but it wasn't slated to move anytime soon. I have to say, the D&H in the Northeast has had an impressive year, I would recommend getting there soon before the ICE/DME and SOO and standard cab EMD's disappear!
@o00o00ozy Well that's the story of Pan Am, NOTHING is slated to move anytime soon! Clearly you had a good day around Binghamton, much better than you most-likely would have had on the PAS West End. And I'll take your word for it, although I'm sure by the time I've got enough free time to set aside to take a ride up there for a weekend, I'm gonna get AC44-ed out! At least you nailed the area in it's prime, I'm sure I'll be going back to watch this one many times.
Awesome video as always. I liked the Boston & Maine Covered Hoppers from 1:08-1:12, former Guilford System GP40-2 at 8:41, the white Tank Train set-up from 9:44-10:04, the RS3L on ex-BNSF CITX SD40-2 at 12:10, the SCL covered hopper at 14:36, the CP GP9Us at 19:20, the run-by shot at 21:30, the CP caboose and Susquehanna units at 22:36, the EMD locomotives, and all of it. It's great.
I will eventually be making a CP DVD, but that probably won't be until at least the summer of 2012. Other DVD's are in the works, just have to see if the hardware/software I have is capable of producing mass amounts of products.
You covered a lot of ground, what an excellent video! I have seen many of these locations although the Freight Subdivision is a new sounding one to me.
fantastic ! you don't see a lot of videos up on youtube from this area of the CP , and it's a shame because a lot of the oddball stuff is down there, so thumbs up to you ! Also CP up here is similar with ethanols , SD40-2's ICE DME SOO all the leasers and FPON , a lot of the CSX and NS has being running on CP trains !
It depends where you are and how well you know the area. Keep in mind this video spans over 200 miles of CP territory. Your busiest location would be around Binghamton, where the Southern Tier, CP Sunbury Line, and CP Freight Subdivision meet. You could see upward 10-12 trains here in daylight, but not at one location, there would be a lot of driving around and having a scanner is required.
Wonderful video man! Wonderful! Well, you know why isn't that hard to believe a class I railroad keeps these engines (SD40-2) running so well? Because they are just fine! We have to admit some of them are already needing some paint job and why not some rebuild. You can see Norfolk Southern and CSX repainting them and rebuilding some of their SD40-2, UP recently starts to do the same so, there is no bigger proofe, they do some good job at mai lines! Long life to the SD40-2's!!!
Along the D&H between Saratoga Springs, NY and Rouses Point, NY sees trains mostly under the cover of darkness except Amtrak and ethanol trains which run as needed. It is very hard to pin-point daylight traffic, but the further noth you are, you will likely catch 253 and 252, as well as the 931 in daylight between Port Henry and Rouses Point. Ethanol trains like 666, 667, 642, and 643 can run whenever they are needed. You are likely to see both CP and PAS around Mechanicville.
Several PAS trains like MOAY/AYMO (NS run-throughs), MOED/EDMO, and others as well as a few daylight CP trains to/from Albany's Kenwood yard. You are likely to see daylight traffic in the Scranton area, and at this time I don't have the local schedule for D11, but there should be some variation of a local that runs Monday-Friday out of Taylor to points westward.
