  • you should do a video on how do you get a job after you get your Class A CDL, I'm struggling on getting a job right now, Arizona Sucks life sucks. I guess only the Rich people can work.

  • this vid helped me graduate. thanks verne:D

  • a penny is 2/32, a quarter is 4/32

  • i have always wanted to be a truck driver..... my dad is a trucker and he already taught be how to drive.......... since i grew up in a "trucker environment" i have learned to appreciate and respect truckers..... i kinda wanna be a trucker but my parents want be to go to school....... is trucking still a good career to be? what do u guys think?

  • @zeledonheri Same here my dad's a truck driver 36 years and always takes my to his work and i drove his 780 by myself, except for he was shifting.he truck drived since 16 years old in Russia and still is, and i tell him that i want to be a truck driver, but he says it's a killer job and says get a proper job.I say why'd you pick it he says he had no other choice.I STILL WANT TO BE A TRUCK DRIVER THOUGH!!!

  • any one know if this is different than rhode island?

  • What are three reasons to inspect the battery on a Class 1 vehicle?

  • if the part is metal and bolted, remember no nuts and bolts missing, alternator Properly Mounted and Secured. if it is a rubber line, like a brake hose or radiator hose, it is CDL. Not Cracked Damaged or Leaking.

there are the 2 acronyms. CDL and PMS.

  • I go for my CDL on the 16th, this pre test inspection is excellent. He is doing a great job, I have been watching this video over and over again.

  • got my class a in california through company sponsored otr company. this man is giving a good pre trip run down pay attention rookies ya dont even drive test till this is passed and air brake "cola" is passed been a driver 3 years now i tell ya what they aint makin it easy on drivers anymore learn that log book man learn that log book ya be working for free if ya dont. them fines aint cheap.

  • the only thing I had to do was the air brake check sequence before the driving part of the test, the pre-trip was all computerized and had to answer the questions and didn't have to do a physical pre-trip.

  • P.M.S......Properly Mounted and Secured

C.D.L..... not Cracked, not Damaged, not Loose, or Leaking

  • I like the acronyms. That is a good way to remember it.

  • all the jobs went to mexican drivers making $8hr

  • you don't have a job because you are a loser. plain an simple.

  • " not so smart " .....that's obvious.

That name fits you perfect ...I bet you didn't have to figure that out huh? Dumbsht!

  • @ColBuzby ... truckers gets payd per MILES not per hour

  • On md its like va not cracked bent or broken blah blah i blew through my pre trip so well i only had to all the steer axle and tell what was different on the rest but i got screwed on the clutch they adjusted the day before so i blew a couple shifts but still passed

  • here in va we have to say its not bent cracked or broken on all solid pieces this is the hardest part of the test once you have passed this the rest is fun i passed all three parts the first go round i was shocked and relieved now i gotta find a job

  • I remember taking mine, God I was nervous.

I made the pretrip OK but my nerves got the best of me on the test and I blew some shifts.

At least I didn't have to do the pretrip again.

I had to go back a few years later and get my industrial air ticket for the big off highway log and dump trucks.

  • if you miss a few shifts you fail the test wow

  • Up here they really want you fail the first time especially with young drivers.

    It's a money grab.

They'll make you drive by an unmarked park for instance, than dock you for driving by it too fast.

I've personally met 3 young people this happened to.

I even told THEM where they got screwed, and I was right.

  • Hey man that happened to me and my co-worker im 18 and hes like 24 we both did perfect the first time and we failed but the 2nd time they said we were 100%

  • that is cool

  • Pretrips need to be the same in all states, currently they are not. Verne's video is good, but in many states this pretrip would fail!

  • good info...i'm still studying for my license right now, any little upper hand will help!

  • guys if you cant memorize the pretrip you will never get your CDL. imo, this is the hardest part of learning to drive a truck. you better do it when you drive or you will be one of those bozos that we read about in the papers who killed someone cuz of a mechanical failure and if you should have been aware during your inspection you can be held liable. some of the checks like 3 step brake test is an auto fail if not performed right..

  • Lol them poor guys... how are they supposed to remember all that??!! rofl

  • iam going to be a futre trucker. I am 13

  • "you might pick up a 4x4 or a rock or something" :D

  • Damn....this is what mechanics are for. We pay them to do all this shit. I understand that you want common knowledge, but seriously....You're not going to scrutinize the entire truck top to bottom side to side before every drive. It's just like you wouldn't check your car over before you go to school or whatever.

  • You have to know it for CDL test

  • Is that what you would tell the judge after your truck kills a family on te road, because you didnt pretrip. Something goes wrong, if you drive it you are responsible. I check my KW and trailer every load every time. someones life depends on it.. it may be yours

  • KSE828, This is called the "pre trip inspection." It's required by federal law as an OPERATOR level activity. If you miss any of these items on the road, at a weigh station or random roadside inspection, you get a paper present from Jonny Law.

  • What driver honestly checks all of this every time before they drive?

  • Thats like saying who honestly pulls into the correct lane when turning at an intersection.

Theirs the anal way, then there's the nonchalant average way that's still minorly acceptable.

As an instructor its required to check every bell and whistle when teaching.

  • I do!

  • @Kulawendin a dedicated professional

  • The Federal-Aid Highway Act Amendments of 1974 established the bridge formula as law, along with the gross weight limit of 80,000 pounds (36,000 kg), still in use as of 2009

    wow 1 inch

THERE IS NO, YES NO HIGHT LIMIT IN THE UK TRAILERS GO UP TO 16"5'

  • UTTER RUBBISH get your facts right

    US 102 inches wide max,13" 5' high max.80000 lbs GVW (36 300 kgs),600 hp max

UK 102 inches wide max, NO hight limit though makers don't usualy make them over 16" , 97000lbs GVW (44 000 kgs) 700 hp max (volvo FH16)

sweden and finland GVW 60 tonnes (130,000 lb)

"There's a reason why Volvo North America makes trucks that look next to nothing like the Euro versions" WHAT IS THE REASON THEN???

Australia has the longest and heaviest trucks in the world

  • ..80000lbs is only for a tandem in the u.s.....with a quad is over 100000lbs...and all trucks in the uk have a height limit because of all the low bridges there....and in the states its 13"6 not 13"5"....theres trucks that carry higher loads than that but they take alternate routes that dont have bridges on them....thats why you dont see them on the main interstates...also theres trucks now that can pull 2 53foot trailers at the same time in certain states and in canada...

  • Australia has longer trucks becuase they are only driving through the desert on a straight boring road for hundreds of miles....when they are in cities theres a limit on the length just like in every country....

  • UK snob, the numbers you are naming are under the category, "Standard without permit." meaning to exceed them, a one time permit is required. Height is actually 13' 6" and there is not a horsepower limit, the catch is some insurance companies will not cheaply insure above 600.

"Australia has..." With some exceptions - the "Texas double" or triple, very limited use, requiring a special license endorsement. Any truck under permit or military exemption can easily exceed weight and size limits.

  • personally speaking i would like the best equipment that modern technology can supply not just the cheapest as with american crap

  • Problem is is that you don't really get European lorries in the USA. MAN, M-B, all are virtually unavailable here. Sure you get Volvo, but there's not much to distinguish them from Kenworth, Peterbilt, etc. The dairy I work for in the summer uses CLAAS, FENDT, and other German implements, but no one has Euro-lorries.

  • Euro trucks do not have the size and strength to handle North American needs. Fully loaded standard trucks are 80 ton here, not 40 like Europe. And the trucks are quite a bit wider as well. There's a reason why Volvo North America makes trucks that look next to nothing like the Euro versions.

Problem with the semi-rigs overhere is that noone gives a crap about maintaining them properly, the roads are shitty and dangerous, and most cars on the road have incompetent drivers...

  • because with disks it reduces stopping distances is safer has less heat build up and reduces down time due to less maintenance and yes i do drive big lorries so i do know what i'm talking about and yes you can tell the difference between drum and disk brakes

  • Well, then you should know that very strong foundation brakes are not tremendously important on a tractor trailer combo.. Trans brakes and engine retarders used in conjuction with foundation, these trucks have no problems stopping; drums and all. Disc's are superior, just not as so in this application.

  • why is everything measured in x/32? 4/32 = 1/8 and 2/32 = 1/16. Why not just say 1/8" or 1/16"?

  • Thanks vern ,You helped me pass my new york state CDL class A road test with your informative video. Thank you so much.

  • STILL using drum brakes join the 21 century for fucks sake

  • It's a big truck not a car they have drum air brakes

  • 21st century European big lorries and trailers gvw 44,000 kg have disk brakes abs ebs tc esbs

  • yanksareshitheads if it were not for the "yanks" you would not be here and people in Europe would be speaking German, shithead

  • Comment removed

  • damn alot of shit to check lol

  • My pre trip has to be done in under 10 minutes that includes the in cab also. Out of breath getting have way down the trailer....

  • Runts! Hurricane, tornado, tsunami, earthquake--I don't care what else is happening around you! This truck is your number one prioity. You will perform 187 checks before your day begins and again before your day ends! If you FAAAIL to perform these checks in the order I have just shown you then your pathetic existence will end in the cross-hairs of a sniper riffle--DOOO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR?

    YES DRILL SEARGENT!!!

(geez--and the only guy taking notes was the guy with the video camera! lol)

  • It's called "a sense of humor' dumbass. Obviously you don't have one.

  • This video helped me out alot, I just picked up my cdl and I did not go to school and I only started driving two months ago, but this video really helped me so thank you!

  • How can you check your hub level with caps on

  • Exactly. All bullshit obvious shit. Like check your tires aren't flat, check your truck isn't blown up.

  • true haha

Reading through the CDL training manuel and watching this video just brought everthing together for me. Thanks again. Please put out some more training video.

  • front suspension, front wheel, brake, cab area, saddle tank area, coupling system, read tractor wheel, suspension, brakes, rear of tractor, side of trailer, trailer weels, suspension, brakes, signal, brake and clearance lights, LEFT FRONT SIDE...FRONT.RIGHT SIDE.. check all items as done on left front md cdl...ONLY ONE SIDE THE TRACTOR TRAILER IT YOU FIND ANYTHING UNSAFE DURING THE PRE-TRIP INSPECTION,GET IF FIXED. FEDERAL AND STATE LAWS FORBID OPERATING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE...

  • Very informative, Im sure my California CDL is a little different, But still nonetheless very informative and very helpful.

How different is it? I will be taking my CDL Class A Test in a few weeks.

Any tips and advice would be most appreciated!! thanks

  • would this be similar to oregon

  • Does anyone out there know if the rules are different for Oregon as opposed to Kansas

  • @dylanwinter1 "Federal" is a pretty Simple Idea......

  • Thank you for posting this, I am taking my MI class A CDL test next month, I am going to study this religiously! Best.

  • This is a great video for me , I'm studying my Colorado manual , I'm starting school 11th of Feb. it's good to have someone doing an actual walk through ! Theory is good but I like the visual! Thanks! CJ

  • Good job, missed the batteries, battery box and cover. check your state but mine required you to tell if the air compressor was belt driven or gear driven.

  • Hey "sgmanr"!!! Where did you take your test?? I am studying the shit out of this video.

  • I took mine in ky. and I also read my book, when I combined the two together it was a great tool, it also helped me to physically see someone do the inspection instead of just reading it. To help u out as much as I can, when your doing your inspection and touching every part your inspecting, don't just say "this looks good" tell him what you are checking for, leaks, cracks, breaks, belt play, missing parts, etc. He wants to see that you know what to check for. Good Luck!!

  • I WNT to see the 15min pretrip

  • This video enabled me to pass my test with no trouble at all, it's a great learning tool for those of us who can't afford to go school, but still want our licenses. halfway through my inspection my examiner told me that I had obviously studied and there was no need to go any further, I went on to take my road test and passed also, I want to think all the guys who put this together, and especially the instuctor (Verne)he done a wonderful job, Thanks alot guys, great video.

  • you know this comment gives me feel feel really good about what I do. Thanks. Dylan

  • I wish I knew where all those things are located and what they look like.
