I just read an article by Timothy Taylor (entitled "A Riddle Wrapped in a Mystery"), that talks about the album being released in two different dialects: "Minnan Holo, also known as Taiwanese Minnan, and Hakka Keija." He later mentions that in verse 5 the song refers to "the Chinese mainland [refering] to those Chinese who followed Chiang Kai-shek in 1949; the song is generally about setting aside differences." In this article he also includes the English translation. Should be easy to look up!
**** CAN ANYONE OR ANYBODY PLEASE TRANSLATE THIS FOR ME? *****
I HAVE A CHINESE GIRLFRIEND who speaks Mandarin, Indonesian, & Hokkien, but she says this must be some other form of Hokkien or another dialect, even her mother tried to translate this for her and couldn't.
I have asked 15 Chinese people from the year 1995 when i first heard this song until now Oct. 20009 AND STILL get the same answers.
But people who speak Hokkien say it's not all Hokkien. please i want lyrics in English & chines
