Tahoe Hybrid is available today for approx. 43,500. Add to this a tax credit of $2200 and you basically have a hybrid for the cost of the 5.3L gasoline flex-fuel Tahoe. Add to this an increase of at least 25% in average MPG and it's a no-brainer decision.

GM is definitely headed in the right decision. Let's face it, this is a transitionary vehicle which will lead to more which will undoubtedly have better MPG in the years to come.

Seriously, a publicity stunt?! Why would GM develop this hybrid technology with BMW and Daimler Chrysler and test in municipal applications such as busses? It wasn't the CEO of GM, it was Bob Lutz, vice chairman.

Granted, he was off the mark by a country mile, but isn't he the person heading the Chevy Volt project? IMHO, this is a step in the right direction.

Most of the imports make cross overs which get in the low 20's in da mpg. Which they arnt even hybrids. But 20mpg flat is no good. Rather its from toyota or gm

When every other full size SUV competitor(Toyota included) gets only an average of 14 MPG, it IS an improvement. Lets be real about what we are comparing. And the fact is that actual mileage in the real world has been reported consistently at 25 MPG city with this vehicle. Most Toyota/Honda V-6's can't claim this.

You are comparing apples to oranges. You still pay $50,000 for a Sequoia, Armada, or Expedition and they still only get 13MPG. The Tahoe Hybrid buyer is not a Prius buyer. and 7MPG is a significant improvement in my book for the same price if I have a family of 5.

it would be alot higher mpg if it used the diesel engine that powers the refrigeration unit of the trailers that deliver your food to stores. the mpg isn't any better than a 1/2 ton, 2wd, standard cab short bed pick up. with the small diesel it could be a 30-40mpg vehicle.

"Added price and size". What's the different size? You guys saw an average of 20% better fuel economy. Are gas prices going up 20% during the time of ownership? How about this summer? 20% better range, 20% discount on fuel, it's faster, has a decent tow rating. GM did a good job. BTW, the econo gauge swings in both directions. If you brake too hard it won't regenerate, it'll use the discs. If you floor it, the econo guage will swing in the other direction.

Perhaps fuel prices are going to drive people to more efficient cars and lifestyles before governments step in with bans and regulations. Cars are part of the equation but how can they be more efficient? Smaller, hybrid, modern diesel - whatever works. Even carrying more than the average 1.5 people per car automatically makes it more economical even an SUV. That said I wouldn't buy an SUV even a hybrid one at this time.

Alright I think the whole concept of SUV's in urban environments is kind of baffling. Putting hybrid badges on it makes it more hilarious in a way but to be fair hybrid drivetrains can improve mileage pretty well on big heavy vehicles. But for example a huge Ford Galaxy mpv here in Yurop will give you almost 30MPG using a normal gasoline engine, and I'm sure there are others even more efficient.

Or course the Hybrid Tahoe is better than regular Tahoe. But as many pointed out this IS a marketing trick to make GM brand greener. The truth is HUGE Fords and EXCESSIVELY LARGE SUV's from GM are still gas guzzlers and the real green act would be to sell smaller cars with smaller engines. Hybrid is greener than plug-in electric in the US, because most of the electricity here is produced with filthy old coal plants. I ask, do you REALLY need the huge SUV? do you? V8? why? enlighten me, please!

I have 5 children and my wife and we also pull a 5000lb trailer when camping. And since minivans are 3500lb towers at best, that is why we need a vehicle like this.  It's either this or a truck and a car, which I believe will waste even more fuel.

yea i'm in a similar situation with my wife 4 kids and mother in law now staying with us something like this is definetly more efficient than having to operate 2 vehicles. we currently drive a 2000 ford escape and my wifes 2002 toyota camry which both have pretty crap fuel mileage i'd gladly trade up to one of these and potentially halve our fuel bill i'm sure this would be the case of many families

Green wash or not, it is more than a significant improvement. I'd agree with you if it was 1 or 2 mpg--but 6? Don't forget that while Toyota and Honda made efficient vehicles more efficient, GM made the highest polluters(buses) into low polluters to the scale of 10,000+ in Portland, Boston and other countless cities.

You`re right about that. An SUV of this kind is heavy and way to big for most people. A sleek and aerodynamik hybrid station wagon or modern van would be much more fuel friendly. Besides, just look at the Tahoes front bumper, it will not even tackle the easiest offroad tracks.
