Yes but The Beatles did not stay in 1963! The so called wholesome image was only in the early period. They moved away from that.. If The Stones are so much better then why did The Beatles sell more records in just 7/8 years of being together than The Stones in nearly 50 years of being together ? The Beatles sold more records from 1964 - 1969 than the Stones who have had over 4 long decades to catch up - and still they are no-where near catching up. When The Stones went to America AFTER The Beatles were they as big ? Nope they were not - and that's a fact.
If it were not for The Beatles breaking america in the way they did so many british bands including The Stones would not have made it there! As Lennon said what the Beatles did first The Stones always did/copied six months later. Also pick up any history book on rock/pop music - any one and it will back me up! The Stones were always second to The Beatles in the 60's and still are. All music may be subjective, but popular and critical concensus say the Stones are the greatest. Their library and legacy prove it.
I remember back in around 67' here in Los Angeles, one of the local rock stations had "weekend war" between the Beatles and Stones where they'd play a song from each band and listners would call in and vote. Stones won it bigtime!

Pepper, so they were critized for not putting any music out. However, when the album was released, it brought some of the most widespread acclaim of any album to date. The stones follow up to that was marked as a cheap copy of ideas used on Sgt. Pepper(also seen as stones' worst. I love both but beatles are best.
