Firstly its optional, secondly, its an historical part of the series gameplay. As bad as they implemented it (IMO), it would have been a worse thing to omit it.

The series as a whole has never been an FPP shooter; and was never intended to be. They made their game an RPG/Shooter hybrid, but that won't please a shooter player (though they clearly wanted to).

Its a sad case: Shooter fans dislike it, and many series fans dislike it. Its impressive, but not a decent sequel IMO.

I'm an old FO&FO2 PC fan. I have finally gotten around to purchasing this game and I'm loving it. My only problem with the older styles was the game play was too long, although it was required, at the time. I'm one happy customer and I look forward to New Vegas. Thanks for the fun gameplay vid!

@Otherfile1 its an RPG you start out in vault underground because of a nuclear war and its been more than 200years after a while you get to go outside and see what a bitch the world has become...expect raiders mutated animals and mutants and some very nice guns

If you want more action you should stick with FPS games like CoD, Battlefield, or Halo. This game is a hardcore RPG, there is a diverse leveling system, tons of places to explore, and a shitload of talking. Some people, like me, just prefer that over many other titles of the modern era.

@MooneySuzuki3654 after a good 10 hours of giving the game a go .. the reading just went on and on ... if you spend countless hrs on the game it would get more interesting but with so many other good titles like .. unchartered trio- god of war3 - infamous duo - batman duo - metal gear - prototype - cod - battlefield - bioshock - turok - heavenly sword - and my personal favourite crysis 2. hey if you like it play it - i cant stand it - i hate it more than seeing bullshit ads before youtube starts

@sonicshadowxxxxx You can play it like an ordinary fps, but that's not really how it's meant to be played. Oh, and don't go into this game thinking it's an fps. Open your mind and you will be immersed in the amazing world that is Fallout. This game and Bioshock got me back into gaming. Great story telling and great atmospheres. Give it some time and you won't be dissapointed.

@JoshLuke864 If you have been to the location previously, you can "fast travel" to it's location. If you have been to an location near the objective, you fast travel to there and walk to you objective.

@97BEHEMOTH You can adjust the in game difficulty (you can set it to VERY Easy if you would like). The game is worth the twenty bucks you can buy it for now. THe game of the year addition is far better though. THe additional five areas make this game phenomonal.

@DoomShroomer There's a patch out already, but some people are saying it didn't d anything, so say it made it worse, some say it helped. I'm going to get Fallout 3, as it's cheap, and I'll see if I'm patient enough to handle all the bugs in the Fallout series.

Fallout is a whole different Genre and cannot be put into the mix. It may be a shooter, but its mainly an RPG. I could play Fallout 3 for weeks without getting bored, where I play an hour of shooter and get bored. So go back to fifth grade, and leave us gamers to game.
