  • her bowing is absolutely stupendous!

  • now this is the only useful video in the series.

and she can speak (which is not the case with others from there)

  • You show the sicret's of violin. Some people do not know all that and some teacher's sell their word to expensive, I thin you understand what I mean. I suggest you try to play Paganini 5th caprise (K.Flache edition, 3/1 -3/1-4-4) or Vieuxtemps 1st capricce. Thank you for uploading.

    neiro subarashiidesune!

  • tres bien

  • HELP IM A NOOB!!!!

i have a problem with my violin, whenever i play it, i play it really quietly, can u gimme some tips on how to play it louder without making it squeak?

  • sometimes you need more resin on the bow, its usually a little amber bar that comes along with the instrument, you might need to break it in. Take the edge of a coin and scratch up the surface of the resin, you want it to have a powdery look to it, once you do that rub the bar it on the bow evenly, keep applying until the violin can be heard with ease, and excess will rub off on the strings which you can take care of with a cloth. hope this helps at least a bit.

  • thx ill try it out

  • Get a teacher. There's no effective way to teach a beginner over the internet. Just find someone who knows violin or something, and they'll be able to help.

  • u like that naruto show alot don't u

  • Well, I used to, but I've sort of stopped watching it. Now I just use it for my screen name :P.

  • This is a master class, not a means to teaching a person HOW to play. Key word here...MASTER class. When you are talking about a master class, you are talking about people who are looking for -suggestions- from a MASTER. Master classes NEVER aim at teaching a begineer how to play it misses the entire point. Honestly this woman probally couldnt teach a begineer because in her day to day life she's showing adults techniques not kids. This is a master class not a lets learn fiddle 101 class.

  • Wait, why are you replying to me on this? I was suggesting that someone get a teacher for their problem with the instrument squeaking, which would be to get a teacher. I was basically saying what you just told me. Also, what's the big deal? Just calm down.

  • play closer to the bridge...

  • You are very beautiful

  • I invite anyone to see KlassiKlarinette's entry to the clarinet rounds:

    KlassiKlarinette

As of Jan 30, 2009 4AM EST; they are not appearing on the view page under clarinet,

adjudicators please visit that page in the interim. Thank you; there has been no indication as to when they should appear on the Symphony page.

Are there other candidates that are not on the site?

If so, let us know so we can see you performance!

    THANKS

  • i know nothing of violin...but i know she is reallly good

  • los pueden traducir al español para comprender las indicaciones

  • Yes, it is 1001, IV.

  • no entiendo.

  • That's the one, you need to do the Presto from the first sonata.

  • anybody has the idea where is the list of music for the video 2 ??? can`t find it anywhere......thanks for help!!!

  • I think it's in the menu "prepare", where it says "video 2"... I can't write it down here because it exceeds the limit of characters, but you can see there.

By the way, I don't know why she talks about the Elgar, since it's not on the list... But that's OK. :)

  • awesome!!!!

  • that's not very nice...

  • I love cute Asians with English accents. I wish I one. That would be lovely ^_^

  • lol

  • She reminds me of a character in the Doctor Who series. And not just from the accent. :l

  • nice video...

  • 441...

  • haha

  • most orchestras tune to 440.. unless u hav a piano or organ or somethign which has a differnt tuning, and then u would tune to that, watever frequency it's at... eg if the piano is at 442, then the oboe will tune to 442, then the orch to the oboe at 442... but usually its 440

  • i think san francisco symph tunes to 442 by standard to make it "sound happier" or something around those lines

  • Hi, I want to point out something.

My instrument is flute (I've been playing for 10 years and have experience in conducting)When I compared the conductors score with the flute pariton, there were some major errors, such as a phrase on the conductors score between measures 16-21 is missing on the flute paritition. (By the way flutes are clearly cued at those measures in the practice video)

I want to know if any of you came across with similar errors in violin parititons?

    Thanks, Kerem

  • wonderful explanation :-)

  • Where do I find the sheet music?

  • I was using Firefox 3 and the three tabs on top didn't show up for me. Use Internet Explorer or Google Chrome and they show up.

  • Got to the channel and click on Get Started!

  • That option didn't show up for me in firefox 3, I had to switch to Internet Explorer in order for it to show up (it also worked with Google Chrome)

  • my problem has always been keeping in tune. i would play sharps when flats were dictated XD

Aaah the good old days, too bad I detested my high school teacher, so I quit the orchestra. Well I wasn't very good but I liked it, he just made it bitter. My sis plays violin just like I did, and is also considering quitting. Stupid teachers with bad attitudes, they kill our inspirations.

  • Yeah, That's how my teacher was... I almost thought about quiting. But she was fired when she hit a student(*Yay!) So we got an AWESOME teacher now.

  • I bought a violin. It sounds like I'm sawing timber. Wanna hear?? :P

  • [confused on bowing at measure 62. You don't have to reply to this]

  • good

  • Yes, I comment alot. That's why I'm goodcommentguy. And how in the world can you slur up bow and play up bow again at the 98 part? Doesn't make much sense.

  • Hmm, after a while I got used to the measure 29-49 stuff, but I'm confused with the bowing at measure 59 to 90, especially with staccatos. You don't have to reply to this, I'm 13 and I can't go to carnagie hall anyway. I'm just playing the sheet music becaused it sounds nice and I'm more advance than others.

  • AAAH 98 IS WAY TOO FAST, I can't see how you do stacatto (fine I don't spell that perfect) with the bow directions.

  • Buongiorno, con la fisarmonica che linea devo seguire? NON SO CHE DEVO SUONARE :-) Lo riarrangio? Lo armonizzo? O seguo la via di uno strumento melodico come il corno ad esempio??

  • Wait, so on 31 it's 3 down bows, 2 ups then down and up right? then next measure ect...

  • that really helped me with playing...

  • Wait, why is she playing elgar?

  • suoni veramente bene

  • o_O wooow...

  • I'm gonna try out, might as well give it a shot, does anyone know if a recording of this song is on itunes?

  • i'm gonna attempt....thanks for your help

  • Nope, she wasn't out of tune. That is an extremely simple note; she would have noticed it and fixed it.

  • ??? wth ???

  • I don't get it... seriously. How can she be so talentous, pretty, charming, explain so well and if all that is not enough, still look confortable with the camera?

Love the video! Too bad I'm far from playing in high positions right now...

  • I wanna try out, but im not good enough :p maybe in 4 years.

  • Wait a minute This is the piece that they played in the Olympics when they gave out the medals!

  • im trying out

    anyone else?

  • thank you for this video. i'm def. uploading a video:) I'm glad you suggested not strking the whole chord. that would be hard for everyone, i imagine. thanks again.

  • Where is it out of tune? Please show me.

  • lovely tips!!

  • I wonder why this lady has the most views of all LSO members here on youtube ... :DDDDDD

  • All violins would like to think of themselves as first violins.

    Well, most violins.

Maybe there's just a lot of us?

  • lol welcome to the club... but when she started the fast part i kinda freaked out... haha...crud...im dead..but im gonna work all the harder on this

  • ive seen her in the lso live!

  • They should have live masterclasses.

  • excelente , es el instrumento de sonido mas bonito

  • Thank you so much.

  • great tips

  • nope.. i think you should have better internet cnnection there... i tried to do what you've told n there are no probs 4me..

  • I haven't been able to download the violin sheet music: when I visited the site there was no drop-down menu from the Prepare tab, just a blank white space. Has this happened to anyone else? Please help!

  • What about guitar sheet music?

  • lol... when was the last time there was a guitar part for a symphony orchestra?

  • Go to the symphony page and choose "other" and see the alternate instruments suggestions...

There say that is you want to play charango you must download guitar sheet music!

  • Guitars aren't really orchestral instruments. :P

  • i guess plucked strings don't count huh?

  • Plucked strings != Guitars.

  • Depends. Hard to hear them in a modern symphony orchestra setting, but there were concertos written for them in the baroque period (Boccherini, Vivaldi) with an orchestra or string ensemble.

  • i have my violin in hand right now looking at this.

  • who won the presidential election?

  • OBAMA!!!!

  • i would also like to know why Elgar is being discussed. Is it part of the audition piece? or seating audition?

  • Go look for a proper teacher - peripatetic teachers in schools are never any good :/ Learn vibrato and go play with the London Symph! :P

  • Why is Elgar being discusssed? It's not a part of the audition, is it?

  • I think she just chose to do part of her masterclass on Elgar instead of focusing on just the Tan Dun piece. She might not necessarily see the opportunity of giving a masterclass as just the opportunity to help people with only the youtube symphony. I've also noticed the musicians speaking about youth orchestra a lot, so maybe the Elgar is an audition piece for that, or something in their repertiore.

  • at the beginning, its just "bbbbbbbbbbbbb".

  • I brought my violin to the luthier.

    I'm picking it up tomorrow.

Where do I get the sheets?
