The purpose is obviously to remind us of the WWII vets that help rid the world of Adolf Hitler. And to remind us of our right to bear arms. Don't be afraid to carry your weapon with you. @puppyjaj there are plenty of these in michigan. I used to do rifle qualifications on Fort Custer, just off of I-94 in Battle Creek. We would be on the range and these guys would be having mock battles in the forest behind us.

There's the "Thunder Over Michigan" air show at Willow Run. Every other year they have a battle reenactment, but that's all I know about it.

good thing we were defeated. though some contemporarys seem to dress up america to be the big brave liberator. russia paid the highest toll by far. america´s troops acted slow, bureaucratically and ineffectively throughout all phases of the war, proven by several historians. but sure the allied armes industry outproduced germany signifficantly. greetings from germany!

Wrong. Remember that those 4 countries were also fighting Italy and Japan at the same time. the Brits fought the Italians and Germans in North Africa, the Japanese in Burma and the Germans in Europe. Fighting a war on 3 differant continents at the same time and still wining is pretty impresive.

In saying that though, over 85% of the German army died on Russian soil. If that Is not a major contribution, then I'm unsure what Is.
And please don't give me pedantic's about whether or not It was In the benefit of Europe. That should not be the case In this matter.

@ThunderAppeal I criticize grammar when I'm being facetious. Usually, I don't mind. I speak with many foreigners at my job, and I've actually come to like broken English.
For some reason, many of my friends are actually not *too* great at spelling. I like it though, it gives the opportunity to sort of figure out their thought processes.
As for the average person, it usually happens when they don't agree with you, makes them feel superior.

@Zaharkl - If it weren't for America and England sending massive amounts of munitions and supplies to the communist Soviet Union, Nazi Germany would have defeated them. The Soviet Union didn't, "give", any lives, they just send hordes of soldiers, (many of them unarmed), on wild attacks against the German positions. It was a total massacre of human life and a total disregard of human life. Many Soviet soldiers were shot by their own officers for daring to find cover when being shot!

Certainly, America (via Britain) shipped a lot of materiel to Russia; but Russia also produced huge quantities of armaments. To take one example, they created what was in effect a new city east of the Urals. It was informally known as Tankograd, and it did nothing but assemble weapons.

Most of the most vicious fighting In WW2 took place on Russian soil. Russia paid a huge price. To say that "The Soviet Union didn't, "give", any lives" is insulting and ignorant.
