The slow tempo is an equally valid solution compared to the more common faster tempi. Leporello is a comedic character, but why did mozart use a bass? There must be some intention for him to sound like a slow-witted idiot. Hence, using this kind of slow tempo best portrays this sort of image. But personally, I find the faster tempi more interesting.
And nothing about Lisa Della Casa's acting here?? A very delicate matter, more than managed by here. She re-acts, but doesn't take any glory from Otto. Totally credible and moving. I love it!
Potentissima voce ,ma in questo pezzo non adatta ad esprimere il meglio,a mio parere troppo lento ed impreciso con la dizione della lingua...ma apprezzabilissimo in generale...c'è comunque tecnica da vendere...bravo!
you are discussing with somebody who IS an absolute authority in music, His Majesty Wilhelm Furtwaengler, would you call him and explain, you know the number direct line at side of The Creator, just ask the operator
Otto had fun working. He was a solid and reliable bass, a mainstay at the Vienna State Opera, throughout all feasible repertoire. Ever heard him do Baron Ochs?
just like Fassbänder is the definitive Rosenkavalier and Kleiber the definitive conductor. I don't like such generalities as a rule, and I have change my mind on some. A few stick.
I used to know Edelmann when I lived w Greta Keller in Vienna in the 70s. He was in person exactly as he is/was in his roles. "souverän" would be the right word about his voice. Just a very nice man. husband, father.
Don Giovanni was lucky not to catch syphilis having slept with all those women.

Well, you could do better, couldn't you? You could contact Mozart himself; you know the number direct line of The Creator: it's him.

He was my voice teacher from 1999 until 2002 ;)

The opera was sung to 1950 and not 2008 where it accelerates the song because the stress of life took over.

I like the tempo - it allows to sing along quite easily.

i think...i prefer it faster juz like cesare siepi done with this aria....
contrary...many bass singer have difficulty in faster tempo in any kind of song...imo...
especially the production of the tone, lyric and note...
but still beautiful...

I have to agree, I do prefer this with a more brisk tempo. However, this fantastic performance cannot be dampened by qualms with the tempo!
Brilliant, thanks for posting :)
