The moment when the ambient synth goes off on the last stage was one of the most badass moments ever next the exiting of the subway and beating the shit out of Sodom in Final Fight
@shrapnelle very true (not sure about the turkey tho lol), but I remember my bro and I loved this game, of course along with Double Dragon and Final Fight. I remember walking home from school with him, we saw these boys a bit older bothering this girl, and we basically beat them up and walked her home. Our mom was very proud of us, and her parents thanked us the next day. lol I think kids today need games like this :)
my best friend just told me my sega and nintedo and super nintedo are in a box at his house..left it there a few years ago when i was moving n forgot about it....im goin to get them today and rock this game and shadow dancer n golden axe 2 all friggin night
yea this is the best song although it sounds like ben around the world... but still the best theme song to a game.. and the 4 of them are ready to kill for peace.. kinda funny right?
this will always remind me of a time when life was so innocent and the harsh reality of a cruel world only existed in video games. today i live through a life like the streets of rage!
@lacessamino I think I get his/her initial message, but I agree with you as well. Alot of people tend not to pay attention to all the bad things when they're children, and then its like the other way around when they are older, which is probably while people always think things are better during their time or generation. The 90s had its crap too while there are some great things about today that wasn't around in the 90s. It's like selective memory or something.
I'm 28 but I remember renting this at blockbuster when I was 9. This game changed the way I looked at games. It changed the way I perceived sounds and music in games. This game just transcends even today...
Who ever hit the dislike button 4 this game and the "real game music" it came with, should stop jerkin his little immature hairless dick, and get castrated.
Nothing comes close to the day and age of this game, the garbage nowadays could not hold its nuts with a steel tractor. For all you real and old school gamers,You know what this is about, every time I play this, it takes me back to a dif. world and a better more hardcore place.. Thank G-D psn finally added something good to their network, after all the garbage they have been putting up.. Peace To All The Real Gamers Out There! Enjoy! There Will Never Be Another SOR2...
Man... Mr. X. Alright, that dude, can blow me, with assistance from his "Molecule" homeboys. Not only that, but I'd stick that pixilated deglorified Thompson down his throat and make him beg for mercy while listening to Enigma - Sadness. *Cough* And claim my name was Axel.
@Revan175757 I think the intro for the SOR series was based off of it. Not terribly inappropriate for the dystopian setting of the game when you realize that the Lyrics of Sadeness were about Marquis de Sade.
Glad to see Playstation Network bring some of these games back to life in the Sega Ultimate Collection. A nice break from today's wild and crazy world of first-person shooters, RPG's, and survival horrors. This was one of my favorite games to play on Sega Game Gear, which I still have and it still works fine. Ahhhhh nostalgia
I used to play this game with my sister and my dad all the time. I forgot who that guy in the purple was who was holding his hands out. He looks familiar though
@Trinidadian125 Nas is a whiner, Pac was vastly overrated, imo. I've never heard anyone flow like Ghostface, nobody has made my eyes open more than Ghost. But, this is just me.
Having emerged from the worst of darkness 'for so long', as you prepare to do business and make friends, you'll find, almost no one's a winner. This is a terrible problem for many, including the innocent, who are 'discretely' wiped out...by this 'clever system' into the most pain (that shows)
@Kjazz13 I'd say godfather 2 was better then the first, the same with T2 over the orginal evil arnold. *shrug* everyone is intitled to each own opinion.
@elquicko were you a nineties kid? safe to assume anyone from late 80s period to early 90s experienced the best ages of gaming there ever will, you can tell that the future of gaming is bleak, between sony and xbox constantly fighting over who can develop the next piece of tech faster its obvious the future generations wont witness masterpieces like these.
I remember this game when it came out back in the glory days of the Sega Genesis console. This music fits NYC perfectly in that era where I was in public school and well city life was city life.
@RockLee843 It was the hardest out of the three; but by doing so they lost the overall pacing was not the same. Even on easy it was hard for new comers to do anything in the game. Not that it's bad; just kinda like a dulled down version of Double Dragon 3; well maybe not.
Yuzo Koshiro is the MAN! I can go on record and say that I remember thinking that music for this game was just awesome when I played it as a little kid. Brings me back to my childhood.
my cousin and i used to play the shit outta this game!!! the dude below me was right, suddenly i feel nostalgic! thanks for bringing me back there for a moment.
Like have any of you guys played Street Wise Final fight? Or Beat Down. Its a 3d 3rd person walk around fighting game. Now if they could do this with street figher characters and make it online. Damn where you could fight against other clans and steal their points/ money damn that'd be sick.
@nitemass he wasn't scary at all. he just had a scary face. shoot a 6 your old could own him no problem but that face is just scary beyond all reason.

Played this awesome game with a blind friend of mine some years ago... gonna play it again soon. One of the best co-op games in history. We need more of these!
I still have the game on my Megadrive/Genesis and I love it. It's one of the best, if not the best beat em up game you can get. It was unique, the soundtrack, the graphics, you could play it in singleplayer, cooperative, player vs. player....awesome!
I really don't know how often I have played this game when I was "young", but this game was epic! Imo games for the Megadrive were far more advanced and somewhat mature than on the SNES. I have a PSP 3k as well, but I miss my GameGear =/.
Drugs, gangs, violence, vice, addiction. This song says it all about the dark side of life in the big cities (New York, LA, London, Liverpool) and of human nature.

this is my favorite game intro theme of all time. i'm in the studio now trying to recreate it with newer sounds. but nothing will beat the classic 16-bit version.
I feel nostalgia listening to this...I was maybe 10 or so when I first played this on some completetion disk or something on the Dreamcast...I forgot the name of the game, but I never forgot the soundtrack.
Then I watched some Screwattack list of Top Twenty Genesis games ever, and this game was #2. I felt while I was watching it "I know that game!" So I found it again and I've been playing it again. I missed a lot of great games of the 80s and 90s. Glad I didn't miss this one.
sounds like that other song from the 90s also. the one they use to play for french models & shit. it had a girl whispering shit in another language. i know someone knows what im talking about there
@daveeol I know the feeling. If you miss Streets of Rage 2 listen to this song The Only One by The Black Keys...
It totally sounds like the theme music at parts, though it is certainly original. I know nostalgia can be triggered by strange things, and since I still have and play this game, the song reminded me of it right away.

Same age as you man. I was about to turn 7 when I got this game. It's still my favorite game to this day. We just have to cherish the memories.
